Date gone wrong gone right

Summary:

The plan was simple, Zac would take Ren Wu to the café he heard about through Orochi, the two would spend time catching up over their meals and Zac would even try sneaking a kiss or two from the other if he felt it was needed.

That was obviously not what the universe thought.

Notes:

Work Text:

This was officially one the worst dates Zac has ever been on. It's actually impressive how several weeks' worth of planning got thrown out of the window today.

The plan was simple, Zac would take Ren Wu to the café he heard about through Orochi (one of their favourites, the food was apparently to die for), the two would spend time catching up over their meals and Zac would even try sneaking a kiss or two from the other if he felt it was needed. It wasn't something as spectacular as he would've liked, Zac quite enjoys telling people about their relationship and flaunting his gorgeous boyfriend in the process, but he was toning it down since it had been almost two whole months since he last saw Ren Wu. He felt they deserved a quiet date just for them to enjoy the other's company.

That was obviously not what the universe thought.

It hadn't even been ten minutes since they sat down at the café and Zac had at least eight people come up to him asking for an autograph. It was like they didn't care that the love of his life was sat across from him and that they were trying to have a moment - a romantic moment - there. He truly loved his fans, but the lack of privacy when he's trying to spend time with his boyfriend really gets under his skin.

The furrow of Zac's brow was noticed almost immediately by Ren Wu as the latter had reached his hand over the wooden table to place reassuringly on top of his own, which had somehow started gripping onto the curved edge of the table, in a way to try ease his worries.

It wasn't until they couldn't speak a sentence to each other without someone interrupting them that Ren Wu had stood up, grabbed Zac's now cold and clamy palm into his own and walked them out of the café to a nearby park. He had been ushered onto a small metal bench while Ren Wu rested his hand on Zac's shoulder, only quietly asking for him to wait on the bench for him before turning back to exit the park.

So that's what Zac was now doing, waiting for his angel sent from SB Rios to return from wherever he walked off to.

Zac shifted slightly where he was sitting so he could rest his head in his hands, which made staring at the floor much more comfortable even if his palms were still just as cold and clamy as when Ren Wu had dragged them outside to the park.

The park was actually really quiet for a Saturday afternoon, considering that the sun was actually out for once, and it wasn't freezing outside. The only people Zac could hear in the park were a couple of teenagers that sounded to be around eleven or twelve, a mother trying to calm her baby (he couldn't hear the mother but he assumed she was there otherwise there would have been people panicking over an abandoned baby), and an old man who was coughing very obnoxiously.

His train of thought was cut off when he saw the very familiar pair of navy boots standing in front of him. Zac lifted his head from his hands and stared up at Ren Wu's face, completely ignoring the item that was being offered to him. He was smiling down at him so he couldn't be that upset over leaving their date spot early (it was a little smile, but it still counted).

Zac was then snapped back to reality a second time when Ren Wu lightly shook the item that he was currently ignoring so he could stare at his boyfriend's stunning face. Reluctantly moving his gaze to what was being held towards him, he could now see that Ren Wu had a little bowl of strawberry ice cream in his outstretched hand. Zac took the bowl from his hand and mumbled an almost inaudible 'thank you' before patting the spot beside him as if he was asking Ren Wu to sit next to him.

"I went back to the café and got us ice cream." Ren Wu explained as he sat down by Zac, and if they scooted closer to the other, that wasn't anyone else's business.

The silence that came over them was comforting as they ate their ice creams. Zac tilted his head so he could watch as Ren Wu scooped some of his own mint chocolate chip ice cream from the bowl and ate it. He never saw the appeal of mint chocolate ice cream, but if his partner thought it was a good flavour (and looked so good eating it), then it couldn't be that bad.

They sat for a while after their ice creams were long finished, taking turns to share stories about the events that happened during the two months that they had been separated for. There had been a pause in their conversation, which had been decided as the perfect time for Zac to slip his hand into Ren Wu's own hand that was currently sitting in his lap, interlacing their fingers together and giving him a chaste kiss on his lips to shush any complaints. (So what if he knew Ren Wu wouldn't complain about holding hands and he was just kissing him for the sake of kissing him?)

The sun had started to set over them as they sat hand in hand in the now vacated park. They were now sat even closer together, their thighs pressed against the other. Ren Wu's head was now resting on top of Zac's shoulder as the two had gone back to sitting in that comfortable silence.

Zac changed his mind about his earlier statement. This was not the worst date he's ever been on. Sure, it wasn't exactly what he had planned, but he managed to actually catch up with Ren Wu and managed to sneak a kiss from him, too.
