rewriting an old fanfic since i orphaned it and thought the concept was still cute. hopefully got better at writing or something

Work Text:

Bright stars twinkled across the countryside, though the scattered clouds dulled their light. There was a soft crack as Timothy finally managed to split open the peanut he’d been keeping under his hat. He was accompanied by Jiminy as they sat on the top of Casey Jr.’s roof. The circus was already packing up after a few days of work. They never stayed long, especially in small towns.

But before they left in the morning, Jiminy had managed to get Timothy to stargaze with him. He already did this pretty often with Pinocchio, just felt respectful to say ‘hi’ to Miss Blue every now and again. Might as well bring the tradition over to an old pal too. He figured the guy could use a break anyhow.

See?” Jiminy began with a hint of smugness and a jab at Timothy’s arm, “Told you they were beautiful.”

Maybe if they’d done this the night before, Timothy would’ve been more enthusiastic, but the fact he wouldn’t be seeing yet another close friend for a long while was getting to him. Not that he was planning on telling Jiminy that; he didn’t want to sour what was supposed to be an intimate moment. Besides, hearing him talk, even if it was about the constellations, managed to calm his nerves.

Ah, right, Jim was saying something about the stars, wasn’t he? Timothy was about to respond, but whatever it was about his friend right now made him stop. It could’ve been how he was smiling, or how he was looking at the stars with these sort of bright eyes, or even how the dark blue background was complimenting his outfit...

Actually, he could get used to this whole stargazing thing.

“You know what, Jimbo? They really are…”
