Chapter Text

Dae-hyun Park was lonely. Ever since his best friend Hana Song left to join Overwatch things haven't quite been the same.

Sure he gets on mostly well with most people on the MEKA base in Busan but he's always felt left out when Hana wasn't around. The rest of the MEKA squad never really paid any notice of him most of the time and on the rare occasion they did it was clear they didn't have much in common with him. Yuna (Dmon) always said nothing more than a quick "Hi" before doing her own thing, obviously not willing to stay around and chat. Jae-eun (Casino) was alright but never had the attention span to last a conversation more than a minute long. Kyung-soo (King) downright disliked him, always making fun of his shy personality and closeness to Hana, he never understood why he never treated him kindly but he was always a punching bag to his jokes. Commanding officer Captain Myung was a great leader but downright scary at times and it's been harder without his bestie to help. That leaves Seung-hwa (overlord) who is possibly the squad member (apart from Hana of course) he gets on with the most, always happy to greet Dae-hyun and acting nice to him. Even so Dae-hyun always felt overshadowed by the fellow mechanic, wowing everyone with his skills while no one paid attention to Dae-hyun, he was always known as "that friend of Hana."

Dae-hyun sighed "I sure miss you Han" as he wiped sweat from his forehead as he was hard at work fixing a Mech for Commander Myung. He emails his friend daily and the two recently spent Christmas together at the Overwatch Gibraltar Watchpoint. It was the best Christmas he had in years, spent with his best friend, meeting the heroes of Overwatch and seeing their famous headquarters with his owns eyes. Things are just not the same alone here in Busan.

"What's up Dae-boy!" A teasing, mocking voice entered the room. Dae-hyun groaned when he saw King enter the room, obviously ready for another round of taunting. "Seung not now please, I'm busy and this is going to take hours to finish, I'm not in the mood right now."

"Oh come on you're being overdramatic!"

"I'm fixing the Mech YOU destroyed in the last fight with the Gwishin! Myung even told me yours was the only one that got beat up bad" Dae reminded the other boy who's face turned sour, never liking when Dae-hyun pointed out his reckless behaviour. "Shut up! It only got destroyed because I had to do twice the work thanks to your girlfriend abandoning us to work with those criminals!"

Dae-hyun sighed again "They're not criminals and for the millionth time Hana is not my girlfriend." Dae-hyun loved Hana, he really did. But he never had romantic feelings for her. He always thought he should but he just didn't. Everyone else always thought they were a couple. He couldn't tell anyone the real reason why he and Hana will never be a couple, and he dreaded if King ever find out why.

King stayed in the room and began to whistle in a high pitch knowing how much that irritated the mechanic. Dae-hyun sighed for what felt like the hundredth time that day as he turned up the music of his phone louder.

King scoffed at the song "er is that that Overwatch DJ? Oh god you're not still a fan of him aren't you? His music sucks! He's overrated and I don't get why all the girls love him because he's not even hot" he sulked with jealousy, "him and his father are also terrorists-

"They're not!" Dae finally snapped.

King scoffed "er yes they are, everyone knows it. That's why he probably joined Overwatch. I can't believe you still listen to him. So glad Hana isn't here as you too always played his crap music. Honestly if it wasn't for the fact you and Hana are totally an item then I'd thought you were gay for the guy-"

"Shut up!" Dae-hyun officially had enough. There was a reason he didn't want to reveal to anyone why he wasn't dating Hana and this was why"

King still teased "ooooh did I insult your talentless boyfriend? If it wasn't for Hana I would've thought you were queer any-"

"Kung-soo that's enough! Get out of here and back to work!" A woman's voiced barked. King stormed off passed an impatient Commander Myung. "Park, get that done by today" as she too left the room.

Dae-hyun wiped the sweat from his forehead again as he tried to fight back tears. He tried not to get King's tormenting get to him but it was hard to especially with no Hana. She always stood up for him. Dae was a lonely child in school and was always picked on by the other boys. One day he was pinned to the wall by his bullies when a girl from his class pulled them off and kicked their asses. "Hey leave him alone! Pick on someone your own size!"

She tripped another bully who was trying to restrain her and eventually a shriek of "let's get out of here, she's crazy!" echoed. When the bullies left, the girl took Dae's hand and lifted him to his feet "grrrr I hate bullies! But it's OK now because you've got me!"

The two were inseparable since. They sat next to each other in every class, built their first Mech together and did sleepovers every week. Hana even only joined MEKA on the condition Dae went with her as her mechanic, she wanted no one else for the role. Their family, friends and co workers always presumed the two were dating but it wasn't true. Hana always viewed Dae as a brother and Dae...well he didn't want to tell anyone the real reason why he didn't have romantic feelings for Hana.

Dae-hyun sniffed another tear as he realised life just wasn't the same without his best friend.

The week passed and Dae-hyun continued his boring new life. Getting ignored by his co workers, getting teased by King, missing Hana and listening to Lucio's music as his passion for engineering faded.

Then his heart missed a beat as two hands from behind covered his eyes "GUESS WHO?!"

The hands released and Dae stood up, praying when he turned round he'd see the face that match the voice, it did. "Hana? What are you doing here?" 

Hana jumped on to Dae-hyun and wrapped her arms around for a big hug "I wanted to see my best friend silly! Come on let's go to the cafeteria, we have much to catch up on!"

The two spent the next hour catching up while eating lunch. A few others of the squad like Casino and Overlord hugged Hana, Dmon said "Hi" but was rather interested in her phone more whereas King gave a mumble "hi" before leaving.

"He still hasn't changed, he's not giving you grief is he?"

Dae forced a fake smile "of course not."

"And what's up with Yuna? She seems preoccupied" Hana asked.

"Well from I've heard she may have a boyfriend-"

"SHUT UP! For real? Yuna is dating? Wow that's something I wasn't expecting, she always seemed too busy for that." Hana then smiled cheekily "you dating anyone?"

Dae-hyun coughed while he drank "WHAT!?" He squeaked.

"I'm teasing Dae!" She giggled with a mischievous grin. "Anyway forget about that, we now need to talk about why I'm here."

Dae-hyun gave her a puzzled look "yeah...why are you here? You said in your emails you've been too busy with Overwatch to come visit."

Hana explained everything "well you've probably heard on the news that we've been hard at work. Yesterday Winston-thats the Gorilla who ate your peas at Christmas-he set up a meeting yesterday. He told us it was time we got some new recruits and I told him I had the perfect person in mind."

Dae was lost "I don't understand Hana?"

Hana rolled her eyes "Silly Dae, I'm talking about you! I want you to come back with me to Overwatch today!"

Dae-hyun was stunned silent. "For real...me?" Hana shook her head with a smile as he continued "are you sure? What's a little mechanic like me going to be of use to Overwatch? They have legendary recruits like Reinhardt Wilheim, brace leaders like Viven Chase and geniuses like Angela Zeigler. I'd be a waste. No Hana you're better off finding someone better than me. Why not ask Overlord?"

Hana held his hands as she replied "No Dae, I want you! Not just want but I need you too! We've been through so much together and I want you to continue to do so with me. You're by far the best mechanic I know and I know for definite Overwatch needs you! You've helped so much with the Gwishin here and i know you will be great help against Null Sector and Talon. You're brilliant Dae-hyun and I'm not taking No for an answer! Please Dae I need my bestie with me!" She pouted her face like a puppy knowing it always persuaded Dae-hyun. 

Dae sighed in defeat "I guess I shall pack my bags now then."

Hana cheered victorious "Oh yeah! Me and my bestie in Overwatch! Let's go!" 

After getting off the aircraft that took them through most of their journey, both Dae-hyun and Hana walked the final moments until their destination. 

"Nearly there!" Hana said cheerily, "the others are so looking forward to you joining us!"

Dae-hyun was surprised "really?"

"Yes really! They really liked you at Christmas!"

"They did?" Dae-hyun couldn't help but smile.

Hana continued "yep they think you're going to be a great asset to the team! Brigitte is happy another mechanic is joining, she loves engineering with others! Juno is excited to be friends with you. Winston and Vivian in particular are relieved to have another recruit. Efi like Brigitte is happy for more brainiacs on the team. Oh and Zarya says you just join her workouts, no exception! Echo said she wants to continue her discussion about mechanical engineering she had at Christmas with you. Cole is just glad for more guys on the team. Oh and Lucio especially is really happy you're joining."

Dae-hyun perked up with a slight blush appearing "really? I didn't think he'd remember me."

Hana scoffed "are you kidding? You two got on really well at Christmas! You spent dinner sitting next to each other and spent hours chatting! It was so cute especially as you've loved his music for years. He really felt at ease talking to you, joining Overwatch was daunting for him but he seemed relaxed with you, he was actually quite sad when you left. He was the first to agree with me that you should join."

Before Dae-hyun could ask anymore questions, Hana declared "We're here!" After a few minutes getting through the tight security and passwords, Hana led Dae-hyun to his new home. The doors opened to a wide room full of busy Overwatch agents clearly having a busy shift. Dae-hyun was stunned by the chaos. The room was full of numerous conversations.

"Mei are Reinhardt, Brigitte and Baptisite back from the mission yet?"

"Their jet should be back any minute Winston!"

"Ugh my coffee's gone cold" Cole Cassidy grumbled.

"Fareeha you shouldn't be flying in here!"

"Lighten up Angela!"

"Juno we need those tests back soon."

"On it Genji!"

"Orisa go help Echo would you?"

"Yes Efi."

Cole grumbled again "Bastion your bird is eating on these papers again."

Dae-hyun stood wide eyed at the chaos. He was going to have to get used to it now he's part of the team.

"Hey Vivian we're back!" Hana shouted over the loudness.

Vivian Chase greeted the two "Hey Hana. Sorry it's been a busy day. Hey newbie, glad you accepted it, we're really happy to have you on board." A few of the other Overwatch agents stopped what they were doing to all kindly greet their new team member. Vivian continued "I've got some jobs to do so I'll let Hana take you and your stuff to your new room. Settle in for today and we'll get you to work tomorrow."

Dae-hyun began to follow Hana but before he knew it someone accidently walked (or more like skated) into him causing him to fall down.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry! Here let me help you up!"

Dae-hyun accepted the hand and replied "it's no bother, thanks-" he stopped when he stood face to face with Lucio.

Dae had to fight back a blush as Lucio smiled warmly at him "Hey Dae-hyun! I'm so happy you came! I really wanted to see you again..." it was now Lucio's turn to fight the urge to blush.

"Really?"

"Yeah. I had a great time at Christmas. Hana had told us so much about you and she was right, you're awesome. Also I'm sorry if I annoyed you with all the singing..."

"I love your voice" Dae-hyun said truthfully, "you're a great singer Lucio."

"Yeah?" Lucio's blush was now getting more red.

"Yeah. And I agree I had a great time with you that day. Normally people get so bored about my work as a mechanic but you seemed not too bothered."

"I enjoyed listening to you talk. And you're not boring, I think the work you do is amazing." Lucio stuttered "I...um...would love it if you could show me some of your work sometime."

Dae-hyun was touched "really?"

"Really." Lucio answered with more confidence.

The two stared each other for a while before a loud cough reminded them that they were not alone. Dae-hyun was flustered as he said "oh yes, I'm coming Hana! See you later Lucio!"

"See you later Dae-hyun, excited to work with you!"

"Me too!" Dae-hyun replied as he followed Hana to his room. 

"See I told you he was excited to see you" Hana said.

Dae-hyun smiled. He started the day shaking with fear about his new life in Overwatch but after seeing his new home, his new team-and Lucio-he could now say he was very much looking forward to his new job saving the world as Overwatch's newest mechanic.

*FLASHBACK*

Dae-hyun was surprised to get a call from Overwatch to spend Christmas at their headquarters. But honestly he couldn't turn it down. He had miss Hana terribly and spending the holidays with her was the best present imaginable.

Still it was daunting being with so many people he'd never met before. So many Overwatch legends like Ana Amari, Angela Zeigler and Lena Oxten. Still everyone seemed nice and he knew it must've also meant a lot to them to spend the day with their loved ones. After hugging Hana he accidently bumped into a new face "Oh sorry I didn't see-" he paused when he came face to fave with one of Overwatch's most famous new recruit.

The DJ smiled back "no problem, it was my fault for not looking. You're Hana's friend right?"

As if on cue, the said girl appeared "Dae this is Lucio, Lucio this is Dae! You know Dae is a BIG fan of your music Lucio!"

"Oh really?" The DJ smiled.

Dae-hyun stammered "Uh...well...yeah...I mean...I like listening to it and I..."

"Dinner is served!" The Gorilla known has Winston yelled to the packed room. 

"Hey Lucio, why don't you and your father sit next to me and Dae?"

Lucio grinned "sure why not?"

"And a Ganymede in a metal treeeee" Lucio sang.

"He's not bad" Dae-hyun praised.

"Don't encourage him!" Hana laughed "he's been reinventing his own Christmas songs all day, it's been driving me crazy!"

Dae-hyun had been loving the Christmas feast. Tasty food and drink but the company is what really made his day. It was great seeing all of Hana's new friends and colleagues. Echo had a deep conversation about his mechanic career, Reinhardt sang some festive classics, Zarya showed how strong she was by lifting Dae-hyun with just one arm while he spent a good while playing (and losing) a game of charades with the ex cowboy Cole. The best part of the meal was getting to know Lucio better. He couldn't help but be awe struck into spending Christmas with one of his favourite musicians. The two talked about their year, their hobbies and their favourite festive traditions. Dae-hyun was worried he was boring the DJ about his mechanical lifestyle but was genuinely touched when Lucio seemed to be genuinely interested in his life. He was always worried that he would be considered "boring" to many especially when his best friend was a E-sports champion, Korean hero and a new Overwatch member. However Lucio seemed like a possible new friend to him, Dae couldn't believe someone like Lucio would be interested in being friends with him. He still couldn't believe he was sitting next to him. Dae-hyun had to conceal a blush, he couldn't deny the DJ was extremely handsome. He couldn't let Hana know though as he wouldn't hear the end of it.

After a while, Dae-hyun remembered Lucio's song, "What is a Ganymede anyway?" he asked.

"Him!" Hana pointed to the pretty bird flying near the omnic Bastion. Dae-hyun was surprised to see a former killing machine in Overwatch. But wasn't that proof that anyone could get on? He wished for a world where humans and omnics could co exist.

Dae and Hana continued talking while Lucio's father Benicio spotted the former athelte Zarya with her nieces and nephews. "You know son, when are you going to find someone and start a family for yourself?"

Lucio choked on his turkey "DAD!?" 

Benicio chuckled "hey you would make a great father! Plus don't you want to settle down someday?"

Lucio sighed "sure but I just haven't found that special someone yet. Plus I'm too committed to Overwatch currently, I'm too busy for romance and kids!"

The day continued and Lucio and Dae-hyun continued to get to know each other more. When time came for Dae-hyun to return to MEKA the two boys couldn't deny being sad. 

"It was great getting to know you Dae, I hope to see you again one day" Lucio shook his hand.

"Likewise" the mechanic smiled.

*END OF FLASHBACK*

The alarm bolted Dae-hyun from his sleep. He yawned as he woke in his new room at Watchpoint Gibralter, only his first morning but still something he knew he was going to take some time to get used to. He thought it was odd he dreamt of his first interaction with Lucio but shook his thoughts away as he sprinted to the dining hall for breakfast, knowing he shouldn't be late for his first day.

He turned up to see the girl Juno wave excitedly at him "Morning Dae-hyun! I saved you a seat and got a plate for you!"

"Thank you Juno!" Dae was genuinely touched by her kind gesture. He tucked into his tasty breakfast. "Hey where's Hana?"

"She, Lucio, Winston, Baptisite and Pharah had to leave early for a mission, we just saw the report on the TV" Mei said as she joined the two on the table. "So Dae-hyun how have you settled in?"

Dae-hyun swallowed his food as he replied "still quite surreal. Never thought this would happen to me."

"It takes some time to get used to but I know you'll be a great asset for the team."

"Thanks Mei"

The three spent breakfast together as Dae-hyun got the know the two better. Mei and Juno were an interesting pair with fascinating backgrounds. One was someone who spent years in the original Overwatch while the other literally came from Mars!

"Ah newbie there you are! Hope you're settling in!" The Commander Vivian Chase arrived, "once you're done I want you to go one of our workshops, you'll be working with Brigitte and others with some engineering etc."

Dae-hyun took a deep breath to calm the nerves as he knocked on the door. "Come in!" He heard.as he entered he witnessed a workshop bigger than he could've imagined. He never had a place as big to work in before. He couldn't believe his eyes at the scale of the room as he gasped "wow" at the sheer sight. "There you are! Come in Come in! He could hear and then eventually see Brigitte sitting by a desk screwing some metal together. He could see Echo, Orisa, Efi, Bastion and his bird Ganymede were also with her.

"Wow this place is.."

"Amazing yeah? I was like that too! Efi answered.

"Greetings mr Dae-hyun" Orisa greeted.

"Uh hey Orisa" Dae-hyun waved back, still feeling surreal that he was working with a omnic horse. He then turned to see Bastion playing with Ganymede "he seems happy."

Brigitte replied "yeah he loves it here. After everything he's been through it's nice to see him happy. He's been with my father a while before joining here. Oh that reminds me my dad said he'd love to work with you when he next returns, he's fascinated by the work you've done on Hana's Mech."

At that moment a dog ran to greet Dae-hyun. "Murphy down! He's got no food! Sorry Dae! Vivian is really busy today so I said I'd look after her dog."

Dae-hyun chuckled as he patted Murphy "first a bird and now a dog. You all could start your own farm here!"

"Oh we don't have that much pets" Brigitte insisted, getting a glare from Efi. At that point a big white cat walked over to greet Dae-hyun. Brigitte chuckled "er so I may have my vat Mitzi here too, but still we don't have THAT many pets here!"

Dae-hyun stroked Mitzi as Efi explained "Brigitte is cat crazy. Heck she even talks about putting a jetpack on Mitzi here-"

"I was just joking! ...sort of..."

"A jetpack cat? Now I've heard everything" Dae-hyun laughed.

Dae-hyun spent the whole day working in the workshop. He absolutely loved it, he never had this many people to share in his love for mechanics and engineering back at the MEKA base. Plus it was great getting to the others, Brigitte especially was great fun to be around, while he was awed at Efi's intelligence. Bastion, Echo and Orisa were proof that omnics belonged in society and hope humanity would change their views on them. Plus he may have such a few treats to Ganymede, Murphy and Mitzi.

"So how have you enjoyed your first day here Dae-hyun?" Echo asked.

"I've loved it! Really feels like I'm making a difference here helping everyone out."

"You're very good at fixing all of this stuff" Orisa praised, "we need all the help we can get if we are to defeat Talon and Null Sector."

"Do you think we can?" Dae-hyun asked. After seeing the news the past few years it did worry him that both Talon and Null Sector were getting more powerful by the day. Overwatch is really the only chance left at stopping them."

Efi scoffed "they have nothing on us. I'm gonna get that stupid Doomfist for the damage he's done to Numbani."

Orisa nodded "we will stop them Efi."

Echo added "we must stop Talon and Null Sector. It's what Dr Liao would've wanted..."

Brigitte said "with people like you Dae-hyun? Yes I believe we can beat them. They're going to regret messing with us! I know Reinhardt wants to bash that Reaper on the head with his hammer!"

A while later and it was late afternoon. The group heard a cough as they turned to see Lucio who shyly said "Hey everyone...hey Dae-hyun. We're all back. Commander Chase says everyone's to meet immediately in the meeting room, she says it's important."

"Hey Dae!" Hana greeted as she hugged Dae-hyun as he entered the meeting room. "Enjoyed your first day?"

Dae-hyun nodded enthusiastically "Oh yes it's been wonderful!"

"He's been great help Hana!" Brigitte explained.

"How was the mission?" Dae-hyun asked.

Hana scoffed "that Null Sector was nothing, peace of cake!"

Vivian was the last to enter the room and ordered for silence "okay everyone settle down. I know it's getting late but this shouldn't take long. First I want to start by welcoming our new recruit Dae-hyun and also to say congratulations to our team for their successful mission today." Dae-hyun blushed by the clapping from his new colleagues while Hana bowed jokingly to praise for her.

Vivian continued "and while it's been a great few months, things are only going to get harder which made me realise one thing...we're going to need more recruits." She explained "for now me and the more veteran members of the team are trying to contact former members to ask if they want back in but we must be careful as Talon is trying to get to these people to kill them, they've already succeeded with a few sadly. There's some former members who would be vital to the team, even if they only help part time like Ana and Torbjorn. While we do that, does anyone here have any suggestions?"

"There's an archaeologist from the Wayfinders who recently had a run in with Mauga from Talon, I want to find them to know what that as all about" Mei suggested.

"I could ask mum if she's seen anyone of use" Pharah offered.

"I'll ask the same same to papa!" Brigitte added.

"I could ask some ex Talon members like me who want to change, I know there's many out there" Baptisite said.

Genji explained "my former master Zenyatta has been friendly with two people connected with Vishkar-"

"NO!" Lucio stood up in anger. "After what that company did to my hometown and father? Absolutely not!"

Genji replied "I understand your anger Lucio I really do. But one of these left Vishkar and is currently on the run from Talon. While the other my master is on very good terms with and he believes she's very hesitant about the company recently."

Plus isn't this new Overwatch about giving people a chance to redeem themselves? People were hesitant about Bastion, Baptisite and others joining yet they are proof people want to atone for the past." Tracer reminded.

"Yeah I'm so thankful for the second chance you all gave me, these people deserve it too" Baptiste agreed.

Lucio sat down and sighed "Yeah you're all right. I'm sorry. If Genji's master trusts them and says they deserve another chance then I'm willing to let them have that chance."

Vivian smiled proudly at her team and then said "any other suggestions?"

Silence. That was until Winston spoke "Well there's this genius hamster that lived on the moon with me that I recently found out secretly escaped with me and lived for years with the Junkers. He's a mechanic and one of the smartest animals I know."

Stunned silence. That was until Vivian said "Okay get that hamster Winston."

Cassidy stuttered "Excuse me did he just say hamster? As in a actual hamster? I've seen some crazy shit in my lifetime but that has got to be my new number one."

Vivian stared at Cassidy as she replied "Cole, this is the same team with a talking Gorilla, a robot horse, a former Talon member, a former Olympic athlete, an ex killer robot with a pet bird, an E sports pilot and a girl from Mars."

"...Good point" Cassidy admitted.

After that Vivian ended the meeting and everyone went to their rooms for bed. Dae-hyun however wasn't feeling very sleepy at the moment. He decided he needed some fresh air so went to one of the HQ's nearest balconies. He was surprised to see he wasn't alone "oh hi Lucio...I can go if you want?"

"Nah course not, come join me. I spend a lot of nights here, isn't the view beautiful?"

Dae-hyun had to agree as the sky full of stars took his breath away. "Are you okay about earlier? I know Vishkar aren't exactly your favourite people."

Lucio sighed sadly "it's just that after everything they did to my city and my father. It makes me so angry, I hate them. But Tracer is right and that if these two people want to change then I will give them that chance. I mean Bapsitise is proof our past shouldn't matter."

The two spent a while simply sitting next to each other and staring at the stars. Dae-hyun than asked a question that has been on his mind a while "okay I've gotta ask, how are you so good on those skates?"

Lucio laughed "Oh you're interested in giving them a go?"

Dae-hyun giggled "thanks but I don't think out shoe sizes are the same."

Silence. Until Lucio said quietly "you can hang on to me."

"What?"

"You can hang to my back as I skate us both...I mean if you want" his cheeks started to go red.

So before he knew it, Dae-hyun was being given a piggy back by Lucio, who was much stronger than he looked. "Hold on tight okay?" The DJ said.

Dae-hyun rested his face on the neck of Lucio as he wrapped his arms tightly around the DJ as he skated the two around. Dae-hyun was nervous but felt safe. He was awkward at first about the close contact but it felt so normal to him. His cheeks contact on Lucio's skin gave him goosebumps as he inhaled a lovely scent as he hugged more tighter. Lucio was glad to be facing away has his knew his cheeks were getting too red. He too enjoyed the touch as Dae-hyun's arms wrapped around his body like a deep embrace. Lucio skated slowly and gently for a while longer. Eventually as he was finished Dae-hyun jumped off his back and the two men immediately missed the contact.

"That was...incredible" Dae-hyun beamed.

"Really?"

"Yes really. I loved it Lucio. It felt...amazing. I didn't hurt you too much with me clinging on tight?"

"No! No you were just fine." Lucio smiled back.

The two men stared at each other's eyes for what felt like forever until Dae-hyun yawned loudly (and cutely in Lucio's opinion). "I guess I better get some sleep. Thanks again Lucio and maybe we should do this again often?"

A smitten Lucio nodded "definitely."

It's been a busy few weeks at Watchpoint Gibralter. Saving the world wasn't as easy as the movies made it out to be.

Everyone was putting in equal effort. Brigitte and Efi was leading a team of engineers to fix important equipment. Winston and Mei were engrossed in their experiments. Meanwhile Vivian had really stepped up in the role of leader, the team couldn't of asked for anyone better.

A yawning Dae-hyun stretched while taking a break in the lounge area. "Hey echo, it's pretty quiet here today."

"I believe some members have been on missions today Mr Park, although Commander Chase was very brief on details."

At that point a certain Brazilian DJ skated in and immediately stopped in front of the mechanic as he blushed "Oh...hey there Dae-hyun!"

"Hey there Lucio" the mechanic greeted back with an equal shade of red blushing on his cheeks. The two simply stared at each other for a while before a roaring Reinhardt entered "Dae-hyun! Brigitte has asked for your assistance!"

"Coming Reinhardt! Well...see you later Lucio!" 

Lucio waved sadly to Dae-hyun before his thoughts were interrupted by Echo "you two have been spending an awful lot of time together Lucio"

"Well yeah, he's a great guy" said an honest Lucio.

"Why has your face gotten so red?"

Lucio choked "...Wh-at!?- I ain't red Echo this is my normal face! I'm just...hot!"

"The weather isn't very hot today-"

"I'm very sensitive to heat okay!"

At night Vivian ordered everyone to come to the meeting room, apparently it was urgent.

"Anyone know what's this is about?"

"No idea."

"All I heard was that we had to get here ASAP."

"I hope this isn't bad news."

"What if it's another Null Sector attack? Or Talon?"

At that moment, the room was hushed silent as Vivian entered, followed by four fresh faces.

"Greetings team. A few weeks ago we discussed the need for new recruits, well I'm pleased to say we've made some progress thanks to some sources (she didn't need to say the names Ana Amari and Jack Morrison. Everyone in the new Overwatch knew they were secretly still alive."

Vivian turned to show off the four new recruits. One seemed cheerful, the other extremely cheerful, the other disinterested and the other stand-offish.

"Why don't you all introduce yourselves?" Vivian suggested to the new recruits.

"OOH ME ME ME! CAN I GO FIRST? HI EVERYONE! I'M SLOAN CAMERON! I'M A MEMBER OF THE ARCHAEOLOGIST GROUP THE WAYFINDERS! I WAS THE ONE WHO HAD THAT RUN IN WITH THAT BIG DOOFUS MAUGA A WHILE BACK? WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M HERE! SO MANY ICONS IN THIS ROOM! VIVIAN CHASE! ANGELA ZIEGLER! REINHARDT WILHEIM! MEI-LING ZHOU! WINSTON!"

"Well they seem cheerful" Mei said as the team talked quietly so the new recruits couldn't hear.

"I like them!" Juno agreed.

"I've always found archaeology a most fascinating topic" Winston mused.

"...they're a little dirty don't you think?" Genji asked, staring at the dirt and mud that covered Sloan.

Next to introduce themselves was the tallest man with long bright hair. "Name's Niran. You've probably seen my dashing face on the news and all the wanted posters around the globe. Got a target on my back after escaping Vishkar. Glad be on the run with other outlaws, let's make this world a better place."

"He is very handsome!" Mercy said.

"Most very handsome indeed!" Baptisite smiled.

"He is....decent looking I admit" Zarya agreed.

Lucio noticed Dae-hyun staring at the tall flower man. He also noticed Niran giving Dae-hyun a cheeky wink, causing the mechanic to blush. "I don't like him" Lucio scowled as he crossed his arms.

Next to introduce was the woman next to Niran "My name is Satya Vaswani." Silence.

"You need to say more than that Satya!" Niran chuckled at his friend. She rolled her eyes dramatically as she continued "I was at Vishkar with this nincompoop here. Thought I was doing the right thing but my suspicions about the company has been on my mind for a while. I wasn't sure joining this...little group was the best idea, but master Zenyatta has been a good friend and I trust his judgement."

"So you're the one my master mentioned" Genji spoke up as Satya nodded in confirmation.

"Seems more and more people at Vishkar are waking up and seeing that company for what they are" Tracer said. Lucio remained in silence, it was going to take a while to trust Satya and Niran after everything Vishkar did to his father and people. He knew he did have to give them a fair chance though. He was surprised Satya was here, he didn't think someone so pompous as her would agree to join Overwatch. Genji's monk master must've been really influencal to her.

Vivian spoke to the final recruit "well Illari?"

A girl with the most striking hair mumbled "Name's Illari. The last of my people. Didn't think of joining but your soldier friend got me to change my mind. But I'm gone if my friend isn't here, that was the deal" she warned.

Vivian replied "Cole assured me he's coming. They should be here any minute." And at that moment the cowboy burst through the doors dragging something in with him "this rascal is stronger than he looks, why did I have to be on animal duty" he groaned.

The team was stunned by the new arrival "is that a llama!?" Tracer squealed in excitement. 

Illari nodded "Chuno. The only friend I have left from home."

"Aw he's a cutie! I think Mitzi has a new friend" Brigitte smiled. The llama was currently trying to take a bite out of Cole's cowboy hat.

"Well that should've been everyone but one of our new recruits hasn't shown up yet" Vivian told everyone.

At that moment a robotic "He has arrived" echoed as a mechanic ball rolled through the room in front of everyone. It then stopped moving to then show a little creature popping from the ball-a rodent.

"Is that a-!?"

"A HAMSTER!?"

"He's so cute!"

"What's it doing in that big ball!?"

"And how is he speaking!?"

Satya rolled her eyes "from working at Vishkar to now working with a rodent, oh how I've fallen."

"This place is turning into a freaking petting zoo!" Cole whined.

Chuno sniffed the new arrival earning a reply "the hamster does not appreciate being sniffed."

An excited Winston jumped up to greet his old friend "Hammond! You came!" But stopped in his tracks and was sas as the hamster glared angrily at him. It seemed Hammond still held a grudge over what happened at Horizon Lunar Colony. "Give him time buddy" Tracer consoled the sad Gorilla.

"Ladies and gentleman, this is Hammond. His Mech here is called the 'Wrecking Ball'.

"Wrecking ball!?"

"That name sounds familiar..."

"Wait I know! You're the JunkerQueen's champion at Junkertown!" Pharah gasped.

"This little guy here is the famous Wrecking ball? Incredible!"

"Let's hope he isn't as aggressive as the junkers."

Now the introductions were over, Vivian spoke "So I think it's important we get to know our new team members."

"That can only mean one thing!" Tracer squealed.

Vivian chuckled "Yes it does. You've all earned the night off. Let's have a little party."

The party was in full swing and everyone mostly seemed to be having a good time. Hammond was showing off his Mech to his new teammates while a sad Winston watched from afar.

"I'm sure you two will work it out" Tracer sympathetically patted his shoulder.

Winston sighed "we were close friends but he blames me for the fact he thinks I abandoned him when I left for Earth, not that I blame him, I should've made sure he was with me."

"You both need to sit down and talk, I'm sure he'll understand if you explain."

Winston sighed "the problem is Lena, he's a very stubborn hamster."

Meanwhile Sloan was excitedly meeting their new teammates "I can't believe I'm now a part of Overwatch! This is so cool!"

"I'm glad to have an archaeologist on the team" Mei smiled.

"I'm glad to be here! I've been a fan of your work for a while now Mei!" Sloan then turned to Juno and asked "by the way, can I ask something Juno?"

"Sure! Ask away!"

"What does Martian rocks taste like?" Juno had to explain that on Mars they do not eat rocks. Sloan was surprised so many people gave them funny looks that night.

Lucio noticed Satya turning a nose at her drink and mostly keeping to herself. "She's such a snob. Thinks she's better than everyone here. She won't even look at me in the eye when we talk."

Dae-hyun gently explained to Lucio "Hana told me, Satya has autism. I knew someone at school who had if too. They don't mean to be rude Lucio, they just find things a bit overwhelming at times. Everyday things can be difficult to them. This must be such a challenging change for her."

Lucio felt like shit "geez I didn't know. Now I feel bad."

Without thinking, Dae-hyun held the DJ's hand to soothe him "you didn't know Lucio, you did nothing wrong. I know it'll be hard for you seeing Satya and Niran with what everything Vishkar has done."

"I hate Vishkar" growled Lucio, "the way they treated my father and people is unforgivable!"

"I agree I'm not exactly the biggest Vishkar supporter either, but like Baptisite both Satya and Niran are here to change."

Lucio smiled as he squeezed Dae-hyun's hand back "You're so sweet, you know that right?"

Dae-hyun was speechless as his heart skipped a beat. That was until the pair were interrupted by a new face "Hello boys!"

"Hi Niran" Dae-hyun kindly greeted back. Lucio simply grumbled a greeting back, this Niran guy was really rubbing him the wrong way. He wasn't the biggest fan of arrogant people and this guy was so full of himself.

"You're Dae-hyun right?" Niran asked. "Hana told me all about you. She didn't say however how handsome you are" he bowed down to place a kiss on Dae-hyun's hands, causing the mechanic to heavily blush.

Lucio gritted his teeth loudly as Niran took Dae-hyun away to get some drinks. His face was also turning red but for a different reason.

"What is that loud noise? It's very loud, even with this music playing" Orisa asked.

Echo replied "I believe that it's Lucio. Lucio are you alright? You're grinding your teeth very loudly. You seem disappointed?"

Lucio forced a fake smile "I'm absolutely fine Echo! Absolutely fine!"

Orisa added "I don't know why but my calculations say you are jealous of something."

"JEALOUS!? I'm not jealous!" Lucio was sure he wasn't jealous of anything...was he? He couldn't deny seeing Dae-hyun walk off with Niran felt like a punch to the heart, but he didnt know why he felt that way.

Orisa concluded "I just saw Mr Park with our new recruit Niran, they already seem close."

"What really? I couldn't tell!" A sarcastic Lucio replied. Yep he was jealous. Especially as he spent the rest of the night sulking as he watched Dae-hyun get along with Niran.

Overall the party was a huge success. It seemed the new recruits were settling in very well already. 'Not only are we a team, but we're also becoming a family' Vivian thought. She felt confident the team was able to face anything as long as they have each other, something Talon lacked.
