Standing outside the door, hand raised, he feels silly. The crew had returned to the Octopod a few hours before, adrenaline from the day dwindling fast. Peso had swept the Captain to the medbay to do a proper examination, before rewrapping his head and putting him on bedrest. The crew had dispersed to their respective quarters to rest as well. He couldn’t sleep though, tail swishing back and forth as he tried. It was doing that now too, tension from the day past still there.
He sighed before opening the door, a soft fwish as it opened. Moonlight trickled through the window of the medbay, casting its occupants in a soft glow. In a bed off to the side lay the Captain sleeping, head wrapped in bandages. Kwazii quietly padded over to the side of the bed, able to hear the soft breathing of his sleeping friend. Breathing another sigh, turning towards the door, before a quiet groan could be heard. His ears flicked, before turning back to the Captain, who had sat up slightly and was rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “Kwazii? Is that you?”
“Yeah Capt’n. I was just… checking on you is all.” In a normal occasion he probably would have asked him what was wrong, but he just hummed, slowly lowering himself back onto the bed. The Captain softly patted the bed. An offer. Kwazii slowly walked over again, before sitting on the edge of the bed. Carefully he lowered himself, his head resting on the Captain and his legs hanging off the bed. Looking up at the ceiling he breathed in, and out, a shaky breath escaping. The Captain moved his arm, positioning it over Kwazii, a reassurance. A silent “I’m ok.”
Soft snores slowly filled the room, finally being able to sleep. And if they found the rest of the crew sleeping in there as well, then at least they were together.
