He chose silence

Summary:

Before fully falling asleep, Abella and O'saa chat a little.

Notes:

Happy birthday Achilles! I absolutely adore your O'saabella oneshot and I thought it could be a nice gift to you writing a "missing scene" of a certain moment of your work. Hope you enjoy your gift 💜

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“What do you think will happen if we reach the tower?” Abella caught the yellow mage by surprise; he thought she was asleep.

“It's up to us to discover what mysteries that tower hides.” he said, nonchalantly.

“Aren’t you… scared?” she absentmindedly snuggled even more in his arms. “I mean, is there something in this world that scares you? the tower, that man appearing in our dreams everytime we sleep…”

Maybe he feared a few things, nor he would admit it. The Prehevil sewers certainly evoked some bad memories and he found them disgusting, but he would've preferred being blinded by a Black Smog than admitting he feared sewers. Maybe the same applies to the current situation. Deep inside, the woman in his arms made him feel like that, but in a stranger way. She wasn't smelly or reminded him of bad occurrences—on the very contrary—, Abella is different.

Maybe he feared her and the feelings he couldn't name that were caused by her.

“Fear is dispensable for yellow mages. I must focus on not fear, such emotion only disturbs the mind.” he said it in one single breath, trying to not show how odd he felt. Suddenly his own words seemed foolish.

“Fear can save us, O’saa.” Abella adjusted herself a little, inhaling deeply before continuing her speech. “I fear ending up just like the dead bodies we found in this city. That's one of the reasons I try to survive. I hope I can live to see the sun in Oldegård again.”

She noticed O’saa seemed to fall asleep while she was talking. His serene expression made her smile a bit; she couldn't believe a man so diligent in his path as a mage could be so soft and peaceful while sleeping. Abella took the opportunity to change their positions, now he was with his face on her neck and Abella's hands were gently stroking his curly hair.

“Wished this peace could stay forever…” she whispered, unbeknownst he still heard everything.

O’saa knew it wouldn't last, it's foolish to think that in a city like Prehevil. He may wake up and say something to her, to bring her back to reality and don't feed such surviving expectations. Yet, he preferred to stay silent this time.
