The forest was quiet around them. Just the sound of birdsong in the trees and hooves hitting the coarse dirt on the path.
Henry looked around, swiftly checking for any irregular movements in the trees, before calling out to Hans.
''Sir Hans! Slow down a moment!''
As Hans gently showed his horse, Henry kicked Pebbles up a few steps until they were almost side to side.
Hans pulled up close with an inquisitive sound, ''Something up? You see anythi-''
Before Hans could fully process it, Henry had lightly taken his arm to pull him across the gap between their two horses, tugging him in close until he could land a soft kiss on his surprised lips.
Pulling away slowly from Hans's comically stunned face, he let out a chuckle.
''Cat got your tongue, my lord?''
Hans spluttered for a second before crying out, ''I rather think it was you who got my tongue! What was that for??''
Smirk turning softer, Henry shrugged as they pulled away fully.
''Just wanted to, sir.''
''I think we can drop the sir at this point...'' Hans muttered quietly, his face flushed and turned away from Henry.
''Just wanted to... Blacksmith's boy doesn't know his damned place..'' Hans kept mumbling indignantly to himself, flustered now as Henry watched Hans trot away from him and Pebbles with a soft smile on his face.
