My heart will be with you

~ For my amazing and supportive friend, who always helps me when I’m out of ideas for this ship! ~ awww <333
The samurai stumbled a few times as he ran, like his life depended on it, to the top floor of Stormterror’s crumbling lair.
Please, please, please, his mind begged.
When Kazuha finally reached the top, Beidou was only a few yards away, staring into the heart of a tall, bright blue beacon that shot through the center of the tower.
Breathless, Kazuha called out to his love.
The captain turned slowly, her face unreadable.
“Beidou, w-we have to go. This place is falling apart.”
“… I can’t.”
It hit Kazuha like a knife to the stomach. “What?” He whispered, his voice hollow.
Beidou continued, but she stood still, her voice steady.
“Kazuha, there are things I have to know. Things that—“ she didn’t finish her sentence. Kazuha’s face was painted with fear and agony. He stepped closer to her, until his hands rested in hers. The tears began to fall silently onto the hard stone under their feet.
“Beidou..” he choked out, “you could die.”
“I won’t. C’mon, I slayed the almighty Haishan for Archons’ sake!” She laughed, but the sound was forced.
“Why can’t I come with you?”
“…”
Kazuha’s eyes went wide and he was angry now. “You can’t!” He yelled.
“Kazuha,” Beidou squeezed his hands. “Please let me do this. I’ll be alright.” The back of her hand gently stroked his cheek to wipe the crystal-like tears.
Kazuha made himself look into her eyes, her beautiful ruby eyes. He leaned forward, his heart filling with every feeling he’d ever had toward Beidou. His lips smashed into hers with as much power as they would ever use, his hands still squeezing hers tight. The captain kissed back similarly. The wind whipped around them fiercely, sealing them together as well as the kiss. Beidou pulled back first, but her eyes were starting to glitter.
She turned, started heading back towards the beacon.
“Wait.” Kazuha said, softly but firmly. He took her hands again and held them to his chest. He barely managed to get out the next words…
“You are taking my heart with you. Promise me you’ll bring it back.”
Beidou’s eyes widened and for the first time her voice shook as she said, “I promise.”
Then she was gone.
A sharp, strong force smashed into Kazuha’s chest, and his knees started shaking uncontrollably. Without warning, he slid to the ground, unconscious.
{…}
When he awoke, the sun was slowly making its way toward the horizon, sending yellow and pink streaks across the sky. He was lying in Xiangling’s arms, her eyes were wet. She gasped when he saw his face.
“Kazuha! Oh, you’re alright!”
Kazuha sat up gingerly. The empty hole in his chest remained.
She wasn’t here.
“You’re covered with scratches.. C’mon, let’s get you back to the city. Deaconess Barbara can fix you up.”
Xiangling, seeing that Kazuha could barely lift himself off the stones, slid one arm around his waist and lifted his to sit on her shoulders for support.
As they made their way back to Mondstadt City, neither said a word. Kazuha appreciated that.
After the session with the Deaconess and a delicious dinner, he went straight to bed.
{…}
They were seated at a small two person table in front of Good Hunter’s. Kazuha ate his breakfast slowly, not wanting to upset his stomach. The emptiness in his chest was still there, and Xiangling caught his expression.
“Hey, she’s gonna be okay! Beidou is very strong.”
Kazuha nodded and took another small bite.
Then the empty hole felt slightly filled.
Kazuha stood up fast. A little too fast, because he was dizzy for a moment.
“Umm.. Kazuha?” Xiangling looked at him with a puzzled look on her face.
“She’s okay.” Saying the words filled the emptiness a little more.
The chef’s eyes lit up. “Then go! Get outta here!”
Kazuha bolted, running almost faster than he did the previous day. The wind swirled around him and lifted him off the ground slightly, causing him to go even faster.
He ran up the stairs and slanted chunks of broken wall until he finally reached the top of the tower in Stormterror’s lair. He froze, one hand on the wall for support.
Beidou was there, huge claymore in hand, her face smudged with gray stone dust. There were little cuts on her arms, but nothing worth worrying about.
He walked slowly toward her, his eyes never leaving hers. One hand rested on her cheek, he kissed her. His lips had never fit so perfectly between hers, as though it were a puzzle finally being solved. Beidou’s lips were as soft and warm as always as her claymore dropped to the ground and her arms rested on the back of his neck. His hands traced her spine as they made their way down and settled around her waist. After pulling away, they rested their foreheads against each other’s and stood there like that for several minutes, just feeling each other’s warmth and touch. Kazuha’s empty hole vanished completely; not as if it had healed, but more like it had never been there to begin with.
Kazuha was the first to break the pleasant silence, although his eyes remained closed and he refused to move.
“I missed you.” He whispered.
“Me too.”
Kazuha stepped back just slightly and asked, “Did you find what you were looking for?”
She nodded.
“Was it as you expected?”
Beidou snorted. “Well, no. But nothing’s really how you expect them, yeah?”
Kazuha laughed, and he realized how long it had been since he did that. “I guess so,” he paused for a moment. “So what did you find?”
Beidou smiled. “Well I found the history I wanted but I also found..” she reached into her pocket (uhhh does she have pockets idk just go with it) and took out a small silver band. “This ring.”
It was beautiful. The ring itself was a band, but a braid-like design decorated the middle.
“It’s beautiful. What are you going to do with it?”
Beidou laughed. “Give it to you. What else would I do with it?”
Everything spun as Kazuha processed her words.
Beidou chuckled. “Dizzy yet?”
“Just a little.” He lied, flushing.
“Hey! Don’t get all red on me now!” She laughed again.
He looked at the ring once more. “Thank—“
Beidou put her finger on his lips. “Don’t thank me.”
Kazuha gently lifted her hand away and kissed her instead.
“Hey!” She said, grinning, after he pulled back. “How many times are you gonna kiss me while we’re here?”
“Oh, sorry.”
Beidou rolled her eyes. “It’s alright. Besides, I like kissing you.” Kazuha blushed again and Beidou laughed. “C’mon let’s get outta here.” She said, her hand entwined with his.
“…Beidou?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
Beidou grinned and kissed his forehead. “I love you, too.”
