Jolyne jolted awake. Tears blurred her vision. She felt her body tremble, she wasn’t sure why but this was definitely happening. She tried to take deep breaths but they came out more like ragged pants. She didn’t like getting like this. It made her feel weak. She couldn’t show weakness when she had so much she was fighting. Wait, fighting what? Was that all just a dream? Was she really fighting anyone?
All she could remember, her dream now a haze, was her father, her girlfriend and her friends all fighting this one man with a very dark and righteous aura. He was scary, but nothing too hard for her to handle but all before she realized it all went white and she felt her memories of her loves, losses and trials she faced slipping away.
Jolyne took another deep breath and looked to her side. Hermes was still there. She looked at her hands. She was also still there. Would Foo still be there if she went to check the guest bedroom? Of course they would be. Foo will never leave Jolyne and Hermes’ side, she thought with a weak smile.
Just then, she felt Hermes stir from her slumber. She softly kissed her forehead, hoping she that would lull her back to sleep but to no avail. Hermes’ eyes peeked out slowly from her lids, and blinked slowly. It took her a moment but she slowly began to yawn and murmur, “Good morning, sunshine.” Hermes said with a breathy laugh. She slowly but surely pulled Jolyne closer to her. Jolyne almost instantly relaxed. She let own a yawn of her own.
“So...Jolyne...Why are you awake?” Hermes said, stroking Jolyne’s hair. It took her a while to respond but eventually, Jolyne just blurted it all out at once.
“Ah, I know what you’re saying. A nightmare. And a pretty terrifying one. But don’t worry, I’m here to protect you, my princess.” Hermes said with a smirk. Jolyne just cackled, “Yeah, right! If I can’t protect myself there’s no way in hell you’re going to save me!” They both just laughed, and cuddled closer.
“You still tired?” Jolyne asked, placing a hand on Hermes’ chest, feeling her chest. Hermes nodded, “Yeah, but I’d appreciate if you’d stop grabbing my boob.” Jolyne just blushed and cried out, “I’m feeling your heartbeat! It...comforts me...knowing you’re alive.” Jolyne ended softly. “Aw, man, Jol. I was just teasing you. I didn’t know you were gonna get sappy.” Hermes replied putting her head on Jolyne’s chest. “C’mon. Let’s sleep.” Hermes said, and they fell asleep listening and feeling each other’s heartbeat.
