Work Text:
In her late twenties, she had never really been interested in soulmates. Like everyone in the world, she had a sentence written over her body since her birth, which should be the first words her soulmate would tell her. And it was assuming that she would meet them first. Plenty of people never met this special person and honestly, if she ended by belonging to this category, it wouldn't bother her that much. Many people managed to find love without their soulmate. Besides, maybe hers was platonic, who knows.
So, she really didn't waste her time thinking about this person who was maybe waiting for her, maybe not, somewhere among the eight billion people all over the globe.
The only thing that intrigued her was how someone could possibly say the words tattooed on her back for their very first meeting.
The years had passed, until this cold February morning where the atmosphere was peaceful in her small suburb, where the road was covered with a thin layer of frost on which a few rare rays of sunshine shone, where she would receive two texts that would change her life forever.
She had the day off and was quietly sipping a cup of hot chocolate for her breakfast, a bit shivering despite her warm and soft wool jacket. Her left hand held her phone as she was checking the latest news and released musics. Suddenly, a notification surprised her. The phone number of the guy texting her was unknown, and she almost decided not to open it because a lot of scams were circulating those days. Almost. Because her curiosity had the best of her and she couldn't resist very long.
So apparently, the reason behind her troubled morning was a random guy named Thomas and holding a strange hat. Nice. And he was simply saying "Hello? Are you there?"
Sorry man, I don’t talk to creeps. Besides, you sound like a turret, I'm traumatized of these things.
But here's the thing. She was very curious. Maybe a bit too much. Her brother always reproached her that.
So obviously, she took her phone again (she had put it down and turned it over on the table to resist, it didn’t work that much) and wrote "Do I know you?" hoping that it would sound as sarcastic as it did in her mind.
The only answer was "I don’t know".
Wow. Not vague at all.
She sighed.
It was already too late, so she guessed she could just continue to text him and see where all of that would lead. The minutes passed by, and things continued to take an even more... unexpected turn. And when she said 'unexpected', she really meant it.
First of all, some girl had been missing, and for some reason she had sent her phone number before. Like, just why? She wasn't completely heartless, but she hadn't asked for any of that mess.
Moreover, her phone decided all of a sudden to show her a conversation that she was pretty sure she was not invited to read. She wanted to be offended by what these folks were saying about her, but honestly? She couldn't really blame them.
Anyway, her day couldn't become weirder.
That was where she was wrong.
It took a while to fully sink in. But when it did?
Yep, she froze.
Her phone fell on the table, screen on, showing the latest notification. The text was saying "Well... how did you like it?"
It was her words. Written on her back. Her soulmate words.
She almost chocked on her chocolate, which was cold now.
Oh. My. Goodness.

Somewhere else in the world, a mysterious man with a dark hoodie and the curious sentence "...You've gotta be kidding me." written in the palm of his left hand received a text saying those exact same words.
Well, that was unexpected.
