Before the earth was created, there was a void. From the void came Chaos, an entity, who was alone in the universe for eons. But he became lonely because of the endless darkness engulfing him. And so, he crafted himself a companion. He thought hard. He wanted to create an entity who were to give him unconditional love but had a mind of its own. Chaos began to separate the darkness and shape a tiny creature. He shaped sharp ears, a tiny body and a long tail. He added long whiskers, big blue eyes and white soft fur. The tiny creature stood out in the darkness, almost like… hmm, Chaos wasn’t sure how to explain it exactly.
He smiled, acknowledging the tiny creature. He was very satisfied with what he had created. The creature made a soft sound, cuddling up to him. His tiny companion was playful, but sleepy as well. It ran laps around Chaos and suddenly dropped at his feet, curling up into a tiny, soft ball.
After some time passed, he realized it needed a name. “What should I call you?” he asked, while carrying it.
It gave a small purring sound, looking at him dead in the eye, “You’re right. I should let you name yourself.”
It gave a tiny nod and jumped out of his arms, running around the darkness, spelling a name. Chaos watched as it wrote letters. It spelt out, A M A D E O.
“Amadeo?” he asked, while the creature gave a deep purring sound, pressing against him.
Chaos looked at the creature, with awe and smiled, “Amadeo… I like it.”
Amadeo looked up with huge blue eyes. Chaos wondered to himself; I wonder what creature it is…?
Amadeo again began spelling out a tiny three letter word, C A T.
“You’re a cat…? A male cat?”
Amadeo gave a small nod, purring loudly. Chaos was astounded. He had a cat of his own! A companion. After being lonely for so long, it felt nice to take care of another creature.
Since Amadeo had given Chaos a companionship, he felt the need to give him something. A gift of some kind. Again, Chaos thought long and hard about what his tiny friend might like… Friend? Was that was Amadeo was to Chaos? He smiled again, watching him chase his tiny tail.
He suddenly had a brilliant idea… and he was extremely excited to show his companion.
“Amadeo, Amadeo!” Chaos called out. Amadeo’s ears perked up at the sound of his name. “I know you love to play, so… I’m going to get you a gift!”
He lifted his hands, creating a small almost circular shape. Amadeo crooked his head ever so slightly, questioning with his eyes. Chaos began to grin widely. He grabbed the circular shape and added a colour similar to his tiny friend.
He dropped it at his feet close to Amadeo. Amadeo, intrigued, began sniffing this unknown object. He was in fact, a bit confused as to why his friend was giving him… well, a ball. He gave it a swat. The tiny ball went flying into the darkness. Amadeo began to make soft meowing noises at Chaos.
Chaos, still grinning, asked him, “You want another one?”
Amadeo rubbed against his legs.
“Alright, alright!” Chaos laughed.
And so, Chaos kept creating spherical shapes of different sizes and colours. He grinned, watching them being swatted away by his small companion. He kept creating them, until the dark void was filled with those balls of so many different colours. The place didn’t look lonely anymore. Looking back, Chaos couldn’t believe how long he spent in pure darkness all on his own. He was glad that he created Amadeo and all these spheres.
He suddenly had another brilliant idea. He called his cat to him. Amadeo came, curiously looking at Chaos. What was his friend up to again? Chaos created an arc with his hands, causing so many colours and balls to appear.
“I will call them stars,” he said. “And the entire void will have them.”
He threw them as hard as he could, scattering them. The void, again, began to look full of life.
Amadeo, filled with much curiosity, approached the nearest ball. Chaos had gotten excited, while creating this one.
Amadeo remembered really well what he had told him, “I had a strong feeling to focus on this one. I’m not entirely sure why, but something told me (maybe it’s my inner voice) that this particular ball will be very important.”
He began to meow loudly to catch Chaos’s attention.
Chaos walked over, “What is it, friend?”
Amadeo pointed his bright, pink nose to the green and blue ball. Chaos began grinning again.
Since they were so big, Chaos created a plan to shrink them.
“Come, Amadeo, into my arms, so you can help me create this ball with much more detail,” he said.
Amadeo jumped into his arms. Hugging him tightly, he shrunk them to the size of the ball.
They both looked down seeing the blues and greens mix together. Chaos separated both of the colours, one was called land, and the other sky and water.
Amadeo helped Chaos add different colours on the greens and blues. Yellow, white, red, pink, orange, purple. They watched as all the colours mixed and mingled. Chaos decided to make the colours of different shapes. Circular, triangular, rectangular. Amadeo meowed and began playing with the multiple shapes. Chaos watched his dear friend play. Amadeo swatted them, as if he wanted to push them off the edge.
“Hey!” Chaos said, trying to stop Amadeo from pushing off a weird orange shape. Since he was trying to pick up the orange shape, he missed a white circle.
“Amadeo! Come on! Don’t push them off,” he yelled. Amadeo shrunk back, trying to grab the white circle to make his friend happy again.
But it was too late. The small white circle had escaped from reach. It had paused many miles away. Curious, both Amadeo and Chaos got closer. It almost like it was in orbit with the green and blue ball.
Chaos grinned, “Good job! Now this ball will shine with the glow of the white circle.”
Then he frowned, “We haven’t named these two balls.”
Amadeo began running circles around Chaos.
“Hey!” he laughed. “What are you trying to tell me?”
The little creature pointed his nose towards his masterpiece. While Chaos had been too focused to make sure that Amadeo didn’t drop any shapes into the void, he didn’t notice what he had been trying to create.
“…Earth and the Moon?” he asked. Amadeo began purring loudly, walking around the two balls newly named as Earth and Moon.
“Wow… thank you. You truly are helping me.”
Amadeo looked at him with a look that said quite enough, “Alright, alright. I’m so sorry for doubting you.”
He walked away to play with other shapes, giving Chaos his back.
Chaos looked at Earth in wonder. He didn’t know what else to add. However, it felt like something was missing… He paused, pondering on what to do. He looked at Amadeo, wondering quietly… what if I created another entity? He grabbed the little bit of nothingness left and shaped a body like his. But he added longer hair and a sweet face. He took a deep breath and let go.
Right in front of him was a lovely entity, smiling sweetly at him. She had long, emerald hair and soft brown skin. Chaos felt almost… ashamed. She looked like she belonged in a realm full of sweetness and life.
That was when he knew that she would be the one to create Earth in its entirety.
“H-hello?” Chaos stammered.
She gave him a soft smile, waving shyly. Amadeo was curiously approaching the new entity in front of him. He never knew there was someone else other than his friend. He looked to Chaos for an explanation.
“I believe she’s going to be the one to help us create Earth,” he said to Amadeo. He then turned to the beautiful entity, “What’s your name?”
She gently picked up Amadeo, cradling him in her arms, “I am the one called Azalea.”
Chaos gasped, whispering quietly, “Azalea. What a lovely name.”
She walked towards the ball of greens and blues and looked at all what Chaos had created.
Azalea frowned. The way she frowned, Chaos noticed, looked so soft, almost as if she was full of sweetness and cannot be mad.
“What are these shapes?” she asked him with a pointed look.
“I…” Chaos found it hard to find the proper explanation, “I, well, don’t really know.”
She grabbed the nearest shape and breathed directly on the shape. The shape began to squirm and Amadeo ran out of her arms, afraid.
“It’s alright,” she talked soothingly to him. “It won’t hurt you.”
Chaos watched as it began to take a shape almost like him. Except smaller in every form.
“I am calling this creature, human,” Azalea said, still watching the human slowly take shape in her hands.
Amadeo walked closely and tried to swat it away.
“No!” she softly yelled. “It is very fragile, sweetie. You can play with her after she is finished taking shape.”
“Her?”
She nodded, “She will be the very first human.”
As the human took shape, Chaos felt warm inside. Azalea’s creations were as beautiful as she. He thought once again to himself, if Azalea were able to create beings just like that, could I do that for Amadeo?
The human took huge breaths of air. She looked from Azalea to Chaos to Amadeo.
“Where am I?” she asked with wide eyes.
“You are in a place called Earth. You will watch it flourish into something beautiful, Zera,” Azalea told her with such tenderness in her eyes.
Azalea hovered above Earth, shrinking to Zera’s size. She disappeared for a bit. Chaos watched as all the shapes he created became into something beautiful. Trees, flowers, rivers, oceans, sunsets, sunrises, that’s what everything beautiful was called. Chaos began beaming at the wondrous beauties in front of him. Especially the most precious beauty of all.
Azalea was still busy with creating Earth. She showed Zera all her creations. She told her that the Earth was all hers. That she could do whatever she liked.
Zera was excited, “Will you accompany me?”
Azalea shook her head sadly, “I don’t belong here on Earth. I belong with Chaos and Amadeo in the far cosmos. But never forget how you came to be.”
She blew her a kiss leaving Zera many gifts in her wake. Zera ran, trying to grab onto the goddess when she came face first to a young stranger.
“Hello,” he said with a deeper voice than hers.
“Hi? What’s your name?” she asked with much curiosity.
“I’m Kirabo. Do you know where we are?”
“Earth. I was told by a lovely goddess that this was all ours,” she gestured around with a bright smile.
He returned her smile, “We shall adventure together.”
Kirabo took Zera’s hand and for many years, they travelled alone, discovering the mysteries of Earth. For all those years, the goddess watched. She watched them laugh and smile. Right there and then, she decided that humans were her favourite creation. She created more and more of them until the Earth was populated with many humans.
Finally, Azalea remembered about her two friends, and she went out looking for them. For centuries and centuries, she kept looking. At last, she found Amadeo and Chaos, watching the balls in the universe turn and turn.
“I decided to call them planets,” Chaos explained to Amadeo, not noticing that Azalea was behind him.
Amadeo meowed, curling up into a ball beside him.
“Chaos?” she said softly.
Chaos jumped, scaring Amadeo, who also jumped with him.
He scratched his head with shame, “I didn’t know you were behind me.”
She smiled a bit sheepishly, “I’m sorry for leaving you two alone.”
“It’s alright… look!” He pointed to the small companion who was surrounded with many of his kind. He was the only one out of all the cats that had blue eyes.
“When cats are born, they have blue eyes.” Chaos said with a shine in his eyes. “But as soon as they start growing, their eyes change colour. Except for some. In those cats, that’s where Amadeo’s spirit lies.”
“How do you mean?”
“His life is a short one. He doesn’t live as long as we do… but his spirit never dies.”
He sighed deeply, watching Amadeo play with the other cats, “I’m tired, Azalea.”
She swallowed hard, “What are you saying?”
“All my energy has been spent in creating the universe as it is. I must now rest.”
“No!” she cried. “I barely know you! We never got to meet each other personally.”
Chaos looked deep into her green eyes, “I’m tired, Azalea... Perhaps, we'll meet in a calmer life.”
She sadly smiled, embracing him warmly, "I hope so."
And he closed his eyes. His body began slowly mixing with the universe. All the colours he had created came together one last time, then exploded into even brighter colours.
Azalea watched the colours pour out of her fingers, her body covered in all colours he had given. She began to weep. Her soft tears fell onto the scattered planets, causing different weathers and vegetations to grow. She weeped until all her tears were dried. Her friend… or love, she wasn’t sure, had passed. But he passed away in happiness and peace.
His work has been done and now she must carry his legacy. She picked up all the cats into her arms and brought them to Earth. She left them with the humans she redeemed as the best and trusted would give them a peaceful life. But she stayed with Amadeo. He gave her a feeling she wasn’t sure how to describe. Azalea was sure that if Chaos was there, he would know what to say. She missed him dearly and yet she was the one who deserted him during all those years. Does she regret it? She wasn't sure.
After many years, she was beginning to feel tired. Years earlier, Amadeo had passed causing a super nova, creating a new solar system. She wanted to be with her two loves again. So, she finally let her eyes close.
Her passing caused a huge tremor to happen in the universe. She caused black holes and huge gaps to appear as the universe felt unbalanced without its gods. And because the universe required a god, it created a new one all on its own. And her name was Hope.
