So I Write The Future With This Lament

Summary:

Yoisaki Kanade is a sixteen year old in Shibuya who lives alone, reasons being her mother's death and her father being... no longer ideal for raising a human, let's say

Asahina Mafuyu is a sixteen year old vampire that lives with her parents in the vampire part of Shibuya, a sharp cold in her chest every time she finds herself in her home and a packed schedule... and an unreasonable will to stay awake during the day

Shinonome Ena is a half-vampire that lives with her human mother, vampire father and half-vampire brother in the human side of Shibuya. Even tho half of her genes require it, Ena refuses to drink blood for some reason

Akiyama Mizuki is a fifteen year old human with a... history with skipping due to a past of bullying that lost her the confidence in people wanting to befriend her

Or

This is the result of, like, MONTHS of me acting schizofrenic in class (bff's words) thinking about KanaMafu + MizuEna vampire AU plus a 13 hour flight to Japan because my mom wants me to make friends (I already have them but God forbit they're not enough to her)

Hopefully I'll update like once a week but no promises :3

Notes:

I don't know what to write here, so...

uhh

DIE MAFUMOM DIE

Chapter 1: Introductions

Chapter Text

Tonight is the night.

Tonight, she avenges her father.

Tonight, Yoisaki Kanade kills a vampire.

But not just a vampire.

That wouldn't be enough to motivate her frail, unenergetic body to make the effort to take a life.

Tonight, the nightcrawler that will be turned to ash is part of the same bloodline as the one that turned Daisuke Yoisaki.

Can it even be called a “bloodline” if I'm talking about vamp-

Not now, Kanade. You're here for a reason that doesn't have any linguistic attachments

Getting lost in though… Man, that brings her back.

There was a time where the young girl would pray to get mentally sidetracked, seeing as those mental adventures often gave her just the right idea to finish one of her songs

Although, said songs were also the reason she was out here walking in a cold night of November instead of having dinner with how little of a family she had left- her and her father, that is-

Maybe… if I hadn't been so focused on composing… I could've heard the commotion and helped dad… maybe I could've made a difference on the outcome… Maybe I could've saved him…

Kanade sighs

“What's done is done… The only thing I can do now is fixing it as much as I can…”

As she opened her eyes, the young vampire could only ask herself one thing.

What is this weight…?

She didn't remember when it began, but she did remember that it wasn't always like this.

It wasn't always this suffocating and painful to wake up in her own house, to sit down with her family, fangs piercing the plastic bag, the metallic flavor of the blood now not even acknowledged…

That was the strangest thing she noticed. She found herself almost unable to taste even the best-made packets, all while without any kind of injury to her tongue

Her constant emptiness could be explained thanks to her packed schedule probably leaving her drained. But she sincerely doubted that psychological fatigue could be the cause of the complete shutdown of one of the functions of one of her organs…

“How is it, Mafuyu?”

Mafuyu looked up from her packet, shaping her mouth to form a smile, a soothing, perfect tone accompanying her words

“Ah, it's delicious, mom. Thank you”

Utter lies, not only what she said, but also how she said it.

After all, what perfect daughter would worry her parents by letting them know she doesn't understand her emotions to the degree of almost not feeling them?

Actually, there is something I feel…

She just didn't dare to think about it… About the yearning… Yearning to be freed from this prison of school and social expectations…

Yearning to stop floating in the sea called life.

That jawline doesn't look right…

…

No, that's not the right shade of blue…

…

Wh- No arm should be able to bend like that!

…

A deep, exhausted sigh came out of the artist’s mouth after hours of drawing as she finally put down the stylus by attaching it magnetically to the back of her drawing tablet.

It looks good, no one's contesting that…

… But the longer I keep staring at it, the more the mistakes appear…

“Maybe it is true… Even with how much, eight years of drawing, I still can't cancel out my lack of talent, huh… ”

Maybe if I hadn't left that course… If I had accepted my dad's help…

The door of her room opened, a familiar ginger (ew) appearing behind it

“Oi Ena, mom said dinner's ready. Oh, also-”

Ena jumped out of her chair, her frustration reaching its peak once again

“Jesus Christ Akito! Have you ever heard of knocking?!”

“... Also, tomorrow evening me and the others will have practice, and since Shiraishi knows some people find it easier to draw with music on, she was wondering wether you wanted to come or not”

“That… That sounds like some random excuse for me to be there”

“Agreed, but she seemed insistant for some reason”

The two stayed silent for a bit, with Ena’s thinking made evident by the girl's frowning and Akito just standing there right outside the room

“What about you, Akito”

“... What about me?”

“Do you mind me being there? I know I would if the roles were reversed”

“Oh. I don't really care”

“Then I'll be there”

Akito gave his sister a thumbs up, preparing to leave, suddenly stopping and turning around.

“Oh, last thing. Did you see dad's packets? He says he can't find them”

“Why do you ask me? You know I don't drink that shit! Probably mom just moved them somewhere else to make up space for groceries”

Akito sighed.

He -and of the rest of the family- had been trying for years to get Ena to drink blood, but every time they asked she stubbornly refused, even tho the artist knew that the blood half of her genes would appreciate her drinking was gathered with no permanent harm done to anyone.

“... Yeah thinking about it that's probably what happened. Anyways, you coming or what?”

“Yeah sure just let me save this”

In response, Akito just closed the door and probably walked down the stairs, leaving Ena alone with her thoughts in her room.

So tomorrow I'll draw in front of Akito’s band, huh?

That's juuust great…

“So… you want me to come to your band’s rehearsal tomorrow evening even tho I only know you, and by extension Azusawa…?”

<Precisely, so?>

“... Yeah… No”

<WHY NOT??>

“Because I don't know anyone and it'll be awkward! Why are you even suggesting that??”

<Mizuki… Where are you right now?>

“... In my bed, why…?”

<That's exactly why I'm asking you to come! You spend all of your time alone except for when me or Kamishiro are with you!>

“Yeah, and?”

<And?! And you need to make more friends! Like, yes you're one of my closest friends and all that, but frankly you need more people you can ask to hang out with!>

“Yeah, and that's where Rui comes in”

The line felt silent. Then, out of nowhere, Mizuki heard the longest sigh she ever heard.

<... Just- Please, think about it, alright?>

“... Alright, I'll let you know, bye An”

<Oh, and don't you dare skip tomo->

“BYE AN!”

As she finished speaking, Mizuki closed the call.

Yeah, no way

If she asks me to hang out with strangers out of school, she can't expect me to also go to school

…

Besides, it's not like I haven't tried befriending other people…

It just taught me that not everyone wants to hang out with those like me
