Chapter Text
She finally arrived.
She met Chimney and Hen first.
They said something about they successfully controlled the bleeding, that it was a race against the time stuff and.. and now they were preparing to cut the.. the--
She never really listened. Her attention was completely on the man who was struggling to keep his eyes open.
The man.
Her man.
...
"Hey," he greeted her first.
Smiling, "Hey baby." her hand gently caressed his ashen white face.
His pale lips smiled back at her.
She knew he was in a lot of pain.
She knew he was having a hard time breathing.
She knew the.. the thing that struck his middle punctured his lung because she could see blood trickling at the corner of his lips.
The thing.
The rusty metal rod thing.
Rebar.
It looked terrifying.
"You're gonna be okay, baby."
His tired glassy eyes kept looking at her. "I am now." he said, before his cold hand held hers, tightly.
He was scared.
She knew that.
But he was so brave.
She knew that too.
...
After five days, and two major surgeries, he finally woke up. But just for a little while.
He was still in pain.
He was still exhausted.
But everyone was glad.
Especially her.
...
Sleepy glassy eyes slightly opened.
"Hey baby." whispered her, patiently waiting for him to focus his eyes on her.
The doctor already told her about his condition, that he was fine, that there were no lingering effect in the future. That if everything went according to plan, then there was nothing to be worry about.
But now his body needed rest.
After that traumatic event.
Smiled, he locked his eyes on her, before a small yawn escaped from his mouth.
"Go back to sleep, baby." she said, slightly chuckled seeing the way his weak body fighting to stay awake.
Watery eyes fluttered. "Promise you'll stay?" slurred him.
Smiled, she shook her head.
This man of hers, despite being a captain to his team, despite being a muscle tough man that without second thought would help anyone in need; he was like a different man with her. He was still a tough guy, yet he was so gentle with her. He was still a strong man, yet he needed hugs every now and then.
She didn't mind that.
After all, he was her baby.
And she was his.
"There's nowhere I'd rather be than here with you."
Her assurance.
Made the sleepy man smiled broadly, and heavy eyes easily closed shut.
"I've got you." whispered her, holding his hand firmly in hers.
