and the cop goes gangster

Summary:

“So.” Nick leaned back against the headboard and flicked his lighter beneath his cigarette. “Do I get a thank you yet?”

Facing away from him, Donnie groaned. “Man, don’t you fucking say a thing.”

Notes:

So, this is a first for the fandom.

I'm genuinely surprised all this movie has is /reader and /ofc fics. That's literally all of them! No shade to that genre, obviously, but I didn't think I'd have the first fic without self-inserts! Hopefully someone out there sees my vision, lol. Thanks for reading!

Also, while ao3 only has the tag for movie 1, this fic is mainly based on and takes place after movie 2.

Work Text:

Nothing good ever happens in a suit.

But Nick knew a lot of good could happen without one.

He just wasn’t sure if the last hour could be classified as “good” for both parties yet. He’d probably find out as soon as his partner decided to start speaking to him again.

“So.” Nick leaned back against the headboard and flicked his lighter beneath his cigarette. “Do I get a thank you yet?”

Facing away from him, Donnie groaned. “Man, don’t you fucking say a thing.”

“Come on, fraulein. What’s the problem? You looked real cute like that, you know.”

“You are so lucky I fuck with dirty old white men.” Donnie grabbed the nearest pillow and shoved it between them. “Like you couldn’t get it anywhere else.”

“Nowhere else I’d want to get it, buddy.” Nick blew out smoke, elbowing the pillow. “What, don’t tell me you’re still sore about all that past shit?”

“You put me in jail, man.”

“And I broke you back out. Fuck, you’re like a fucking goldfish.” Nick took another long drag from his cigarette. “I thought we were even, weren’t we?”

“Shut up. Just shut up.” Donnie rolled onto his back, his eyes meeting Nick’s, and Nick laughed. “You didn’t like me quiet earlier, fraulein.”

“Oh, fuck this.” Pushing himself up, Donnie knocked the bedsheets aside. “The shower‘s mine first, got it?”

Nick folded his arm beneath his head. “Aw, no round two?”

Donnie flipped him off without turning around, and Nick laughed again. “Hey, last question.” He waited for Donnie to reluctantly turn around in the bathroom doorway before pointing his cigarette. “How’s about you and me go on a cruise?”

The door slammed shut with finality. Nick slid the cigarette between his lips with a grin. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
