Work Text:

"This one is great."

Adolf tapped his finger on a black and white photograph of a radiant Joseph, beaming with his arms overflowing with flowers. "Definitely matrimonial", he added with a fond smile.

Chuckling, Joseph took the picture and placed it onto the ever-growing 'yes' pile which was surrounded by pale blue and yellow invitations, boutonnieres and myriad other wedding paraphernalia. "God, I remember that day".

"So do I", Adolf agreed, his smile growing, "the crowd had been handing me flowers and wreaths left, right and centre all day, but as soon as I saw this beautiful bouquet, I just had to give it to you!"

"You're such an old romantic- and in front of everyone! I couldn't begin to hide how happy I was!"

Laughing along with Joseph, The Fuehrer picked the photo back up, holding it tenderly in his hands, "Even back then I knew."

Bashfully, Joseph returned to sorting, reminiscing about those early days of stolen glances and secret smiles.

"Oh ho! Now this is a handsome boy!" Exclaimed Joseph as he pulled out a large class photo. Arrogantly pouting in the middle of the back row, the young Hitler stood out a mile. "You look like you're about to deliver a speech! How old were you there?

Adolf glanced at the photo, "I don't know, maybe eight or nine."

"So serious." Joseph added, turning the photo over.

"Had to be." Came Adolf's quiet reply. A stinging reminder of an abusive childhood spent protecting his mother and sister that left no time for merriment.

Joseph took his hand, "I'm sorry; should we get rid of it?"

"That's quite alright," Adolf smiled, "those awful memories began to fade the day I met you."

Joseph leaned into him. "I promise to give you so many moments of happiness that one day soon you wont be able to recall any sorrow."

Adolf responded by retrieving the first photo of Joseph with his flowers, adoringly kissing his fiancé's cheek, "We should recreate this bouquet for our wedding."
