Chilly winds permeated throughout the air in the grassy Eastern Kalos plains, leaves and petals surfing the breeze. Our heroes were currently on their way towards Anistar City for Ash’s seventh Gym Badge, as well as Serena’s second Princess Key. After traveling for a while, the gang decided to stop in a beautiful clearing to have some lunch.
The humans were all sitting together on a table enjoying some of Clemont’s delicious stew while the Pokemon were all on the ground either eating their pellets or just hanging out, talking or playing with each other. Hawlucha and Talonflame were teaching Noibat how to fly more efficiently, Bunnelby and Eevee were enjoying some small talk, while Frogadier and Braixen relaxed together under the shade of a large tree.
Pancham was busy minding his own business while chowing down on his Pokemon food, savoring the taste, before Chespin came marching up to him with angry steps. "Hey, four eyes!" He said to get his attention.
Pancham merely glanced at him from the side, clearly not amused in anything the hedgehog Pokemon wanted to do. "Oh, it's you. What do you want?" He continued to eat his Pokemon food.
"I want to settle the score between you and I!" Chespin yelled at the panda while pointing his arm at him. Pancham raised an eyebrow, not knowing what he was talking about.
"What do you mean 'settle the score'?" He asked as he popped another pellet into his mouth. This served only to enrage Chespin, as he began to stomp his foot in frustration.
"YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! LAST WEEK, WHEN YOU BEAT ME IN OUR BATTLE!"
Pancham closed his eyes and tried to jog his memory of the event. He snapped his fingers as he now finally remembered. "Oh, yeah! Hehe, that was funny, seeing you defeated on the floor like that." He chuckled out with a smile.
Chespin angrily glared at him in response. "Don't you rub it in! You may have defeated me then, but I'm here to get revenge! Battle me!" He issued the challenge to Pancham, but it seemed he had no interest in partaking with Chespin's demand.
"Hmm… nah, I'm not really in the mood. Besides, what's in it for me? Other than proving once again that I'm superior to you, which everyone here already knows." Pancham shrugged with a laugh.
"Ah, you see, I got something I'd like to wager with this." The mention of a wager piqued Pancham's curiosity and he raised his eyebrow at him while Chespin continued. "The winner of this battle here, will have to give the other Pokemon their dessert that Serena gives us, for a whole month!"
Pancham's eyes opened at Chespin's proposal. Everyone knows how much of a glutton Chespin is, so it was surprising to see him put the prospect of having dessert on the line just to one up Pancham. He crossed his arms and sat in thought for a few seconds before answering. "I could have extra dessert for a month? Well, now you got me interested!" He stood up to meet Chespin face to face. "You're on then!"
Chespin stared back with equal fire in his eyes. He turned around to where Frogadier was sitting under a tree with Braixen and yelled out to him. "Hey! Frogadier!"
Frogadier opened his eyes and upon seeing Chespin motioning him over, he groaned and rolled his eyes, getting up to stretch. “Well, duty calls, once again…” He reached over to grab Braixen’s paw and pulled her up to her feet.
“Not another one of their pointless squabbles…” She sighed out while shaking her head, following Frogadier. Chespin and Pancham had moved over to a clear plot of land nearby to have their battle. Some of their fellow Pokemon had noticed that the two childish Pokemon were ready to battle each other again and had decided to spectate.
Hawlucha and Talonflame, who were teaching Noibat to fly, had decided to take a break and watch what was sure to be an amusing battle. “Well, this is sure to be interesting.” Talonflame commented as she sat beside Noibat, with Hawlucha sitting on his other side. Frogadier walked into position between Chespin and Pancham as they stood across from each other.
Pancham had a look of confidence on his face while Chespin looked fierce and determined. "Hey, how's it feel to not have any dessert for a month?!" Pancham yelled out mockingly towards his opponent.
This served only to enrage Chespin. "GRRR! I'll make you eat those words!" Now he had to defeat Pancham to put him in his place.
Frogadier raised his arm up in the air in order to officially begin this match. "This will be a 1-on-1 battle between Chespin and Pancham! The first Pokemon to knock the other out will be the winner! Battle, begin!" Frogadier brought his hand down, officially signaling the start of the battle.
"Get a load of this! Pin Missile!" Chespin's quills glowed a bright yellowish-green color before firing off sharp projectiles with long trails, aiming for Pancham. Pancham braced himself and dodged out of the way of the Pin Missiles. While Pancham wasn't much of a battler, his skills and experience in Performances gave him an unique advantage, being able to dance and weave his way out of danger. "Stop moving around so much!" Chespin was clearly getting annoyed from Pancham's quick movements.
Chespin had to stop and catch his breath from the rapid fire Pin Missile, giving Pancham an opening to attack back. "Stone Edge!" Pancham slammed his paws on the ground, summoning glowing pillars of stone that headed towards Chespin. This caught the hedgehog Pokemon off-guard and he was hit by one of the rising stones, being flown back quite a bit.
"Ouch, that had to hurt." Bunnelby commented as he watched alongside Eevee. At this point, more of their companions had come to watch their battle from the sidelines.
Chespin recovered from the attack and rose back to his feet. "Vine Whip!" Two long vines emerged from Chespin's back and reached towards Pancham. They wrapped around his torso and he was lifted up into the air, before being slammed hard into the ground. Pancham was taking some major damage, being slammed over and over and had to escape quick.
His paws glowed brightly, signaling an Arm Thrust and he slammed them onto Chespin's vines. Chespin grimaced at the pain and after a few more Arm Thrusts, Chespin finally let go of Pancham, who landed on his feet. "Dark Pulse!" He charged an orb of dark, swirling energy in his paws before releasing it as a beam towards Chespin.
Chespin was startled by his quick recovery and had to act fast. "Pin Missile!" He once again fired the Pin Missile, aiming for the oncoming attack. The attacks collided, resulting in a large explosion that covered the field in smoke, making all the spectators cough. Pancham tried to scout out Chespin in the smoke, before Chespin suddenly charged in front of him with a Tackle attack. Unable to react, Pancham took the full brunt of the move, being knocked back.
The smoke had cleared up and the two Pokemon were in a stare down. Pancham wiped his mouth and gave a chuckle. "You got me there, but it won't happen again!" Pancham charged towards Chespin planning to unleash a barrage of Arm Thrusts.
Chespin narrowly dodged and avoided the attacks, using Tackle while Pancham was open to knock him back and give him some distance. Vines reemerged from his back and slapped Pancham across his face. Pancham gave an annoyed grunt and managed to grab the vines before they could attack again. He pulled on them and Chespin sprung forward against his will, where Pancham landed a direct hit with an Arm Thrust on his head.
"Man, they get very competitive…" Braixen commented as she watched her two companions duking it out.
Chespin laid on his back, staring up to the bright sky as Pancham stood tall over him. Pancham charged up another Dark Pulse in his paws, looking for a point-blank shot in order to finish off this match. Chespin thought quickly and swept his feet across Pancham's, causing him to lose balance and fall over, his Dark Pulse now firing off into the sky, missing its target completely.
Chespin rolled away a good distance and fired off some more Pin Missiles. Pancham saw the attack approaching swiftly and had to think of a way to escape. A figurative lightbulb went off in his head. He got up and summoned a Stone Edge and hopped on top of the pillars, each one getting progressively higher. The missiles would destroy the pillars just as Pancham jumped over to the next, causing debris to fall all over the field.
Pancham jumped off the tallest pillar he could summon and showed off his athletic abilities, performing many flips in the air before firing down a quick Dark Pulse to Chespin. The hedgehog Pokemon just narrowly avoided the move, but it merely served as a distraction, as he now lost track of his opponent. "Hey! Where'd you go?!" He tried to find where he was on the field, but couldn't figure it out in time.
"Right behind you." Panchan whispered to his ears. Chespin gasped and tried to turn around, but it was too late. Pancham already had an Arm Thrust ready and whacked Chespin across the back of his head, dealing a critical blow. Chespin's body rolled forward and laid motionless, giving a weak groan.
Frogadier inspected Chespin and made his call. "Chespin is unable to battle! This makes Pancham the winner!" Pancham took a second to catch his breath as their crowd cheered and congratulated both Pokemon for a hard fought battle.
"Wow, those little tykes can really go!" Hawlucha laughed out as he clapped in approval.
Chespin eventually recovered from being knocked out and sat up, holding his aching head. As soon as he remembered what happened, he stood up and glared over at Pancham with venom in his eyes. He stomped his foot on the ground, his anger finally boiling over. "FUCK!"
His sudden outburst caught the attention of his fellow Pokemon, shocked at his reaction. Bunnelby hopped over to his friend in order to calm him down. "Hey, Chespin. It's alright." He said softly as he rubbed his head with his large ear.
This did little to help quell the frustration Chespin was feeling. "GRAAH! I THOUGHT I HAD HIM THIS TIME! THIS WAS FINALLY GONNA BE THE TIME I SHOW HIM WHO'S BETTER AND- AHHHH!" Chespin hung his head in shame over getting one-upped by his rival yet again.
The Pokemon didn't know what to do, muttering amongst themselves over his explosive reaction. However, one of them was reacting very strangely. Hawlucha stood still, mouth agape in silent shock while holding his hands over Noibat's large ears, who seemed to not really understand what was happening.
It was now evening time, the sky coated a beautiful shade of dark orange and pink. Ash and the gang were busy setting up their campground for the night and getting their nighttime preparations underway. Serena was giving everyone some freshly baked Pokepuffs as a dessert, with Chespin crying silent tears as he had to give up his share to Pancham.
Clemont was setting up their tents while Bonnie chased Dedenne and Pikachu around the site. Ash used this time to get some training in for Noibat to further hone his flying abilities. "Just keep your wings spread apart, just like that!" He yelled out to the baby bat as he was airborne. While he had improved significantly, he still had a lot to learn before he truly mastered flying. Hawlucha and Talonflame were flying by his side to help him out.
Noibat was joyously laughing and giggling in the air. It loved flying and hoped that he could improve to impress his trainer as well as Hawlucha and Talonflame. He soared into the nearby forest and weaved in between the many trees and their branches, the birds following close behind. "Look at me! I'm doing it!" He happily sang out as he circled back around to return to the campsite.
Right as he was about to reenter the clearing, a sudden gust of wind caught him off-guard and knocked him off his balance. He ended up flying into a branch, causing him to tumble down onto the ground. Hawlucha and Talonflame gasped and flew down to him. "Sport! Are you okay?" Hawlucha asked in concern as they inspected to make sure he wasn't injured.
Noibat picked his head up and felt angry about his mess up. He remembered how Chespin reacted when he was angry earlier in the day and how he said a word he hadn't heard before. Noibat didn't think twice before deciding to use that new word. "Fuck!"
Talonflame gasped and put her wing over her beak, while Hawlucha looked shocked, appalled and devastated. His sweet little Noibat, using such a filthy word like that? His innocence has been completely ruined! He remembered how Noibat could've learned such a word however and his emotions quickly turned to fury. He looked behind him and saw Chespin conversing with Bunnelby. That little runt thinks he can just corrupt his Noibat with his foul language and get away with it?
He ran towards the two and jumped into the air, spinning and glowing with a Flying Press. "You'll pay for this!" He yelled out as the two looked up at him, wondering what was happening. Hawlucha slammed on top of Chespin and rained down some punches, with Bunnelby trying to pull him off and calm him down.
Talonflame and Noibat watched the exchange, a sweat drop going down Talonflame's head. "Did I do something wrong?" The baby bat asked as he looked at her.
She sighed out and rubbed his ears with her wing. "There are some words that many people find offensive. That f-word you said being one of them, just make sure not to say it again, alright? A kid like you shouldn't even know it, but some people can't keep their mouths shut."
Noibat smiled as Talonflame pet his ears. "Alright, I promise!" Talonflame smiled back before flying over to help Bunnelby in pulling Hawlucha off Chespin. He's already been humiliated enough today.
