Work Text:
Lucy was on her third night of being a Sergeant. So far it wasn’t too bad, but she was definitely missing her team. And her bed. And Tim.
She was out driving the streets when her personal phone rang. Glancing at it sitting in the phone stand on the dash, seeing it was Miles. She knew from their earlier conversation that he had a date tonight.
Moving her hand to answer, she spoke into the phone. “Hey, what’s up?”
It sounded like he was out of breath or something and it took him a minute to finally be able to talk. “I was on my date, I was walking her to her car when some man came up and snatched her from behind us. He stuffed her into a car and they drove off. I’m trying to follow behind but I need help.”
“Okay, yeah. Where are you now?” She asks already ready to call it in.
“On Pico just crossing Hauser going East. Yellow car.”
“On it. Keep me updated if you can.” Lucy hangs up the phone, flipping on the lights and sirens while radioing it in.
It didn’t take long for Lucy to catch up to the car, Miles pulling over to let her past him. As a Sergeant, she didn’t feel she needed to request for backup just yet until she knew entirely what she was dealing with.
Getting to an intersection, a car pulled out in front of her. There wasn’t a crash but she lost sight of the car. Slamming her hand on the steering wheel in frustration, she kept driving hoping to spot it.
It all happened too quickly. One minute she was in pursuit, the next she found herself feeling dazed. Finally looking up, she saw the yellow car crashed into the right side of her car.
“Control, 7-L-300 requesting backup and an RA to my location. Suspect crashed into my shop. About to exit to check on them now.”
“7-L-300 do you need an RA to check you as well?” Was immediately asked back into the radio to her.
The stubborn part of her wanted to say no, but she did have a slight headache. “Please send an additional RA.”
“Copy that.”
Before Lucy could step out of her car, another car pulled up. The door opened and Miles ran over to the other car.
“What happened?” He asks Lucy who is right behind him.
“Lost sight of them and he T-boned the shop.”
“Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I think so. Just a bit of a headache.”
After police backup had arrived and the medics checked on the other car, Lucy insisted Miles go to the hospital with the woman he was on the date with. That left her sitting on the edge of the ambulance getting checked on herself.
All of a sudden, a truck pulls up and comes to a stop. Lucy alerted one of the officers and before he could go check it out, Tim came rushing over.
“Hey, you okay?” He’s now standing in front of Lucy with a worried look on his face.
“Yeah, I’m good. How did you-“ He stops her before she can even finish.
“Miles called me. Said you seemed a little out of it.”
“I’m fine,” she rolls her eyes but secretly she’s glad he’s there. She hasn’t gotten to seem him much the last few days and just being in his presence again was so nice.
“You know you can’t lie to me.” He shoots back in a serious yet sweet tone. He steps close enough to her that she can lean her head onto his abdomen, basically supporting all of her weight.
“She’s not entirely lying. She does have a very mild concussion but otherwise she seems okay.” The paramedic checking her out smiles, “just keep an eye on her and if anything changes I’m sure you’re aware, bring her to the emergency room.”
Neither bothered to correct the woman who assumed they were together. Lucy secretly hoped Tim would keep up a fuss and make her go home with him to keep an eye on her.
After Lucy was cleared and she finally sat up straight, Tim looks to her, “Let me drive you back to the station. You can change out and come home with me.”
“Tim,” she breathes, “You don’t need to do that. Celina is home, I’m sure I’ll be fine.” She doesn’t even know why she bothers, he knows her too well.
“I don’t care. You need someone to watch you and I’ll be damned if it isn’t me.” There’s no sense of harshness in his voice, only pure love and care for her, just like he always has done.
“Ok,” she chews on her bottom lip trying to hold back the smile that’s trying to creep up on her. “But only if you let Kojo on the couch.”
“Deal.” He quickly agrees before helping her up and into his truck.

Once at home, Lucy got a shower and was just about to hop into bed. Her and Tim decided they would both be okay sharing the bed. She was pulling the blankets back when she felt Tim staring at her from the other side of the room.
“Can I help you?” She playfully teases.
“Just making sure you’re okay is all.” He shrugs before rounding the bed so he’s closer to her.
“Tim, I appreciate it, I do. But I promise I’m okay. I just hate that I already got injured on only my third day.”
“It wasn’t your fault, Luce.” She grabs her gently by the arms, drawing her closer and letting her fall into his arms.
“I miss you,” she quietly admits, voice muffled by his shirt. “I miss this.”
“I miss you too, love. But we’re here now.”
He squeezes her a little tighter, placing a kiss on her temple before letting her go. They both silently climb into bed, she automatically gravitates towards him resting her head on his chest near his heart. Letting out a content sigh as his arms wrap around her holding her close, she lets sleep take over. He gives her one last kiss on the top of her head before sleep takes him, too.
