Work Text:

It was everywhere.

Deep crimson, everywhere.

Soaked into the carpet, splattered on the walls, pouring out of him...

They had waited too long to satiate that nagging hunger, and now they paid the price.

Wendell gasped as they slowly came back to their senses. A mauled corpse laid in front of them, sprawled out, the terror filled expression still plastered on his face.

Austin's face.

"No...nonono..." They thought as they stumbled back, "Please no..."

Why did they.

How could they.

Monster. They were a monster. A horrible, disgusting, terrible monster

The nausea that had been creeping up on them was overwhelming. The lingering taste of his flesh and blood was too much. They gagged between cries as violent tremors coursed through them.

Right as Wendell had been about to loose the contents of their stomach, they jolted awake, gasping for air with a hand to their chest.

They looked to the other side of the bed, for the comforting sight of Austins sleeping form next to them, but the spot was empty.

No...

They frantically glanced around the room for him, struggling to see through the darkness and the tears blurring their vision. They hadn't even noticed the figure stumble to the bedroom doorway, nor the figure carefully approaching.

It was only when the bedside lamp was turned on did Wendell notice the figure, and who it was.

Austin

He made sure to keep some distance from them as he sat on the bed besides them. They knew the look he gave; the look of wanting to help, and yet at the same time having an aversion by the display. He never really knew what to do in these situations, and they never faulted him for it. Neither of them did when faced with the other upset. Still, Austin was used to this situation by now. Avoid moving too fast, keeping distance until they come closer, lights on, staying in their sight.

He never asked about the nightmares, and Wendell was grateful about that. They couldn't tell him about the contents...They just couldn't

The two of them sat there, the only thing that broke through the silence was Wendells gasping sobs, and even then those eventually petered out. As they leaned against him, Austin placed his hand on their back and began gently rubbing circles.

As the adrenaline slowly gave way to exhaustion, Wendell glanced at the alarm clock next to their bed, "5:20 AM".

Damn it...

Even though they just wanted to just lay back down with Austin, snuggled up, and drift back to sleep, they knew they shouldn't. The two of them had early morning classes, and the alarm was set to go off in 10 minutes anyway. Austin seemed to realize this too as they heard him let out a heavy sigh. He patted their back before he got up and looked at them, as if for some kind of silent confirmation that leaving now was okay, which they nodded.

Wendell watched as Austin left and went into the bathroom, they listened as the shower was turned on, and just stared blankly at the wall. That hunger slowly creeping up on them again.

They really are a monster.
