Work Text:
Jade Harley has been alone for longer than she could remember. She was left alone from a really young age and it seems that if she keeps going down the path she's on she will continue to be alone until she dies alone.
Jade Harley lives in an island far away from everything she'll never know. She'll never feel the warmth of a hug, or the comfort of laughter surrounding her, she'll never know what it's like to go to a mall and wander around for no reason, and she'll never feel what it's like to be around people that she knows and loves. She can't even imagine it, no matter how hard she tries. It feels like a foreign concept to her, living a normal life doesn't even sound real to her.
She knows why she's out here. Of course she does, she knew for a long time. She knew before she even meet the people who she'll die with, she knew even before her friends learnt about the game, she knew even before they'll know their fate. She understands what's going to happen to her, she knows she is destined to be alone. She doesn't even know if she's doomed, if this universe will fail on them. She won't know until they start the game if everything she's been waiting for meant something. With her luck she'll be useless, dead before they even need her. Maybe they don't need her at all. Maybe all of this was just for the amusement of whatever's up there. Maybe she has no reason to wait, maybe she won't even have to do anything and she'll be rescued as quickly as the game begins. They'll find out where she is and they'll save her.
Right?
The only real thing that keeps her going is the thoughts of the future. It's the only thing that she has control over. The ideas of a better place, a better life. She'll live in a small apartment in the middle of a loud city surrounded by people, she thinks to herself. A train will pass in the early hours of the morning waking her up. She'll complain and pretend to be annoyed but the sound the train makes for a good alarm and she liked being awake before the sun raised anyway. She'll have her bedroom in the same room as her kitchen so she'll never have to take more than 5 step to make herself tea. Her shower will be cold because the hot water never lasts for long, but it feels cool and it feels refreshing. It would make her feel alive. She'll still have a lot of plants even if the apartment is way to small for them, at least she'll never forget to water one. It's big enough that Bec will still be able to stay with her. If she stepped outside she'd see a sea of people all trying to get from one place to another. She would never mind the crowds, she'd push through them with a smile. She'll live in that small apartment in the big city and she'll be happy.
But no, she doesn't live in a small apartment. She lives in a house that's way to big for her, in an island that's way to big for anyone. That's all she has and all she'll ever have.
Jade Harley will always be alone.
