Chapter Text
The sun shimmered on the gentle waves as Toro and Kuro padded along the sandy shore, their little tails flicking behind them. Toro had a big straw hat perched on his head (slightly too big—it drooped over his eyes), and Kuro, of course, had his signature shades and a smug grin.
“Race you to the water!” Toro chirped suddenly, dashing forward, little paws kicking up sand.
“Hah! You’re on, Toro!” Kuro smirked and bolted after him.
Toro squealed with laughter as he hopped into the shallows, splashing wildly. Kuro caught up quickly, sending a big wave of water toward Toro with a sweep of his paw.
Toro let out a dramatic gasp. “Kuro! That’s unfair!”
Kuro snickered, crossing his arms proudly. “Told ya — you’re too slow, buddy.”
Pouting (but smiling under it), Toro cupped his paws and flung a small splash back at Kuro. It smacked Kuro right in the chest, drenching him.
“Oi!” Kuro blinked, faux-offended. “Now you’ve done it, you little rascal!”
Before Toro could dart away, Kuro tackled him gently into the shallow water, both of them tumbling and laughing. They ended up in a tangle of paws, sand, and splashes — tails flicking playfully.
For a moment, they both lay there, breathless and giggling, water lapping around them.
Kuro propped himself up on his elbows and gave Toro a teasing grin. “You’re lucky you’re cute, y’know. Otherwise, I’d splash you ten times worse.”
Toro beamed, cheeks pink. “And you’re lucky I like you… even if you cheat sometimes!”
Kuro rolled his eyes with a smirk, but his tail flicked fondly. He sat up and reached out, gently adjusting Toro’s droopy straw hat so it sat properly on his head.
“Yeah, yeah. C’mon. Let’s get some shaved ice before you get salty for real.”
Toro smiled so brightly it could’ve rivaled the sun itself. As they padded back up the beach side by side — tails occasionally brushing — the playful splashes were forgotten, replaced with soft glances and the quiet comfort of each other’s company.
