Bri was the kind of girl who would loudly announce, “I’m not like other girls,” before dramatically sipping her oat milk latte in the middle of class. She wore knee-high socks even on sports days, and whenever someone mentioned a group project, she’d flick her hair and say, “I just always end up doing everything anyway.”
Sean, on the other hand, was the definition of a pick-me boy. Always hovering with a guitar, writing painfully obvious lyrics about “a girl with stars in her eyes but a storm in her heart.” He’d say things like, “Nice guys always finish last,” after being ignored in group chats he joined uninvited.
Naturally, when they met, it was chaotic fate.
Their first interaction was at drama club auditions. Bri stumbled dramatically on stage, pretending it was all part of her act. Sean clapped first, whispering loud enough for the room to hear, “She’s different.”
And from that moment, they spiraled into a whirlwind of “Look at us, we’re not like them” energy.
The Others
Andria, once Bri’s best friend, watched with a curled lip from the corner of the cafeteria. She remembered when Bri ditched her the night before her big piano recital for a TikTok collab with some random influencer. Since then, her hatred ran deep.
Xinru and Zul, the ever-sarcastic duo, could barely tolerate being in the same class. “God, they’re so loud about being misunderstood,” Xinru would say. Zul would just roll his eyes every time Sean pulled out his ukulele during lunch.
Zac and Zap, the infamous twins, once got dragged into Bri’s messy “truth or dare” phase in Year 8, leading to a whole drama involving fake screenshots and a “stolen” hoodie. They didn’t like her, but they were over it. Mutual, cold nods had become the new normal.
The Conflict
When Bri and Sean announced they were officially “soulbound partners in a world of fakes,” the group chat exploded.
Andria: “She’s doing it again. She’ll drop him the moment he stops giving her attention.”
Xinru: “Let’s bet how long it lasts. I say 2 weeks.”
Zul: “I say until she finds another ukulele boy.”
Zac: “They deserve each other, honestly.”
Zap: “Yeah, maybe they'll implode together.”
But drama didn’t wait long. Bri accused Sean of flirting with his “so-called childhood bestie” after seeing him help Xinru pick up her books. Sean dramatically wrote a sad song and performed it in front of the canteen with tears.
Xinru almost choked on her rice.
Bri broke up with him in front of the whole class, screaming, “I THOUGHT YOU WERE DIFFERENT.”
Sean replied, “I am different. You just didn’t see the real me.”
Everyone clapped.
A week later, they got back together after Sean posted a TikTok with the caption, “She’s toxic, but she’s my toxic.”
And Bri commented, “They just don’t get us.”
Andria blocked them.
Xinru and Zul started a countdown to the next breakup.
Zac and Zap didn’t even bother looking up from their Switch.
