Family Brunch

Summary:

Just a usual breakfast for the Takakura/Ayase family

Notes:

Yeah...so much for Ringo being a oneshot. This child is running around in my head rent free.

That and...c'mon. Ken and Momo as parents. I dont see enough of it, and I'm fixing that, dang it!

Work Text:

Seiko Ayase loved her family. She may seem a bit surly and cold, along with a resting bitch face, but she loves deeply and loves hard. Even when her and Momo had fought, and hadn't spoken for far too long, she loved her. She'd love her family no matter the handful and no matter the size.

So when her family grew, she just loved it even more.

Seiko was so sure that her mess of a granddaughter would end up with some dirt bag, a fear that all but seemed to be confirmed when she brought home her first boyfriend. She couldn't chase that little punk out of the house fast enough. Yet, this was Momo, so she knew the trouble was far from over.

Getting abducted by aliens and coming home with a geeky boy who got cursed by a Yokai wasn't on the list though. She had to admit, that was surprising.

Just as surprising as them falling in love.

Not as surprising was the marriage.

Seiko was beyond happy for Momo. And honestly? She loved her new grandson-in-law. Ken was a loving, devoted, and kind man who cared deeply. The guy even helped her cook! She very much approved. Seiko didn't even hesitate to invite them to move in with her. They could make the house bigger. It's been needing work anyway. Besides, they helped with work and she liked days off.

Today, though, she was giving them a day off. Marriage can come with some with ups, downs, and surprises. All of which can be very exhausting. And as Seiko Ayase cooked her family breakfast, she smiled as she heard their surprise come down the stairs.

Slow and careful, each step climbed down with the upmost care.

Tha-thump

Tha-thump

Tha - thump

After a good two minutes, Seiko heard a much louder thump at the bottom of the stairs, followed by a flurry of bubbly giggles. "You're gonna be just like your mother, huh? All scrapes and bruises." Seiko called out to the little tot as she crawled across the floor and towards her great grandmother. Seiko turned her gaze down, smiling at the joyful little bundle by her feet. "G'morning, Ringo. Got past the baby gate again, huh? You're gonna kill your parents at this rate." Seiko's tone was far from scolding though. She simply knelt down and scooped her great granddaughter up in one arm as she continues to cook with the other.

Once Ringo was hoisted up, she began to babble endlessly to her great grandmother, tossing in a word or two she actually knew. While the "conversation" was incoherent, Seiko still nodded and hummed along, chiming in with the occasional "Uh-huh? Oh really? Yeah, no, that's what I say too, but your mom just doesn't listen to me."

Despite the lack of proper understanding from the other side of the conversation, Ringo clearly enjoyed Seiko's input.

The sweet moment between the oldest and youngest generation of the family was interrupted by muffled, panicked shouting, followed by the sound of footsteps from someone practically flying down the stairs. Seiko didn't even bother looking over her shoulder as Momo slid into the kitchen, letting out a shuddering sigh of relief at the sight of Ringo safe and sound in Seiko's hold.

"This kid is gonna be the death of me…"

"Oh, so just like you then?"

Momo rolled her eyes, scoffing with a smile as she strolled toward her grandmother, smiling warmly as Ringo squealed with delight at the sight of her mother. "Oh please…at least I didn't constantly jail break like this one does." She scooped Ringo out of Seiko's arm, letting her get back to cooking. "I'm surprised you let us sleep in like this though. You're usually pulling us out of bed by now " Momo smiled, cooing at her baby girl as she leaned in to place wet, drooly kisses on her mama.

"Yeah, well, lets just say I heard that one running around at about three in the morning, and I felt generous as a result."

Momo sighed heavily, walking out of the kitchen and into the adjacent tatami room, sitting at the low table Seiko had already set out. "I appreciate it…" Momo gave her daughter a scowl, trying to be intimidating and scolding. "You little butt! Mommy and daddy don't have your energy, ya know! We're a couple of old coots now and need our sleep!" However, Ringo clearly had no sympathy to her mother's plight and just giggled in response to her mama's silly face. Momo just sighed heavily as result, leaning her head back dramatically. "I swear….This kid can get away with murder." Seiko cackled, a smile on her face as she plated the omelets she made.

"Well, then let's really hope she takes after four-eyes more than you. I'm pretty sure I'd have to hide a few bodies if you didn't have such good self control."

Momo scoffed, feigning insult. "Says the woman who tried to kill just about every boy I brought through here! My poor Ken included!"

"In her defense, I waaaas kind of possessed?"

Momo lit up, smiling brightly as the love of her life strolled over, happily taking a spot beside his wife and daughter. "There's my girls…~" He muttered sweetly, pulling both Momo and Ringo close, planting loving kisses on their heads. Ringo wiggled out of her mother's arms, crawling over onto her father's lap. Ken beamed, lifting her up in his arms happily. "How's the apple of my eye, hmm?~" Ringo squealed with joy, babbling and laughing happily. Momo smiled at the sight, feeling her heart swell with love for her little family. But Momo wouldn't be Momo if she didn't have her sass.

"Nine months in my womb, making me suffer….and she come's out a daddy's girl. I can't believe I've been betrayed by my own offspring."

Seiko placed breakfast down on the table, even placing a smaller plate with a smaller serving for Ringo. "Well I guess we don't have to worry about your spawn being a serial killer then." The look of shock and confusion on Ken's face broke Momo, making her bust out laughing as her husband sputtered.

"W-what?! What were you two talking about while I was getting up?!" Ken held his daughter protectively to his chest now. "S-she'd never! She's an angel!"

Seiko rolls her eyes and sits down at the low table herself with her own breakfast. "Calm down, four-eyes. We don't have to worry about Ringo contemplating murder at least for another decade."

Momo spoke up before Ken could speak again. "Yeah, and like, at least double that before world domination."

Both women laughed as Ken squawked out "She would not!" Momo took Ringo now, holding her up to his face. "Ken, my love, but does this look like the face of mercy to you? What good law abiding child keeps their parents up past three AM?" Ken stared at his wife, an unamused expression on his face before settling his gaze on their daughter, who is currently gumming on her own foot. Ken just sighed, relenting a bit. "I guess that's always a chance…"

"See? Seeing reason!"

"I mean, being related to you two-"

Momo was quick to place their daughter down just to get in her husband's face. "HAH?! Want to say that again?!" Ken just grinned, laughing as he wrestled back his wife's hands. "See? See?! This is what I mean! I weep for any person who crosses our girl with genes like yours!"

Seiko watched on with a smile, which quickly turned into a grin as she noticed how Ringo crawled over to sit on her lap instead. "Yeah, your parents are idiots…but you know? They're the good kind." Ringo cooed, happily sitting with her great grandmother. Despite the yelling and wrestling, there was nothing but love radiating off of both of them. It filled the temple home, and wrapped itself lovingly around little Ringo, who simply squealed and clapped as she watched her parents tussle.

Seiko Ayase loved her family. And she wouldn't trade them for the world.
