Shauna would rather be literally anywhere else right now, specifically with her girlfriend, in her bed, cuddling, but she would take anything else that wasn’t a lecture from Jackie. specifically the one they were having. Shauna knows Jackie doesn’t know about her and Melissa, or that she even likes girls, but why did Jackie want Shauna to go on a date with Randy Walsh so bad!
“Cmon Shipman! Just think about it? We could go on a double date!You guys and me and Jeff!” Ah yes Jackie’s boyfriend Jeff who was in a more romantic relationship with Randy than anyone else!
“I’ll sleep on it Jax, I’ve gotta go, see you tomorrow” She said before turning on her feet and walking to the doors, not sparing a glance back to Jackie, she knows she won’t be sleeping on the double date idea, she will most likely be sleeping on her gorgeous girlfriends chest, which speak of the gorgeous devil, Melissa was standing at her car waiting for Shauna, she was picking at her nails when she looked up and smiled
“I told you to stop doing that” Shauna said rounding the car and getting into the passenger side
“Well-“ Melissa started
“-i was waiting for you and got bored” Melissa finished after getting into the drivers seat and starting the car
“What? was I supposed to stare into space for ten minutes?” She said driving out of the parking lot, making her way towards Melissa’s house
“One, Yes. Two, I’m sorry Jackie was rambling on about Jeff and wanting to go on a double date with them and Randy” Shauna saw Melissa tense up beside her, Melissa’s grip on the steering wheel got tighter, Shauna moved and grabbed the hand closest to her and intertwined them together
“I said no” she then saw Melissa lip turn into a smile, but then into a frown
“You can go if it makes Jackie happy, I already know if you go you’ll come back and say something along the lines of ‘Randy fucking Walsh more like…Randy fuckings…..stupid-alsh’ and then we will kiss and live happily ever after!”Melissa finished her very bad impression of Shauna, Shauna was laughing before she rolled her eyes
“Ha ha very funny, first I don’t even sound like that and second I would never make a corny joke like that”
“No Baby, you would say something even more corny and silly” Melissa said turning down Melissa’s street, Shauna sighed
“Besides I wouldn’t say yes because I wouldn’t want to go on a date with anyone else but you!” Shauna spoke as Melissa parked, they unbuckled their seatbelts and got out walking up to Melissa’s house
“Mom i’m home!”
“Hi girls” Melissa’s mom Paula said without even sparing a glance towards them
Shauna and Melissa agreed to telling their parents about them dating, it had been a long and painfully awkward journey but lucky for them, both of their parents accepted them and the relationship, they had told them a little after their five months
“Mel” Shauna whispered against Melissa’s chest one night right before Melissa was about to fall asleep, Shauna’s parents were out of town, so they took the opportunity to having some alone time
“Hm” she hummed her hand playing with Shauna’s hair
“ what do you think about us telling our parents” Melissa opened her eyes quick
“what?”
“I just….I just don’t want to keep this a secret from them, and they are gonna find out at some point” Shauna said lifting her head up to look at Melissa
“And how do you know that?” Melissa wasn’t against the idea, hell she even wanted to, but she didn’t want to have Shauna jump on a boat she wasn’t ready to board
“Well hypothetically if my parents were to walk in right now and see us cuddling what would you say” Melissa smirked
“You are choking and i’m doing the Heimlich!” Melissa laughed as Shauna hit her shoulder
“You’re a doofus. Seriously What do you think?” Melissa thought for a second
“I say we get our telling on!”
Shauna rolled her eyes and laid her head down on Melissa’s chest
“You’re corny”
“And you’re cute”
They both took a seat at the kitchens island, where Melissa’s mom was cooking, Melissa’s brothers being at baseball practice, but they should be here soon
“Are you girls staying in tonight?”
“I think Lottie or one of the other girls are throwing a party?” Melissa said grabbing a chip and taking a bite
“You know to celebrate us going to nationals and shit” She finished with her mouth full, making Shauna giggle, just slightly
“And how do you know I’m up for you going to that?” Paula said giving Melissa a challenging look, Shauna loved their little dynamic
“Oh right sorry, Mother can I please take a trip down to a dear teammates house to have some fun-“ Melissa looks at Shauna
“-But not too much fun!” They finished together, Paula rolled her eyes, as Melissa made her way to the fridge
“Will there be alcohol at this party?”
“When is there not?” Melissa said lifting her self up so that she’s sitting on the island, place down two water bottles for her and Shauna
“I will drink responsibly mother, please it’s at least you know, worth celebrating!”
“Fine you can go, but not too much. Please be safe and Shauna don’t let her have too much, i’ll tell it to Brady and Max as well but we both know they won’t listen to that either-“ and as if it is on cue, Brady and Max, Melissa’s older brothers walk in
“What are we talking about?” Brady said grabbing Melissa’s water from her hands and taking a sip while Melissa gasps loudly
“Ew Mom!”
“Whatever” Brady says rolling his eyes
“We’re talking about the party-“ Melissa started snatching the water bottle back from Brady
“Party?” Maxes head pops up from the pantry
“Yes, one of their teammates are throwing a party because they are going to nationals, and I was saying how I would ask you guys to make sure Mel doesn’t drink to much but you guys would probably need to be told the same thing” Paula finished
“Don’t worry Mama bear I can keep your daughter in-check!” Max said slinging an arm around Melissa, who quickly shoved it off
“So is that a yes?”
“Yes”
Melissa smiled and got up to hug her mom, before grabbing Shauna’s hand and leading her upstairs to her room
“I don’t have anything to wear tonight Mel” Shauna said sitting on Melissa’s bed as Melissa closed the door
“You’ve left enough clothes here this is practically your closet” hearing that made Shauna blush, and then Melissa pulled out shorts and a cropped tight jersey that Shauna had left at Melissa’s house a few weeks ago
“How about this?” And it was pretty decent Shauna would say, She loves Melissa but her fashion could be a little…odd sometimes
“We can match!” Melissa said going back into the closet and pulling a baggier pair of shorts and a baggy football jersey, she then pulled off her shirt and pulled the Jersey on, Shauna didn’t even flinch, they were so used to just living this little life that was theirs that taking off their shirts didn’t even freak each other out, but it didn’t go unknown to Melissa when she saw the blush forming on Shauna’s face,but could you blame her? Melissa had been at the gym a lot more and her body was unbelievable
“Like what you see?” Melissa said before slipping on the jersey, pulling her sweats off and replacing them with the baggy shorts
“Yes very much I do” Shauna said pulling Melissa into a kiss after she was done changing, and then it was Melissa’s turn to blush as Shauna did the same action Mel did, pulling her shirt off, putting the cropped jersey on, pulling her jeans off and pulling on the tight shorts
Melissa went into for another kiss, before it could get too heated, Shauna pulled back making Melissa whine
“Shauna!”
“We have a party to get to? Unless you would like to-“
“No let’s go get our party on!”
They had called Tai to come pick the pair up. Van figured the two of them out about a month into their relationship, with that Van and Tai had shared their relationship with the pair, them all becoming more close. Natalie didn’t figure them out but had caught the two share a kiss in the locker room one day and after a lot of threatening and pleading, Shauna and Natalie settled it by Natalie not telling anyone about them while Shauna wouldn’t tell anyone about Natalie’s crush on Lottie (which had been used as a threat more then once)
“Okay Tai and Van are here! Bye mom!” Melissa shouted her hand in Shauna’s
“Wait! Please Be safe! and home before 12 please not too much to drink you have to be up early! Both of you!” Paula said switching her eyes between the pair, making Shauna blush
“Stop terrorizing my girlfriend, we will be safe and careful!” Melissa said before opening the door for Shauna and walking out behind her
“Finally” Van says as Shauna Melissa slip into the car
“we've been here forever!” She finishes as Tai starts the car and drives away
“Yeah yeah whatever”
Van glances back and sees their matching outfits
“Hey tai look their matching! look!”
Tai glances at the two through the mirror and smirks at the outfits and the hands interlocked
“Don’t you think that’s a bit obvious?”
Shauna and Melissa spoke at the same time
“No?” Melissa spoke
“So what?” Shauna spoke, making Melissa turn her head facing Shauna but Shauna but Shauna waved it off by continuing to speak
“What are they gonna do? burn us? plus people know me and Mel are friends Tai!”
“I’m not scared of the people doing something i’m scared that miss goldilocks boyfriend and his friends will find out, you know how they can be ”
“I think she means Jeff and Randy”
“Yes Van I got that, and why would you be scared of them finding out Tai?” Shauna asked as Tai pulled onto the outside lot
“Look you didn’t hear this from me but Jackie told me that Jeff and Randy have been talking” Melissa felt Shauna’s hand tighten around hers
“Saying what exactly”
“I guess she heard them say how Melissa is…”
“Melissa is what Tai?” Shauna said frustrated
“how Melissa is going around and turning everyone on the team gay and you’re next.” Silence, Van for once didn’t have anything to say
after a second Melissa unwinded their hands and unbuckled her seat belt
“No need for a stupid comment to ruin our night! We’re going to nationals in the morning! C'mon let’s just go have some fun”
Shauna forced a smiled as the rest followed Melissa out, they all walked towards the party but Melissa stood next to Van as Shauna and Tai walked behind them talking about some AP class they were taking together
“We’re gonna go grab drinks” Van said with Melissa following behind to the keg
“You're quiet” Van said as soon as they were away from Shauna and Tai
“No you're just talkative” Melissa joked
“Hmm and here I was trying to be nice, shame. Seriously, what's up?”
“Last week after everyone had left practice I was walking out to my car, usually I take Shauna home which is why we're always the last ones, that day after waiting and waiting for her, I went back inside the locker room and on my locker a note that said ‘don’t wait up for me dyke’ and next to the very original comment was Shauna's name signed. obviously it wasn't her handwriting, I know because it was always curvy in the notes she slipped into my locker” Melissa saw Vans smile as they both got a cup of beer
“But then I remembered that Jackie loves writing notes on everyone's lockers before games, and I also know Robin never erases hers and no one ever does it for her because of that one time when the janitor did on accident and then she cried”
“Yeah why does she do that?”
“Cry?”
“Yeah”
it was quiet for a beat as Van raised an eyebrow
“I don't actually know….” Melissa spoke before shaking her head and continuing her story
“Anyway, I went over to Robins locker and compared the hand writing and boom it was the same!” Melissa said slapping her free hand on her jeans as they leaned against a tree
“Man what an evil bitch” Van said shaking her head as they stared at Jackie laughing hard at a joke before Van turned to look at Melissa
“Did you tell Shauna?”
“I was going to, the day after when I came to pick her up for school, but then she said she had bought us matching bracelets-” Melissa lifted her arm to show the bracelet that had printing that said ‘3-19-94’ on one side and ‘M+S’ on the other
“Who knew Shauna Shipman was in love” Van spoke with a hit to her shoulder by Melissa
“She said that Jackie forced her to the mall with her, and was sorry she didn’t tell me, so I let it go” Melissa said sipping her beer
“She loves you by the way”
“Jackie?” Melissa said with a smirk
“No dumbass, Shauna. This is the first time I've seen her… be the way she is… You know… with you” Melissa smiled at that before taking another sip of her beer, as she did she, Natalie walked over holding three joints
“Hello Natalie and Natalie's weed ” Van said grabbing one of the joints and lighting it
“No smoke here” Natalie said grabbing Vans and Melissa's hands and pulling them to somewhere more alone
“Why couldn’t we have smoked there?” Melissa said with a frown as she grabbed one of the joints and lighting it as well
“Uh because I didn't want to?” Natalie said lighting the last one
“You know what the best part about being high is?” Melissa said leaning against the tree as she sipped on her beer, the joints all long gone, them all being high, it had to have been around half an hour they were in the spot they were
“The real world disappearing and us just existing” Van says
“Woah…” Natalie said
“That’s deep…” Melissa said as they all stared off into space
“You know what I just thought about” Natalie said
“Hmm?”
“How all three of us have a nickname with only three letters Nat Mel and Van….”
“Holy shit that’s wicked” Melissa said
Melissa let out a cough the same time the trio heard a yell from by the fire
“holy shit they’re fighting!” a random said
the trio looked at each other
Van let out a “Oh i’ve gotta see this” as they started running over to the scene
and the two people fighting on the ground?
Shauna and Randy
“Oh shit” Melissa let out as she ran over to Shauna pulling Shauna off the ground and on to her feet pushing her away as Randy stood up as well
“C'mon dude He’s not worth it”
“Mel let me go”
“He’s half your size, i’m not letting you get ran over by a fucking bulldozer, just walk away” Melissa said and saw Shauna soften, Melissa and Tai by her side they started turning. as they turned Randy’s big mouth opened
“Yeah go on, listen to the dyke. Is that the reason you won’t go on a date with me Shauns? because you’ve been dyking out with her?” , the crowd was silent and Melissa stopped in her tracks as she slowly turned at the comment that was let out of Randys mouth, Melissa walked up to Randy, up close she could see a slight hand mark forming on his cheek, he was holding his arm, probably from shauna
“Wanna say it to my face Randy?” Melissa spoke as they were face to face, the crowd staying quiet she could see from the corner of her eye, Van, Nat and Lottie standing nervously together, knowing Tai and Shauna were standing behind her
“I said-” Randy started, stepping closer to Melissa with every word
“You are a faggot. Even more properly accurate, a dyke.” Randy said up close to Melissa, and scoffed laughing, looking around at the crowd
“You’re so funny Randy! You’re just so-” Melissa said before cutting it off with a fast punch to his face
“You’re just so funny, randy!” As she finished the sentence one of Randy’s teammates came in front of her punching her in the face, she stumbled back with the weed and alcohol hitting her all at once
“Stay away from him dyke!” Tom, a kid she knew from elementary said
Melissa straightened up and came towards Tom before she could act another one of the guys punched her again, in the face and then in the stomach, making her tumble onto the ground
“MEL” Shauna yelled, but Tai held her back
“What? can't you defend yourself lesbian bitch?” sounding like Matt, a guy she used to be close with before coming out. leaning down Matt was punching her again in the face, and again and-
She suddenly had a burst of energy, feeling her face swelling up in real time she knees Matt in the stomach, making him clutch it stumbling back, Melissa took the time to stand on her feet, feeling her head ache as soon as she did
“Oh you’re gonna pay for that bit-” He was cut off by Brady punching him in the face, gasps heard around the circle Melissa’s mouth hung open, Matt look over at him and eyes turned wide
“Stay away from my fucking sister asshole!” Brady said, from the corner of Melissa eye she could see another one of those idiots storming towards Brady before anyone could act, Max was there punching the guy, making him stumble back onto the ground
And then silence, all three of the siblings stood there in the circle, then Tai came in the middle
“Okay shows over freaks, you can go back to getting high and shit” Tai spoke
As everyone walked away from the scene, Melissa stood there watching the baseball guys glare at the three as they all walked away
“Holy shit Mel, your face” Max said coming up to touch the already forming black eye, the lip cut, the bloody nose and a few other bruised places on her face, including small little cuts, she then lifted her knuckles and saw those bleed too
“fuck” she whispered
“Those guys are absolute assholes” Brady said as he glanced at his watch 11:30
“Moms gonna freak and-” his voice cut out when a hand grabbed Melissa, she glanced over and saw Shauna, The rest of them behind with worried faces
“Not to interfere with this I just need to talk to Melissa, I think we were just about to head out and-”
“No it’s alright, You guys can take care of her until yall get home?” Max says putting his hand on Brady’s shoulder
“Yeah no of course, we will see you there” Shauna said, pulling Melissa’s good hand away towards Tais car, the rest next to her, they walked in silence, even when Melissa glanced at Shauna and didn’t see any expression
“Callahan!” Melissa heard from behind her, She heard an annoyed sigh from Van and an even more annoyed huff from Shauna as the six of them all turned, and there was Jackie calling out with her little captain voice, Melissa looked at Van seeing an expression of Anger
“What was that?” Jackie said to the girl, but then glanced at Shauna and Melissa’s hands that were intertwined
“Shauna!” Jackie said through gritted teeth, in a low whisper, Melissa looked at Shauna as Shauna dropped Melissa’s hand
“They were being dicks to Melissa” Van spoke up
“So that means risk nationals for us?”
“You don’t get it Jax I mean they say shit like this all the time but-”
“No buts! We can’t risk our chance of nationals. I'm sorry that happened to you Melissa really but-”
“Bullcrap” Melissa heard from beside her, it was Van
“Excuse me?”
“I said that it's bullcrap that you are sorry and we both know that” Van said stepping towards Jackie
“Van.” Melissa whispered, then it was quiet
“Lets just go, cmon Van” Melissa said, as the rest started to walk away, Van stood their for a few more seconds staring at Jackie before rolling her eyes and walking away with the rest of them
“You gonna be okay Melissa?” Lottie asked as Melissa starts to get into Tais car
“Yeah just a few scars, and black eyes are hot” Melissa said with a shrug
“Apparently not on Randy” Natalie said pointing at him, where the black eye had been forming with an ice pack held by Jeff, the group giggled
“Is anything he does hot?” Shauna said with an eyeroll crossing to the other side of the car and getting in
“Have fun with that one..” Natalie said as Lottie shot her a amused glance
“I think you need to wish me good luck and pray for me because if not I may die from a night of scolding and pain…” Melissa said
They exchanged their goodbyes and then Melissa closed the door, and without a word from anyone Taissa pulled out of the lot
“Well that was eventful” Van said
“Van” Tai said in a warning tone, their voices started to sound far as Melissa looked at Shauna
“You can’t actually be mad” Melissa said
“I’m not” Shauna said staring out the window, there was another beat of silence before Shauna looked over, grabbing Melissa’s hand and staring back out the window, luckily it was the hand that wasn’t damaged
After a very awkward drive Tai got to Melissa’s house, once in front, Shauna let go of Melissa’s hand, and climbed out of the car
“You okay Mel?” Van asked
“Physically, I will, Emotionally, call me in an hour and we will see if i’m a single woman”
“Shauna loves you too much to break up with you. you know that right?” Tai said turning around and looking at Melissa
Melissa glanced at Shauna who was standing on Melissa’s porch
“I guess we’ll find out” Melissa said before climbing out of the car and going towards Shauna
it was gonna be a long night.
