Chapter Text
It was one of the spookiest times of the year, halloween! I’m kind of in between headspaces right now. I should be little, but- I’m too interested to see Chuuya panicking about how the agency is coming over to have a little halloween party. He invited them over along with some of his port mafia family. He’s got everything ready, I don’t know why he’s freaking out. I’m nibbling on some chocolate as I watch him running around to make sure it’s all set up. He had a professional decorate his place, it looks really good- a nice mix of scary and friendly for littles. He got a chef to make all the food, a bartender to make and serve drinks for the caregivers. Everything is basically perfect, he even has a projector screen set up on the big window he has to show scary movies. I forgot how much work he puts into these parties.
“Chuuya, it looks fine!” I whined as I leaned back in my seat, dramatically sighing as I finished up my chocolate. He rolled his eyes and shifted a few decorations just enough it was barely noticeable. He’s ridiculous. “Come on! You haven’t even noticed I’m in between right now.” I huffed with a pout, as I crossed my arms.
He stopped instantly and looked over at me, then he looked guilty. He sighs then walks over to me then takes the chocolate out of my hand- I had grabbed another but I guess that was too much. “Alright, come on. How about we get you into your costume? What was it again?” He played dumb as he put on a show about thinking about what it was. “Hmm… I can’t remember.”
I laughed a little, then rolled my eyes. “A pumpkin!” I said as I leaned against him, my head resting on his stomach. He laughed as well then patted my head. I don’t know how he makes me drop so easily, it’s so dumb. It’s like he has a switch and flips it when it’s convenient.
He chuckled, “Ah, that’s right! A cute little baby pumpkin!” He gasped as he finally remembered, he picked me up and made silly noises as he carried me around. “Oooh~ So scary! I’m sure everyone will love your costume!” I laughed as I clung to him, hiding my face against his shoulder. He carried me to my room, and my costume was laid out on my bed for easy access. He hums softly as he helps me change, I was in a bright orange pumpkin costume, I had black and orange sleeves around my arms with black and orange striped leggings, he got some pumpkin themed shoes to put on me as well. Finally he put on the little pumpkin hat, it was the top of the pumpkin to complete the costume. I giggled as I wiggled my feet, I liked the shoes. “Look at you!” He exclaimed as he picked me up again.
Chuuya put me in my playpen so I’d be safe while he got ready next. I hummed as I shook guppy so I could hear the rattle, I giggled as I shook him more to make it louder. It didn’t take too long for Chuuya to get ready, he came out dressed as a farmer. I stared at him then laughed, he looks funny! He chuckled then walked over to me. He asks what I’m laughing at as he boops me on the nose. I squealed as I covered my face with my hands and kicked my feet excitedly. He picks me up then sets me on a blanket he had in front of the large projector screen. He puts on some halloween cartoons for me while he finishes up any loose ends for the party. Only ten minutes passed before the first guest showed up- oh! It’s Kunikida! I gasped then crawled over to him.
“Kuni!” I shouted, sitting by his feet then hugged his legs. He chuckled then picked me up. He holds me in his arms as I cling to him, I see he is dressed up as a Vampire. Ooh! Spooky! I smiled and reached up to poke his fangs, he grabbed my hand and stopped me. He says he doesn’t want me hurting my finger- even if they’re fake. “Kuni- Chuu grew me, cause I a- a pum’kin!” I explained as I pointed at myself then at Chuuya. I had to make sure everyone understood!
“Wow! What a cute little pumpkin he grew.” He cooed as he ruffled my hair, then looked around the place. He tells Chuuya he did really well, it looked nice. Chuuya tried to say he could have done better, but Kunikida disagreed. “It has enough for everyone, even the littles. You thought of everything.” He pointed out as he set me back down on the blanket I was originally on so I could watch more cartoons.
“Well, your checklist helped. Normally the process is chaotic- I guess you being so organized worked out.” Chuuya pointed out, then thanked him. They both sat down on the couch after pouring themselves some drinks. Chuuya probably had wine, Kunikida probably just had a regular fruit punch. I switched between watching the cartoon and them. They were talking while also glancing at me once in a while to make sure I’m okay.
As time passed, I was eating a small bowl of chips. Kunikida had me on his lap in case I choked. Chuuya was holding my drink as the two kept talking. I stopped listening and just enjoyed my food. I’d lean over to use my sippy cup and drink my juice. Then the doorbell rang. Chuuya got up and handed my cup over to Kunikida to hold. I watched Chuuya answer the door as I munched on some chips. I saw Kouyou, who had arrived with Yosano, who brought Atsushi and Ranpo. They walk inside, Yosnao smiles when she sees me.
“We’re here! Everyone else is on the way- they had us bring these two little gremlins so it’d be easier.” Yosano explained as she headed straight for the alcohol. Kouyou rolled her eyes in amusement then started talking with Chuuya as the other two looked around. I leaned against Kunikida as I grabbed a handful of chips and shoved them in my mouth, most falling onto my lap.
Yosano was dressed as a witch, Kouyou was a pirate, Ranpo wasn’t dressed up- he just wore his usual clothes. Was Atsushi a ghost? He only had a white sheet on him with holes cut out for eyes. I sipped my juice then tugged on Kunikida’s sleeve. “Kuni- I want more chips” I said softly as I showed him my empty bowl. He chuckled then shook his head.
“You already had a bowl, if you fill up on chips you won’t have room for candy. Plus you might get a stomach ache.” He pointed out, and made a good argument. I still wasn’t happy! I pouted a little, until the doorbell rang again. Oh, more people are showing up. I watched to see who had come next. It was Kyoka with Kenji, Fukuzawa, Junichiro and Naomi. Right after them it was Mori with Akutagawa, Elise, Gin, Tachihara, Hirotsu and Higuchi. Wow- it’s so crowded! Chuu is lucky his home is so big.
Everyone was dressed up in all different costumes, It was fun! Kunikida carried me around so I could say hi to everyone. I made sure to explain my costume with Chuuya’s, I wanted to make sure everyone understood! I knew it was a good idea to tell them cause they all seemed surprised. Chuuya walks over and kisses the top of my head and laughs. “I’m sure they all know, baby.” I huffed and shook my head.
“Uh- uh! I need to make sure!” I explained then reached for him, he smiled then took me from Kunikida- who wipes my face clean after his hands were free. Guess I had cheese dust on my face. He wiped my hands clean next- oh guess my hands were dirty too. “Kuni said no more chips, d’nt want a tummy ache!” I copied what he said, I also copied the face he makes when he’s lecturing. Chuuya laughs then looks over at Kunikida, who looks annoyed. He said that’s not how he speaks or looks.
“I mean- you kind of do.” Chuuya teased, then handed him a cup full of some liquid that smelled funny. He nudged him as he walked by. “Drink a little, let loose for once. It’s a party- which is at my house so you don’t have to worry about everyone.” He pointed out, Kunikida hesitated before taking a sip.
The party went on for a while, a few people ended up falling asleep- Chuuya said something about drinking too much. Mori had called for someone to pick up his people while Fukuzawa had someone pick up his. Only a few stayed. Kunikida, Kouyou, Akutagawa, Gin and Atsushi. Chuuya told Fukuzawa he didn’t mind watching Atsushi for the night since it seemed everyone at the agency who was qualified to watch him was- I forgot the word. Chuuya and Kunikida were putting me and Atsushi to bed, but I didn’t want to sleep in my room- I wanted to stay with them!
“We’d love that, but- The adults are watching a scary movie. You’re too young to handle it.” Kunikida explained as he kneels down by the bed. I whined as I kicked off my pumpkin shoes in frustration. I wanted to stay with them! Chuuya helps Kunikida change me since I was cranky. Atsushi was already tired and laying in bed.
“Minnow, babies are too young to watch scary movies. We can spend time together tomorrow. How’s that sound?” Chuuya asked as he brushed out my hair with his fingers. I whined and moved away, pushing his hand off me with both of mine.
Kunikida sighed then looked over at Chuuya, “You can go watch, I can sit with them. I don’t mind.” Chuuya didn’t seem too happy about that, he tried to argue they could probably get me to sleep but- Kunikida said it was fine again. “I’m not really a fan of horror movies anyways, so- go ahead.”
“Alright, call if you need anything.” He muttered as he left the room after saying goodnight to everyone. I watched him leave, I was kind of upset- but at least I had Kunikida.
He read us some books, made sure we had water, gave me my guppy and made sure Atsushi was comfortable. It didn’t take long for Atsushi to fall asleep, but I was kind of hyped up on sugar. Kunikida looked like he was getting tired. I watched as he started to doze off as he read another book, Atsushi was sleeping- so maybe when Kuni falls asleep I can find Chuu! It took maybe ten minutes until Kunikida was sleeping in his seat. He loosely held the book in his hand, it was on the verge of falling. I carefully climbed out of bed, my legs were wobbly and weak. I sat on the floor then crawled quietly out of the room. I peeked out and saw the place was dark except for the projector screen which was showing a movie. I crawled closer to see what they were watching. That’s when I saw some girl crawling out of a tv- what? Oh! I gasped seeing her face, I whined and quickly crawled back to my room. I tried to get in bed, but it was hard- I didn’t want to be on the floor! Not with that scary lady! I started to cry as I tugged on the bottom of Kunikida’s pants. He didn’t wake up right away so I tugged harder. He jumped awake then quickly looked down, he picked me up the instant he saw me.
“What happened?” He asked softly as he held me on his lap, I cling to him tightly and hide my face. I kicked my legs as I sobbed, I didn’t want to be close to the ground- I tried lifting my legs up but I wasn’t strong enough. “Alright, Alright- here.” He carried me to the bed and sat on it with me. Before he could ask what’s wrong again, I saw someone in the doorway. I screamed and hid behind Kuni.
It woke Atsushi up and the person had come running in, “What happened!?” Oh- it’s Chuuya. As soon as I knew who it was, I wanted him to hold me. I cling to him until he picks me up. Kunikida was now trying to calm Atsushi down- he looked scared, being woken up by screams.
“I-I’m not sure. Maybe a nightmare?” Kunikida tries to figure it out, but that wasn’t it! There’s a scary lady who climbs out of Tv’s! Atsushi was clinging to Kunikida as his body was trembling from trying not to cry.
“Alright- I’ll tell everyone to go. I’ll handle Dazai while you handle Atsushi. Okay?” Chuuya offered, Kunikida agreed. Chuuya picks me up then goes to carry me out of the room, I start to freak out. I started squirming and kicking- I didn’t want to leave the room and see that creepy lady again! I start screaming no and try to grab something so he can’t make me leave.
Maybe they’re right- kids shouldn’t be watching horror movies meant for adults.
