He Wants To Start WHAT?!

Summary:

Kiara had heard many weird things come out of her mate's mouth but she was not expecting him to say THAT! 'Start a pride'????? Just how many cubs did he want to have with her?!

Notes:

I've always found that scene incredibly funny whenever I revisit Simba's Pride. The funniest part to me at least is Kiara's complete lack of a reaction to Kovu telling her that he wants to 'start a pride' with her. This fanfic intends to show what I believe was going through Kiara's head during that scene.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

'We Are One'

Now where had Kiara heard that phrase before? The Princess stared into her reflection, exploring the deep crevices of her mind trying to figure out where she had heard those three words before, THAT'S IT! Her father had said that to her back when she was a cub! He talked about how they were one because they were family! She wished that mentality could be extended to the Pridelanders and Outsiders, they were both from the same pride after all, then all this war and bloodshed could finally end and her mate and many others wouldn't have to suffer anymore. Who said that can't that be applied to the war? Maybe it could be? Kiara was about to make a mental note to discuss this with her father when she suddenly saw her beloved mate jump to the left excitedly like he came up with an idea of his own.

'Hey! Let's run away together!'

Kiara blinked in confusion. Run away? Sure she loves Kovu dearly and her heart nearly broke in two when he was banished, but she can't just abandon her kingdom, her friends, her family, her father. She would be breaking the hearts of almost everyone she loves if she ran away from home. All Kiara wants is for everybody to get along, if it were up to her then she would fight tooth and nail to make sure that Kovu can come back to the Pridelands. She was so happy when her father wanted to talk to Kovu this morning, finally her two favourite lions were getting along after all these years. She doesn't know whether it's possible now after the exile, but she still wants them to be friends. Maybe her father's lesson to her about family could help?

Kiara was jolted out of her thoughts once more as Kovu continued talking. She mentally beat herself up! Kovu's probably telling her something important and she's ignoring him! What a bad girlfriend! Kiara definitely made sure to pay attention now, Kovu was probably formulating a plan like she was.

Kovu's voice got deeper.

'And start a pride'

He lowered his head to the ground and shook his rear in the air suggestively.

'All our own~'

OKAY! Kiara picked the WORST TIME to pay attention to her mate! GREAT KINGS! Where did that come from?! Kiara could feel her cheeks getting hotter by the second. Whatever she expected Kovu to say it DEFINITELY wasn't THAT! She knew he was happy to see her again too, but she didn't think he was THAT happy?!

'We just reunited Kovu! Calm down!' She thought.

Kiara followed her own advice and quickly regained her composure before telling her beloved boyfriend that she absolutely did not want to 'start a pride' right now. Maybe some day, but not right now. She thought now would be a good idea to tell him her plan before she gets surprised by any more of his 'desires for the future'. She chuckled lovingly at Kovu's antics and went to nuzzle him.

'Kovu, we have to go back'

'But we're finally together!'

'Our place is with our pride, if we leave then they'll be divided forever'

Kiara truly believed in this sentiment, her father had always taught her the importance of unity and teamwork, that everyone had a place and role within the pride and the Pridelands as a whole. She also didn't know how to respond to what Kovu said and was generally still too flustered to approach the topic. Kiara desperately hoped he got the hint. She wasn't very knowledgeable about this stuff anyway and knew for sure that Kovu wasn't either, it was best to avoid the topic right now, she reasoned.

Notes:

Seriously Kovu, read the situation!
