Work Text:
Toya sighed happily as he turned the next page in his book. As much as he enjoyed spending time with Akito, he also valued time where he was by himself and could enjoy his hobbies. Akito wanted to go on an evening run and left about half an hour ago. Toya let his eyes drag across the words, and huffed. He was reading with his eyes, not his mind. He trailed a couple paragraphs back before taking a sip of his coffee.
As he continued reading, he looked out the window to see it was snowing, pretty hard at that. Toya smiled, feeling more cozy in his warm house.
…
Wait. It was snowing.
Akito was out there! A worrisome feeling sat itself at the bottom of Toya’s stomach. How long had it been snowing? He slipped his phone out of his pocket, and brought it up to the contact titled “Akito ❤”. He tapped the call button.
He had anticipated a quick answer, given that Akito was always a fast replier when it came to Toya. But the ringtone played once, twice, then three times. And eventually, he heard something.
“Hey, it's Akito. Sorry I missed your call. I’m probably busy or my phone is dead. Leave me a voicemail or something if it’s actually important.” Then the call screen disappeared. Toya’s brows furrowed. He began to worry about possible outcomes of why Akito didn’t answer. Was he injured? Did he pass out from the cold? Toya tried to remember what Akito was wearing before he left the house.
Toya remembered Akito wearing a T-shirt with a light jacket. Toya would usually scold him for wearing something so light, but Akito would counter by saying he would sweat too much if he wore something too thick. Toya put a bookmark in his book and set it on the table, he wouldn’t be able to focus now. He checked the current weather and gasped to himself. It was 17 degrees Fahrenheit! None of the weather channels had predicted it to be this cold. He sat on the couch and let his thoughts run haywire before getting up, grabbing his winter coat off the rack, and turning the doorknob to the outside.
Toya was immediately blasted with cold hair and soft particles hitting his face and hair. He stepped off their porch and onto the sidewalk, then got a bit stumped in his train of thought. If Akito wouldn’t answer his phone, then he couldn’t know where he was. All he really had left to do was walk the streets of the neighborhood and hope he’d run into him.
Though, almost on cue, orange caught Toya’s vision. Akito was limping, in (as Toya remembered) a t-shirt, jeans, and a singular jacket.
Toya said nothing as he ran over to the shivering boy.
“Hey, T-Toya…” Akito greeted through chattering teeth.
Akito felt his blood get a bit colder at the sight of Toya’s ominously stoic expression. Suddenly, Toya slipped his hand around Akito’s back and under his legs, and began to carry him bridal style back to the house. Toya’s heart sank at how cold Akito felt.
“Toya?! What are you doing?!” Akito said, face turning even more red than it already was.
“Getting you home? There’s a lot I have to do.” Toya states blankly. “You hurt your leg too, yes? You shouldn’t have to walk it more than you need to.” Toya continued, finally setting Akito down to open the door and usher the boy inside. Toya shut the door behind him as Akito took his coat off.
“My leg is fine.” He argues as he sets his snow covered jacket on the coat rack. As Akito mentioned this, Toya realized he hadn’t really got a good look at his leg, he just noticed the limp. But as Toya looked, there sat a blood stain on his jeans.
“You’re bleeding.” Toya said, walking closer to Akito.
“Well, yeah. But it’s fine. I need to go work on that demo. So I’ll be in our bedro-” Akito stopped as Toya placed a hand on Akito’s shoulder and brought him closer.
“Akito… You’re extremely cold, bleeding, and very tired. Could you let me take care of you? Please?” Toya looked at him with pleading eyes. Akito considered the request. On the one hand, he knew it would make him feel a lot better if he let Toya help him, but he really wanted to finish that demo…
Fuck it, he could finish it later. It’s not like he could deny Toya when he looked at him like that anyway.
“Okay.” Akito nodded, and Toya smiled in turn.
“Thank you, Akito.” He then pulled Akito in for a hug. Compared to Toya, Akito was freezing. So Akito quickly leaned into how warm he was. Eventually (to Akito’s dismay), Toya pulled away.
“First of all, you should probably get a change of clothes.” Toya decided, dragging Akito off to their bedroom. Akito sat at the edge of the bed as Toya went through their closet and found a pretty baggy hoodie and a pair of sweatpants. Akito smiled with content as Toya gave him the clothes. Akito quickly noticed that the hoodie belonged to Toya.
“I’ll be right back, you change while I’m gone.” Toya said as he exited. Akito let a wave of comfort hit him as he draped the article of clothing over himself. It was warm against his still chilled skin. And though the pants did send a singe of pain through his knee as the fabric brushed the gash, it didn’t stop him from feeling hazy and content. Toya returned with a med kit and kneeled where Akito was sitting.
“Can I?” Toya asked, motioning to roll up the pant sleeve. Akito nodded down at him, suddenly having to stuff down the urge to pull him up onto the bed and curl up next to him. Toya rolled up Akito’s pants and began to clean the gash on Akito’s knee as gently as he could. Akito only slightly winced at the sudden pain.
“So, what happened?” Toya asked as he prepared a larger-than-normal-sized bandaid.
“I was running, and noticed it had begun to snow. Since I was looking up at the sky, I didn’t notice the rock in the middle of the sidewalk. As soon as I looked back, it was already too late. After I hurt my leg, I just decided to walk home, and then the snow kept getting more intense, and it kept getting colder, and I’m sure you get the idea.” Akito explained, getting sheepish as he realized how dumb the cause of his injury was. Toya laughed lightly as he finished putting the bandaid on his knee.
“More importantly, though…” Toya began, promptly seating himself on Akito’s lap. Red rushed to Akito’s cheeks in the blink of an eye. “Why didn’t you answer my call? I got really worried.” Toya asked, wrapping his arms around Akito’s shoulders. Akito internally cursed at himself, how could he leave Toya hanging like that?
“I’m sorry, Toya… my phone died in the middle of my run. I didn’t think anyone would call me.” He apologized, hiding his face in the crook of Toya’s neck. Toya patted his back.
“It’s alright. Just be more careful next time.” Toya replied softly, hands dragging up from Akito’s shoulders to his hair, curling a lock in his finger. Soon after just running his fingers through it, pressing a kiss to the top of his head all the while. Akito began to practically melt at the affection, trying to get closer to Toya even though that was almost impossible.
“Here, I need to get ready for bed as well. Give me a moment.” Toya pulled himself off of Akito’s lap, much to Akito’s dismay. The shorter flopped his head onto the pillows. Toya pressed a quick kiss to the side of his head.
“I’ll be right back.” He said quietly. Akito huffed, already getting impatient at the lack of Toya in his eyesight.
As Akito awaited Toya’s return, he suddenly felt his eyelids get heavy. Taking an evening run and tripping on a rock can really knock the wind out of someone. He took the soft covers and brought them up to his shoulders, tucking his hands near his cheeks to add to the pillow he was already laying on. All the while slightly bringing up his knees, he probably would’ve fallen asleep right then and there if Toya was in the bed as well.
He felt childish for not being able to fall asleep as quickly without Toya, but it wasn’t like anybody knew that except for Toya himself (and he knew Toya would never make fun of him for something like that). He let his eyes fall shut and his thoughts wander. That is until he was dragged out of his stream of consciousness as he felt arms around his waist, pulling him closer to Toya who lay behind him.
“Hi.” He heard Toya greet softly, his hands slipping under Akito’s baggy hoodie to warm his waist. If Akito was fully awake, he would probably blush and pretend to pull away from the affection, but tonight he was too tired for his “tough guy” counterpart. Instead he just leaned closer to Toya, already feeling barely awake.
“Are you tired?” Toya asked with a quiet chuckle.
“Mhm.” Akito replied, feeling like he was floating as Toya’s hand ran up and down Akito’s waist and stomach lovingly.
Chills were sent up Akito’s spine as he felt lips press to his nape. Toya was slow and gentle with his advances. Closing his lips around a patch of skin and pressing, before letting go. He let Akito feel every moment of the gesture, slow and steady as he moved down Akito’s neck, pulling at the back of Akito’s hoodie to continue. Toya’s love left Akito feeling weak, legs and hands slowly uncoiling and relaxing as Toya covered him in affection. Toya planted another kiss to the shell of Akito’s reddened ear before speaking.
“I love you.” He said quietly to Akito, who suddenly began breathing a bit more heavily.
“You mean so much to me.” Toya continued, voice barely louder than a whisper. Toya softly squeezed Akito closer to him, happy that Akito finally felt warmer.
“I think you’re beautiful,” The taller began, moving his index finger in a circular motion at Akito’s middle. “Resilient,” he nuzzled his head at Akito’s neck.
“And so passionate about the things you love.” There was a moment of silence between the boys as moonlight filtered through the window. Akito’s breathing got more labored, but Toya wasn’t finished yet.
“You’re an amazing human being, Akito. Thank you for giving me the privilege to love you. I’ll be forever grateful.” Toya finally ceased his advances, letting his head rest in the crook of Akito’s neck. Toya was ready to let himself fall asleep then, but something was wrong.
Akito sucked in a shaky breath, clearly holding back a sob.
“Akito? What’s wrong, love?” Toya quickly and gently turned Akito around to face him, and low and behold, his eyes were lined with tears and he was biting his lip to hold back from crying.
“No, Toya, it’s alright.” Akito quickly smiled, and Toya let out a sigh of relief.
“Happy tears.” Akito declared, as Toya moved his hands to rub away the wetness on his face.
“Thank you for all of this.” Akito beamed up at Toya. “I’ve never felt this loved before.” He said, voice still shaky from crying.
“Well you better get used to it.” Toya teased, wrapping his arms around Akito as the younger nestled himself close to Toya’s chest. Toya tapped Akito’s back.
“Look up at me?” Toya requested. Akito quickly complied, looking up at Toya’s silver eyes, highlighted by the light of the moon.
Toya brushed his hand over Akito’s face, and pulled him ever so closer. He then locked Akito’s lips in his, moving slowly and gently as he did before. Akito returned the kiss readily, eyes closing on instinct as the two moved into a steady rhythm. Toya pulled back for air, but it seems Akito wasn’t finished, quickly stealing his breath with another soft kiss. Toya wondered if their heartbeats were in sync as their chest flushed together, neither wanting to be even a centimeter apart from each other.
After about a minute (or an hour, neither could tell) of kissing, Akito pulled back and drooped his head down, showing that he was finished. He got back into a more comfortable position, head tucked in Toya’s neck and arms wrapped around Toya’s waist. Of course Toya returned the gesture, arms coiled around Akito’s back just as tightly. Their legs tangled together; the last thing either of them wanted to do at that moment was separate.
No words were needed after that kiss. Only the sound of the other’s breathing that acted as an ambience to lull them both to sleep and a reminder that the two were inseparable.
