Mitsuki knows Katsuki is there, but she also knows it’s best to wait for him to come to her. She learned that after the war. Not to push.

Sure enough he comes to her, padding into the room and grabbing a plate out of her hand to dry it. They do dishes in silence for a few minutes before he finally works up the courage to say what he came to.

“I have a boyfriend.”

There is no surprise that he is gay, although this is also technically his coming out. Mitsuki spotted that one from a mile away. What is a surprise is the gentle way he says it, fondness peeking through his words. She’s immediately intrigued.

“Oh?”

“It’s—it’s Todoroki. From school.”

This, too, does not come as much of a shock. The Todoroki boy had been over a few times, and Mitsuki had known there was something brewing there, could tell from the way Katsuki bloomed like a flower around him, no matter how hard he might deny it. She is a little surprised at the speed—Katsuki could still barely move his arm.

“I’m happy for you,” she says, trying to keep her excitement in check. “He seems like a nice boy.”

“He is,” Katsuki says. “Too nice, I think.”

“Bring him over for dinner,” she says. “I’ll be the judge of that.”

Katsuki smiles at her. They’ve been rarer ever since the war, but they’re starting to come back. Each one fills her heart with joy, makes her want to cry. Bakugou Mitsuki is not a crier, but her son’s careful grins make tears threaten each time.

She almost lost him.

“Yeah,” Katsuki says. “Yeah, I will.”

They go back to the dishes—but when she leans in to bump his shoulder, Katsuki lets her.
