It was a normal day in the playcare, and Theodore Grambell was at school, sitting at one of the tables by himself.
It was break time, and he was working on drawing something.
“Hello Theodore!”
A sweet voice interrupted his concentration.
Theo looks up to see one of the Miss Delights had walked over.
“O-oh, hi Miss.”
Theo says, a little nervous. “Is break time over?”
Delight shakes her head. “Oh no Theo, some other kids had a question for you.”
Theo notices a few kids hiding behind Delight’s skirt.
“What is it?”
He asks.
Delight smiles that permanent cheery smile that never seems to leave her face.
“We were just wondering what you were drawing.”
She asks.
Theo smiles.
“Oh, I’m making something for my mom.”
He says, showing her and the other kids.
It was a scribbly drawing of himself standing near a large purple cat.
The other kids looked at it a bit weird, but Delight smiled gently.
“How lovely!”
She says. “I’m sure your mother will just love it.”
Theo smiles softly.
“I hope so…”
~After school~
After the bell had rung and the students were dismissed for the day, Theo headed over towards home sweet home.
Once he was inside, he made his way towards the back of the house, where he knew most of the bbi experiments slept.
When he finally arrived, the employees who kept watch over the bbis asked what he was doing here.
Theo takes a deep breath.
“Can I see my mom?”
He asks softly.
The employees look at each other, then go to discuss something silently, where he couldn’t hear.
When they walk back, they nod to Theo.
“Okay.”
One says. “You can visit with her for a short while.”
Theo smiles.
“Thank you!”
One of the employees leads him to the cell where she was being kept, slowly opening it, and awaking her from her slumber.
“Alright, make sure to be careful.”
The employee says.
Theo nods.
“I will.”
He says before walking inside.
The employee shuts the door behind him.
Once he’s alone with her, Theo looks at the large cat with a smile.
“Hi mom.”
He says, softly.
The large, bony purple cat slowly walks into the light.
“Hello, kitten…”
She says with her low, whispery voice.
Theo smiles.
“How are you?”
Cathynap leans down.
“Better, now that you’re here.”
She says.
Theo smiles, reaching up for a hug, to which Cathy obliges, gently scooping him up.
“I’ve missed you…”
She says softly.
Theo nuzzles against her.
“I’ve missed you too…”
He says. “I always look forward to bedtime, so I can see you…”
Cathy begins to purr.
“Me too, kitten…”
The two happily snuggled for a while, Theo relishing the feeling of being in his mom’s arms.
Then he remembers the reason he came here.
“Oh!”
He says, gently pulling back.
“I almost forgot, I made you something.”
Cathy gently sets him down. “Oh?”
She says softly. “What is it?”
Theo takes a deep breath, showing her the drawing he’d made of him and her.
Cathy looks at the drawing for a second, Theo anticipating her response.
Then Cathy smiles. (Or tries to.)
“It’s beautiful…”
She says softly. “I love it.”
Theo smiles brightly. “Thanks!”
He says. “I’m glad you like it.”
He looks down.
“The other kids probably thought it was weird…”
Cathy growls a bit.
“Well then those other kids are chopped liver.”
She says.
She leans forward, nuzzling his head gently.
“It doesn’t matter what they think.”
Theo giggles. “That’s right.”
Cathy then lies down, so Theo can snuggle up next to her, wrapping her large tail around him gently.
“I wish we could stay like this forever…”
Theo says.
Cathy gently nuzzles his head. “Me too, Theo…”
It was a wonderful moment.
“I love you, mama.”
Theo says, burying his face in her stomach.
Cathy purrs softly.
“I love you too, kitten.”
They knew that eventually the employees would come and say it was time for him to go, and he’d have to leave… but for now, it was just the two of them.
