Work Text:
Time stood still just like a photograph
You made me feel like this would last forever
Night had fallen hours before but a demon and an angel were still sat in silence on a picnic blanket beneath the star-studded sky. The moon was near full and it gazed down at them, watching silently.
The two had been sat their for hours now, waiting to see the stars. Crowley's stars. The two of them watched the little pin pricks of light pulsate in a slow rhythm as they finished off another bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Crowley glanced across at the angel seated beside him. His face was bathed in moonlight as he stared up at the heavens. He looked, well, angelic.
Quietly, Crowley removed something from his pocket. A photo. It wasn't too old but looking at it now it felt like a lifetime ago. Before everything happened. Before the end. Before their beginning.
It was from that night back in the '40s when they were almost found out. He hadn't realised Aziraphale had kept it but after uncovering the photo hidden in the back of a book he had kept it close ever since.
Looking in your eyes
I see my whole life
Aziraphale turned and looked at him. He smiled softly as he noticed what had stolen Crowley's attention. He had realised the photo was missing a while back. At least he knew it was in safe hands.
As he watched the demon, he found himself drawn to his eyes. Those beautiful yellow eyes that Crowley had never seemed to like. Aziraphale loved them though.
In Crowley's eyes he saw every adventure they had ever had. Every chance meeting. Every close-shave. Every important moment of Aziraphale's life that he saw in those gorgeous eyes.
They say you know it when you know it, and I know
Promise that you'll hold me close, don't let me go
Crowley looked up and found Aziraphale watching him. Their eyes met and they both smiled. It's funny how they could both sit there to watch the stars but end up gazing at each other.
Aziraphale inched closer to Crowley before draping his arm around the demon's shoulders. This was new territory for them both but neither moved.
It was like they had always been like this.
Take my heart, don't break it
Love me to my bones
All this time I've wasted
You were right there all along
Crowley rested his head on Azjraphale's shoulder. The two leaned into each as they allowed themselves to fall back so they were laid upon the blanket, gazing up at the stars.
Crowley curled into his angel's side. Warmth spread between the two as they lay entwined in each other's arms.
You and I stargazing
Intertwining souls
We were never strangers
You were right there all along
As they lay beside each other, they both thought back to how it used to be. Dancing around each other. Ignoring what they were both obviously feeling.
Aziraphale cast his mind back to the moment that Crowley saved his books in that church. When Crowley had risked pain to come and save him.
A small smile passed over his lips as he gazed down at his demon. Now he thought about it, Crowley had been there to save him many times before. All throughout time.
I lose my mind
When I'm around you, how I come alive
Crowley had suffered before. He'd suffered at the hands of Hell. He'd suffered with nightmares of his fall. He'd suffered through torture and pain and loss.
But he'd do it all again to keep his angel safe.
Aziraphale had always been there for him. After all his troubles, all his pain, the Angel had always been there to relieve the suffering. Even if he didn't know it.
He'd always brought a smile back to his face.
When I'm without you, I can't help but feel so lost
I wanna give you all I've got
Aziraphale brushed his hands through Crowley's hair. The demon leaned into his touch and hummed softly. The angel watched his demon and, for a moment, his mind was controlled by fears.
Life without Crowley wasn't worth it. The brief time he had spent in Heaven away from him had felt like, well, Hell.
Aziraphale drew Crowley closer to him, wrapping him tighter in his arms. He would never leave him again.
They say you know it when you know it, and I know
Promise that you'll hold me close, don't let me go
Crowley looked up at his angel. Neither spoke but they didn't need to. They both understood. The fear of loss. The safety the other provided.
The hope and warmth and future they saw in each other.
Take my heart, don't break it
Love me to my bones
All this time I've wasted
You were right there all along
Their past had been rocky. Enemies for so long. Tentative alliances. A slow friendship.
And now something more.
They had both been there since the beginning. Had both seem the same things, experienced the same times, watched the same events.
They'd both been there the whole time. They'd just never seemed to have realised.
You and I stargazing
Intertwining souls
We were never strangers
You were right there all along
Crowley gestured to the sky. He pointed at the stars he had made and softly whispered the stories humans had created for each constellation.
Aziraphale listened. He listened to Crowley and he cherished each word he said. His voice low as he told the tales of each of his stars.
Take my heart, don't break it
Love me to my bones
All this time I've wasted
You were right there all along
The two would spend many more nights like this, gazing at the stars.
Safe in each other's arms.
