Chapter Text
As Sora and the child follow a goat lady named Toriel down the hall in her home, she opens the door to her left open revealing an empty bedroom, "Please use this room and get some shut eye", she offers gesturing to the room. The child walks into the room as Sora follows behind them, "You can use the bed, I'm not feeling too sleepy" he urges them with a smile, his face betraying his words. The kid tugs at his shirt concerned, but Sora pats them on the head, helping them into the bed and tucking them in, "Don't worry, I'll get some rest myself, I promise" he quietly promises as he pats their head as they quickly fall asleep in the bed. A gentle smile crosses his face as he stands up and pads his way back to the door whispering, "I'll protect you, you'll get home safely I promise". As he leaves the room he gently and quietly closes the door behind him, he travels down to the end of the hall and stands before a mirror, for some reason he hears a whisper, "Despite everything, it's still you". Sora walks away back down the hall tearing up, as he approaches the living room he wipes his tears away as he sees Toriel reading a book on the couch. She looks up from her book with suprise, "Ah Sora, I thought you were sleeping",
"No no, the kid needs sleep, I'm not really all that tired, is it okay if I take a seat here?", he asks as he points to the chair.
She nods as she closes her book and Sora takes a seat on the chair, his body melting into the chair as if all the pain and exhaustion start to push forth in his body. "what book are you ready ma'am?" he questions as points to her book. She chuckles at his question, "Please just call me Toriel, and this is a book of snail facts, would you like to hear one?". Sora nods awaiting with baited breath.
"Did you know that snails have a chainsaw-like tongue called a radula?" She reads off from the book looking up at Sora whose eyes are beaming at the fact. "That's so cool, I never even knew snails had tongues!" She bellows out a laugh at Sora's comment, as they continue to chat Sora stares off into the fire as a nostalgic smile crosses his face. Toriel looking worried, "Sora is something wrong?" she inquires.
He snaps back to reality, "Oh no no, I just miss my home, it wasn't as cozy as home here but man my house was comfortable to live in." he sighs as he leans back into the chair. "It's just been so long since I've been home, so many places, so many people" he smiles softly. Toriel observing his facial expressions, "Sora, you look tired dear, are you sure you don't need sleep?" Sora looking over at her, "Nah I'll be fine, I promise". Toriel observing the way he speaks and looks around, "Child, what have you been through? Your eyes look tired". He looks at her surprised before sinking into the plush chair, "Ah well... I've been everywhere, I don't know if you'll believe me". Her concern for him grows as she sits up a bit, "Please tell me Sora, I promise I'll believe you". Sora sighs, "well I'm not from this world, I've been through many other universes after I... accidently destroyed my own". She gasps at his words, "Sweetheart, how have you gotten through all this?" Sora wiping away his tears, "I honestly have no clue, I just kept fighting and fighting through all the worlds, hoping I could get home, hoping I could fix my home and find my husband again". As he continues he regales Toriel of the stories of his journey, stories about his home universe and how it was destroyed, speaking about his battle with the king of curses in modern day Tokyo, eating a demon in the depths of a dungeon along with many more stories. Toriel's face is taken over with sadness of his journey, "You have been through so much". She stands up and pats Sora on the shoulder, "I know what will cheer you up, a fresh baked butterscotch pie". Sora looking up, "That sounds amazing right now, do you mind if I help you out?" Toriel smiles as she walks to the kitchen, "Of course!" Sora follows her to the kitchen and helps her bake the pie.
