Work Text:

The group quietly sits next to the empty fire pit. Misty is raking leaves for whatever reason, Tai and Van chopping wood together. It makes Laura Lee smile to herself, it’s a one person job but those two are never far apart. She used to tease Van back at home about it, Van would just roll her eyes and groan, sometimes telling her to shut up. They were not as secretive as they thought.

Through the woods there is the sound of footsteps and a twig cracking. Travis and Nat emerge from the brush, still, no food. It’s obvious something is going on between them so the girls start whistling. Some of the girls ooo as well.

“Natalie and Travis sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N—“ she is cut off by Lottie, who is playfully smirking.

“I think they were doing a bit more than kissing.” It causes more giggles throughout the group. Laura Lee is happy for them. Being able to find some happiness out here. Laura Lee looks over to Lottie, and it strikes her how badly she wants to find something similar with her.

“Hey Nat, what are you and Flex hunting for out there exactly?” Mari is wearing her signature smirk as she asks. Akilah is behind her braiding her hair.

“I hear it’s beaver season!” Van shouts out and the girls laugh. Nat doesn’t seem to mind. She is smiling as well. Travis however looks like he wishes the ground would swallow him.

“Haha. Sit and spin assholes.” Nat flips them all off, turning to make sure everyone sees it. They keep giggling.

“Is this why we don’t have any food?” The light hearted atmosphere dies, and is quickly replaced by dread. “‘Cause you’ve been too busy running for mayor of pound town”

It’s harsh, and Laura Lee really doubts that they have gone that far. But Jackie isn’t wrong either. They are hungry and the two people responsible for bringing in protein are.. well.. definitely making out instead of hunting. Nat tries to play it off, smiling at first but half way through her sentence she gets pissed off.

“Eh, go fuck yourself?” Natalie furrows her eyebrows and frowns.

“I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. Nat’s always down for a good time, right?” Jackie takes a few steps forward.

“I can’t magically conjure a deer, Jackie.” Nat strides forward as well, it's now a competition. “But keep talking shit. I’ll find something to shoot.”

“Oh wow. Oh, you are soo tough.” Jackie takes another step forward trying to get in Nat’s face. “I’m not scared of you, burn out.”

“No. You’re jealous.” Jackie looks like she almost wants to laugh, but Nat continues. “‘Cause you’re an up tight, prudish little bitch.”

Tai comes between them, pushing Nat away. “Hey, knock it off.” Tai looks between the two of them. “Both of you.”

Nat and Travis walk away while Jackie flips them off and goes back into the cabin. Everyone stays quiet until they are all gone.

“Well that killed the mood.” Lottie mutters as she turns back and looks at Laura Lee.

“Yeah, that was..  awkward.” Robin says, looking like she was tearing up. Robin didn’t really like all the arguing.

“I think someone needs to get laid.” Britt says and Robin and Lottie giggles quietly.  Laura Lee smiles as she sinks back into her thoughts of what it would be like to kiss Lottie.

___________

Hours later Lottie is alone with Laura Lee by the fire. They were sitting side by side on a log as the fire cracked before them. The sun began to set and most of the girls had retreated to the warmth of the cabin. Lottie didn’t want to leave yet, she had begun to feel drawn to Laura Lee. Stronger than before the crash.

She knows having feelings for the one religious girl on your women’s soccer team is a recipe for disaster but she can’t stop herself. Laura Lee brings her a sense of comfort and when someone needs it she is genuinely there to be helpful. Even if her ideas are sometimes not fully thought through.

“Lottie,” Laura Lee’s voice is soft and curious. “What did you mean before? When you said ‘a bit more than kissing’?”

“Oh you know, like second base, maybe not quite that but um. They were definitely making out.” Lottie can feel her face begin to heat up as Laura Lee tilts her head.

“How does making out differ from kissing? And what’s considered second base?” Her face burns because why the hell is she having this conversation with Laura Lee of all people. The dimming fire has nothing on Lottie’s cheeks right now.

“Oh you know, like um.. I guess it’s like kissing but more..” Laura Lee just smirks at her, she wonders if the blonde can see right through her. “It’s more intense and lasts longer.”

“Is that second base?” Lottie is having major problems holding eye contact while talking about this. So she stares into the fire, it low but still burning.

“Sometimes, second base is more touching. You are usually making out when you go to second base.” Laura Lee hums and Lottie prays that if there is a god he will let Laura Lee be satisfied with those answers.

“Have you ever gone to second base with someone?” Her voice is so smooth Lottie can feel herself folding. She can barely hold her voice steady.

“When did you become so damn curious about this stuff?” She looks at Laura Lee, she knows her face has to be red, she can feel the blush everywhere, her cheeks, her ears, the back of her neck.

“I’m just asking, sorry if I overstepped.” She smiles softly. Lottie smiles back and Laura Lee rubs her back. When did she get so touchy?

“No, no it’s fine.” She breathes in and out. “I have not, I’ve only really just kissed a few guys at parties. They didn’t mean much.”

“Were they any good?”

“Have you met boys at parties? No, they were pretty bad.” Lottie asks before she can truly think about how the answer is gonna affect her. “Have you ever kissed anyone?”

“No,” Laura Lee shakes her head but she doesn’t seem disappointed.

“You should save it for someone who deserves it.” Lottie means it too. She just wants to see Laura Lee happy even if she has to jealously watch from the side.

“Why? It’s just a kiss.” Laura Lee bites her lip like she is trying to hold in a laugh. It's so damn cute it leaves an ache in Lottie’s chest.

“I dunno, I just think that you deserve it to be special.” Laura Lee giggles and scooches closer to her on the log.

“That’s so nice, Lot.” She reaches and pushes a strand of Lottie hair behind her ear. “I actually have an idea of who I want it to be.”

“Oh? R-Really? Someone back home?” Lottie is trying not to be overly hopeful. This could have nothing to do with her. Laura Lee sighs.

“Lottie.”

“Yes?”

“Don’t play dumb.” She turns so she is facing Lottie and then Laura Lee just fucking stares at her lips. “You know what I want.”

“Are you sure?” Lottie puts her hands on the blonde's waist, even now she hesitates. She doesn’t want to be wrong, to overstep.

“Yes.” And that’s all Lottie needs and she surges forward to connect their lips. Laura Lee loosely wraps her arms around Lottie’s neck. It’s a sweet kiss but Lottie pulls away. Laura Lee slowly opens her eyes, face scrunched in confusion.

“Why did you stop?”

“I didn’t want to overstep. I mean you were just asking me about making out and—“

“Lottie. Sweetheart.” Laura Lee is smiling so wide and being called sweetheart makes her feel weightless. “I was messing with you. I wasn’t born yesterday.”

“Well then.” Lottie rolls her eyes but she is smiling too. “Really know how to get under my skin.”

“I’ve seen people reach second base in the hallway at school.” Lottie laughs and Laura Lee is quick to join her. Laura Lee then moves so she is sitting in Lottie’s lap, her arms snaking right back to where they were.

“So forward.” Lottie holds Laura Lee’s waist and smiles at her.

“And you like it.”

“Allegedly.” Laura Lee just leans in and kisses her again. She can feel Laura Lee smile into the kiss. Their lips meet over and over again. She swears her body is on fire, she knows the temperature has dropped outside but she can’t feel it. Laura Lee’s lips are so soft against hers and Laura Lee moves to cup her face as they continue to make out. It’s intoxicating and Lottie doesn’t want to stop. She sucks Laura Lee's bottom lip and the other girl lets out a soft hum which sends Lottie’s head spinning. She moves her hands down to the blonde's hips. She can’t tell if it’s the kiss or lack of oxygen that is making her light headed.

“Jesus fucking Christ!” The two girls pull away so Laura Lee almost falls backwards. Jackie is standing on the porch with her arms crossed. “Is everyone just hooking up now?”

“It’s— we were just—“

“You shouldn’t take the lord's name in vain like that.” The two girls speak at the same time and then laugh at each other’s responses.

“Oh because that is sooo holy.” Jackie just gestures in their general area. It's a fair statement. She knows they are both blushing, their lips are probably red too, not to mention Laura Lee is literally in her lap. Lottie moves her hands back up to her waist like it makes them look any more innocent.

“Well, I am devoted.” Laura Lee jokes and Jackie groans. Lottie can’t help but smile as the pride fills her chest.

“Ugh, whatever. Just come inside. I don’t know if you noticed but the fire went out.”

“Okay, we will be there in a second.” Lottie says to Jackie.

“Yeah, okay.” Jackie rolled her eyes and went back into the cabin. Laura Lee gets up first and Lottie is quick to follow. Lottie smiles and interlocks their fingers. Laura Lee places a quick kiss on her cheek and leads her inside.
