His heart is racing and he wants to rip his hair out. His heart longs for the touch of his blonde friend. When they brush hands against each other while packing up the science equipment or when Tom ruffles his hair during class, making Carter's curly dirty blonde hair bounce everywhere.
This is all a joke though.... right? No way he's in love with his close friend, he has a girlfriend that he cares about very much and knows a lot about her, like hair and..... and.....- Carter's hands feel hot and clammy he grips at his shirt trying to wipe off the sweat.
"Come on Carter, the bell just rang," says Bodie, snapping Carter out of his trance.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm coming,"
The tall tan boy waves to him, "Well hurry up. I have to catch the bus,"
"You just go. I need to find Thomas, do you know where he would be?" Carter asks.
"K, see ya tomorrow and Thomas said he was heading down to the Centro," calls out Bodie, his hair getting blown about by the strong breeze.
"Yep, tomorrow," Carter says but is barely above a whisper.
Bodie had already ran off to Balin and started chatting his head off about god knows what. And Carter just stood there on the oval, hands scrunching his shorts up and thoughts racing in the back of his head. Above him there was a storm brewing, the clouds has starts to come together and were dark grey. The weather was changing quickly, the sky had turned from it's bright blue to muted grey. Then it rained, the small water droplets coming down fast. Carter was startled by the sudden weather change, his thoughts coming to a stop. Realising he was about to get completely soaked, he bolted up the hill to the upper part of Site B.
The rain was pelting down hard and water was collecting in the weird dips in the concrete. Carter would step in these puddles by accident, fully drenching his socks.
'God can't anything good happen to me today,' he thinks when finally reaching the lockers with a cover overhead. That's when he sees a glimpse of someone's iconic golden locks pass in the distant. His impulse is ahead of his thoughts as Carter sprints to find Tom. While running to find his friend, Carter forgets people are getting their stuff and going home, so he ends up crashing into some girl in his grade.
"THE FUCK CARTER!" she yells. She was on the ground and her clothes were wet, her two friends helped her up. The girl was short as well as one of her friends, the other was tall and lanky.
"Well, you're short what do you expect and did any of you seen Tom?" says Carter
"YOU LITTLE PIECE OF -" the girl starts to yell before her tall friend cuts in.
"He went towards the office," she pointing towards the building near them.
"Thanks," he calls out as he runs forward,
"Good luck," calls out the other short girl.
'Good luck, why, for what' Carter is confused but brushes it off, he needs to find Tom. The rain is like bullets coming down painfully and rapidly. Carter feels his heart thumping through his chest, as he sees the blonde boy standing just under the cover. He's scrolling on his phone, unaware of the person watching him. Carter could feel the blush creep on his face, he shakes his head.
'No, he's just a friend. I just need to make sure he thinks that too,' that's when Thomas looks up from his phone and sees Carter standing there.
"Oh hey, what are you doing here?" Tom questions Carter, who was caught off guard.
"Uh... not much just needed to ask you something,"
"Sure, what?"
Carter takes a breath, "You know how we act like... you know.... we're gay during class right? Yeah, is the touching and um... words, all a joke right?"
"Yeah, why would they not be? I have girlfriend and you have a girlfriend, why would it not be a joke? Why you asking?" Tom says rubbing the back of his neck.
"Nothing... just needed to make sure..." he didn't know why he was disappointed, this is what he wanted...right? For Tom just to be his friend so he can be normal with no feelings for him at all, two boys can't be in love. They stood in silence, as the rain pounded down.

That's when the rain calmed, the droplets turned from bullets to feathers. The sun peeked through the clouds and the sunlight danced everywhere, it shined on Thomas; highlighting his features. Tom turned to him, smiling at Carter. His bright blue eyes was like a window to his soul, full of joy and wonder.
"Well, I better get going. I told Taylor that I'll met her at the Centro," Tom says and starts walking to the stairs that go to the street. Carter look on as he watch his friend walk towards the stairs. Every step Tom takes is another step further from Carter and he hates that. He wants to grab his hand and tell him something, but what?
"Tom," Carter says, mouth moving on its own.
"Yeah?" Thomas turns around, ready to listen.
"Nothing," Carter says biting his tongue. The blonde shrugs and turns back around, continuing to walk towards the stairs. Tom was getting further and further away.
That's when Carter lunged for him, not caring for the ringing alarm bells in his head. Carter grabbed Tom's arm and turns him around to face him.
. . . . . .
Thomas is confused, wondering what Carter was doing. His thoughts come to a pause, as Carter pressed his lips on to his. Tom's eyes widen at the contact, the feeling of dirty blonde's lips were soft and sweet. Blush rushed to his face and he pulled back, looking at Carter in shock.
. . . . . .
Carter loved the feel and taste of Tom's lips, they were smooth and had the taste of chocolate from something he just ate. A rainbow had formed behind them like a sign, the colourful light was beautiful. This was perfect, he wanted this to never end, he want to hold on to Thomas forever and stay in his warm glow. That was cut short when Tom pulled back, he's eyes were wide in shock. Tom looks at Carter like he just saw a weird creature and he bolted to the stairs and down the street, leaving Carter alone.
The rain started again, but this time Carter didn't care. He stood and stared at the spot where Tom was just standing. 'I am an idiot! Why would Tom like me!' he screamed in his head. He hated this feeling of being vulnerable and weak, to have his feelings exposed and laid out on a table to read. Tears fell from his face and mixed with the rain, the rainbow that was once glowing behind them, had greyed and started to vanish. Carter fell to his knees and hugged his arms.
"Can't anything good happen to me?"......
