Work Text:

He tried his very best to sneeze as quietly as possible and yet, Mithrun still turned his head, staring at his running nose.

-That’s what I thought.

Kabru frowned as he grabbed a tissue.

-What does that even mean?

-I know something was up. You never procrastinate this much to get out of bed.

-I’m not procrastinating! I’m just… taking a moment to get myself together.

Part of him wished the former canary captain would look away as he blew his nose but the elf kept his black eyes fixated on him. He probably didn’t care at all but there were more glamorous sides of his boyfriend to witness.

-It’s ok, I’m not judging. Take your time.

Another sniffle and Mithrun was putting aside the fruit salad he was preparing for their breakfast. This made the royal advisor raise an eyebrow, well aware of his lover’s issue with leftovers.

-What are you doing?

-We can eat those another time. I’m going to cook you a more filling breakfast, you need it to fight away your sickness.

-Mithrun… That’s very sweet but we don’t have time for that. I’m gonna be late.

-Late for what?

Kabru stared at him as if he said the dumbest thing possible.

-For work, obviously.

-Work? No way, you’re taking the day off.

-Mithrun!

-A runny nose isn’t the best look for someone in your position.

He paused, taking a few steps to close the distance with his boyfriend, putting his palm on his forehead. Kabru was always warm, which was amazing for cuddles, but his skin was a whole lot hotter than usual this day.

-And you have a fever so no, you’re definitely staying here today.

-I can’t! I have several appointments scheduled for today!

-We’ll reschedule them, then.

Mithrun let his hand glide across his skin, caressing his cheek tenderly before going down, far enough to reach his chest, pressing lightly on it to push him back into their shared bed. The royal advisor groaned but made no attempt to get back up, the blankets under him so temptyl soft he felt like he could sink in them.

-There’s no way I’ll convince you to let me go, right?

-Correct.

Kabru sighted, closing his eyes for a bit. His head was starting to feel heavy.

-You’re really stubborn, you know that?

-I do. We could argue about who’s the most stubborn, Mister Workaholic, but I’ll give you a pass this time. Get some rest, I’ll cook you something nice in the meantime.

The elf leaned forward to put a chast kiss on his beloved’s forehead and the tallman quickly fell into a dreamless sleep.

A nice smell was floating in the air when he woke up, escaping from the kitchen through the half open door leading to their bedroom. When did Mithrun get so good at cooking? A few years ago, back in the dungeon, Kabru was the one forced to do all the cooking and it was a disaster. Then, out of the blue, his boyfriend found a liking for the culinary art and was now on a level where he could exchange tips and advice with Senshi. Good for him! It always made Kabru’s chest swell with pride when he saw how far his beloved had come. Always purchasing new desires and doing his best to regain some kind of autonomy. He didn’t mind being Mithrun’s caretaker for the rest of his life, taking care of him and spoiling him in the process was one of his biggest joys, but it was nice to know there was a chance his elf will be ok when he’ll be gone.

The royal advisor groaned as he got up. Damn, his head hurt! Still, he wobbled his way to the kitchen, pain replaced by a smile as he saw his lover stirring something in a pan. He was so beautiful with his hair tied up like that. Part of him wanted to stay there, at the entrance of the room, watching him from afar, but the burning desire to hold him in his arms was too strong. As annoying as other people thought it was, from the very start, he couldn’t keep his hands away from him. Mithrun smiled softly as he felt his boyfriend pressing against his back, snuggling to him.

-Did you sleep well?

-Kinda… I still feel pretty foggy…

-It’s normal, dear. Breakfast will be ready soon. There’s some honey lemon tea on the table, it should help you stay hydrated and repair your sore throat.
Nicknames like “dear” always made Kabru melt. It took a moment for him to let go but he ended taking a few steps back before letting himself fall heavily on a chair. On the table, a teapot was kept warm by some runes, magic too advanced for him to understand. The warm tea was welcomed, on top of being delicious.

-There you go. Roasted red pepper and spinach egg bites.

Mithrun announced the menu while giving him his plate of piping hot creamy omelette.

-That looks delicious! Thank you love!

Kabru smiled and took his spoon, about to take a bite when he gazed at his boyfriend, getting ready to devour his meal as well. He grew so much since they first met.

-Wait, isn’t it a bit too much for breakfast? It’s still breakfast, right? I don’t know how long I slept…

-It is indeed breakfast and this will be perfect for you to gain back some of your strength.

-What about you?

The elf simply shrugged.

-I don’t mind eating it.

This made Kabru’s smile a bit brighter. There was his boyfriend, taking care of himself instead of making a fist at every meal, complaining at how much he didn’t want to eat. He was making so much progress! Now that the tallman thought about it, his lover did a good job taking care of him too, today.

-You make a decent nurse, you know?

-I make a wonderful nurse, thank you.

That bought a small laugh out of Kabru.

-Sorry for making you do all of this, I’ll be back to pampering you while I get better!

-Don’t apologise, it’s nice to be the one taking care of you for a change.

-Don’t you mind?

-Not at all. In fact, sick or not, I should do it more often.

-You say that as if you’re not cooking for me all the time.

-I am, but I should let you sleep in more often.

-You definitely shouldn’t! I have a lot of work to do, being an advisor for an emerging kingdom requires a huge amount of time and personnel investment!

-These people are working you to the bone, love.

-As they should! I have to work hard if I want Melini to prosper!

-No one there is treating you well so… Let me take care of you, ok?

The way his deep husky voice grew even lower made Kabru smallow hard. Was it the fever or was his face heating up for real?

-O-okay!

Notes:

Sorry if this was a bit short, I didn't have a lot of time to write today! Anyway, see you tomorrow for, I hope, a longer OS!
