Work Text:
Street unlocks Chris’s apartment door at half past nine on a Saturday morning. Whatever lie he told Luca about how he was spending his weekend fades in his mind as his body settles into the space like it was made just for them. A large green blanket is draped over the back of the couch, their favorite for curling up underneath when they watch a movie. Two mugs sit by the coffee maker instead of one. A safe, perfect bubble without any tension or hurt.
The only thing he can’t seem to find is her.
“Chris?” He calls softly, toeing off his boots and hanging up his jacket. He finds the balcony in his periphery but she’s not there, nor does he hear water running to signal she’s in the shower. With a frown, he steps deeper into the apartment and tries again. “Chris?”
“In here,” she responds, voice floating through the bedroom door. He can’t stop his lips from turning up into a wide smile and he gently pushes the door open to his most peaceful place.
“Hey,” he starts and takes her in. She’s still underneath the covers, one arm underneath her pillow and the other at her chest, and she’s looking at him with warm, tired eyes. “Are you okay? Do you feel sick?”
A soft laugh escapes and then she shakes her head and rubs small circles on the comforter.
“I’m good. Today’s just one of those stay in bed and cuddle days.”
Understanding blooms in his chest and he wastes no time in shedding his jeans and lifting up the blanket to slide underneath. Another laugh falls from Chris as she turns on her other side so he can spoon her, and her cheeks go pink with happiness as they slot together like puzzle pieces. Something like magic dances on his veins as he takes a deep breath of her shampoo and listens to her exhale.
“Comfy?” He whispers, squeezing her tighter.
“Mmhmm,” she hums.
“Did you cancel our lunch reservation?”
“Mmhmm.”
His lips meet the crown of her head.
“Good. The rest of the world can wait.”
