“I am sorry, friend Stark,” Thor says. “I spoke with Asgard’s healers, but even they cannot repair such damage so long after the injury was inflicted.”
Tony slumps and runs a hand over his face. “Thanks for asking, Thor,” he says; it’s hard to keep the despair out of his voice. Stephen is getting more desperate every day. Tony’s not sure what he’s more afraid of: what Stephen will do to himself in his attempts to fix his hands, or what he’ll do when he realizes that they can’t be fixed.
“One healer suggested approaching Earth’s own sorcerers,” Thor goes on. “They are likely not as advanced in the healing arts, but they would know your people better.”
“Earth doesn’t have sorcerers,” Tony frowns.
Thor shakes his head. “They are only hidden. Search for a place called Kamar-Taj. Other Midgardians have ventured there and returned greatly changed, the healer said.”
Kamar-Taj. It sounds like a wild goose chase, but if magic is real—and Tony knows that it is, much as he might wish otherwise—then why shouldn’t Earth have their own wizards? Even if it’s nothing more than a pilgrimage… Maybe that alone could help Stephen.
It was worth a shot.
