Work Text:
Temenos was accustomed to leading lost sheep. He was a shepherd first and foremost, taking the hand of those lost and guiding them in the warm light of day.
“Come, my wayward lamb,” he implores, offering his hand to those in need of his assistance. Crick was one of those people.
The first time he did, his lamb had been behind him, yet never strayed too far from his sight. He was almost like the newborns he compares him to, stumbling around on the uneven path of the pilgrimage as though his legs were just made. He complained about the relentless teasing and Temenos being “too fast”, almost similar to bleating, but still followed Temenos, relying on his guidance on where to go.
The sight made him feel warm though, just as the light of the sun shone above him.
It was no different this time, aside from it being cold. The daylight was still there, and he implored the same thing to an eerily quiet Crick, “Come, my wayward lamb.” He took his shepherd's hand, holding onto it.
Temenos strangely, didn’t want to let go of it. He’s afraid Crick will walk out of his sight if he does… he’s a grown man though, not a child, he shouldn’t be afraid of that.
It is Crick who silently takes the lead too, and a voice in the back of his head scolds him for allowing the dynamic to be switched like this. It was he who was supposed to be the light to show people the way, just as the sun guides people home.
But his feet dragged him, the only thing getting his legs to move was the hand that was bigger than his own. He didn’t want to move, he wished Crick would slow down. The look his lamb gives him though, tells him that he shouldn’t.
They stop suddenly, and he watches as Crick lets go of his hand. Temenos reaches back for it, ah– he shouldn’t go too far!
Yet Crick doesn’t acknowledge his hand, and goes further and further into the darkness of those hallways. Temenos guided him to a place where his hand couldn't reach any more.
Cold and alone in the dark, he stares at the stained glass window, illuminated by the light of the crescent moon.
