Jim looked over his newspaper. "Do you recognize anything?"
La'an shook her head, still frowning at the TV screen. "I don't remember most of these events, but they all generally line up with my knowledge of this century."
"Same here. Nothing's standing out." Jim checked the clock and then set down his paper. "It's late. Why don't we try again tomorrow?"
La'an nodded. She took one last look at the screen and sighed, then turned off the TV. When she turned around, she found that Jim had set a pillow on one side of the couch. "What are you doing?"
Jim stared blankly. "Making my bed?"
"There's a perfectly good bed right there." La'an pointed through the doorway to the other room.
"Yeah," Jim replied. He unfolded a blanket. "You can have it."
La'an shook her head. "You should take the bed." she said. "I'll sleep on the couch."
"That's okay," Jim lay down on his side and rested his head on the pillow. "I'm good."
"Wait." La'an shook her head again. "No, you paid for this room. It's only fair that you take the bed."
"Actually, where I come from, that would make you my guest," Jim countered. "So you'd get the bed." He wrapped one arm around his pillow so La'an couldn't take it. "Besides, I'm used to sleeping on a military bunk. I'm guessing that you're not."
La'an pursed her lips. "That's all the more reason that you should have the bed."
"Have you ever tried to sleep on a spring mattress after months on a cot? It's feels like falling through a cloud." Jim turned his head to get a better look at La'an. "Besides, this room has a view of the city lights, and I'm used to falling asleep by the light of the stars."
La'an gave him a bemused look. "I'm a Starfleet officer. We operate in space, too."
"Yeah, I know." Jim smirked. "Look, I'd love to argue all night, but you really should get some sleep." He rolled back over, turning away from La'an, and pulled his blanket up to his neck. "Good night."
"Are you serious?" La'an stared at him, mouth open, for several seconds. "That's it?"
Jim said nothing.
"Fine," La'an snapped. She stormed towards her bed. "But if we're still here tomorrow, I'm sleeping on the couch. Good night."
Jim smiled to himself. "Sweet dreams!" he called out.
