Work Text:
There was a large lump laying idle on the bed. Locks of purple hair peeked out from the covers, though face remained hidden.
"Taking another nap?" A concerned voice called out, yet received no reply.
"Mayoi-senpai...?"
The voice got closer, followed by something weighing down the bed by his legs. The blanket was gently tugged, pulled from the sleeper's face. After taking a moment to adjust to the light, Mayoi blankly stared. Not at the one who awoke him, but into nothingness. He stared off into the distance, without a word.
"You really are tired, huh..." Hiiro pouted.
Mayoi had been sleeping an unusual amount during the past month or so. In fact, the only time he got out of bed was to eat or use the bathroom.
"I'm getting worried." Hiiro admitted.
"...." Mayoi opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He didn't know how to respond. Aside from apologizing for existing and being such a bother. Voicing his self-loathing thoughts wouldn't help alleviate his worry, anyway.
Mayoi promptly shut his mouth, and rolled over onto his side, hoping to become invisible.
Unfortunately, it didn't work like that. Hiiro could still see him. He was still troubled.
"Please tell me what's wrong." The redhead calmly requested, and patiently awaited an answer.
"...nghh..." Mayoi made a sound to force his voice out. "...I... don't.... know..."
Hiiro placed a hand on his partner's back, rubbing in a comforting motion as he continued to listen.
"I just... I don't know. I... I don't wanna lay here anymore..." He replied in a quiet, helpless tone.
"Then let me help you up." Hiiro offered his hand, but it was not taken.
"...I can't."
"Why not?"
"...I don't... have... the mental energy..."
Hiiro paused, frowning. Then he got an idea.
"How about we cuddle?" He offered, knowing that doing so always lifted his senpai's spirits.
"...You... don't have to waste your time doing that..." Mayoi said, causing a sharp pain in his own heart.
Hiiro got closer, gazing directly into Mayoi's eyes with a serious expression.
"We've talked about this already. Me spending time with you is not a waste. I do it because I choose to, and because I love you."
"...O-Okay." Mayoi hesitantly agreed, although it was still hard for him to internally accept.
Hiiro crawled into bed and under the covers, quick to embrace the other in a tight hug.
Mayoi lazily dangled his arms around his neck, nuzzling closer with a sigh.
"Does this help?" The redhead asked, planting a kiss on his forehead.
"...Yeah." Mayoi replied positively, however, it didn't sound very convincing. He was more than likely only saying so to make Hiiro stop worrying. A tactic he employed often. Often enough for Hiiro to have picked up on it.
"Please..." He begged. "Let me know what I can do to help you."
A minute of silence passed. It was uncomfortable, for both of them.
"I'm sorry..." The older one closed his eyes, resting his head against the other's shoulder. "It's just depression. It's normal. It's not your fault. I'm sorry for being like this..."
"No..." Hiiro kissed Mayoi's lips softly, placing a hand on his cheek. "Don't be sorry. I'm sorry I can't do more. At the very least, I'm here for you. We can lay here together. That's better than being alone, right?"
"...Yes..." Mayoi answered more honestly. Despite the guilt, it really did feel better to have his boyfriend by his side.
