Jon and Damian

Summary:

Where the members of the Batfam (and Superfam) learn about Damian and Jon's relationship.

It may have been on purpose.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

"... You're 15! I thought you were at least 18.

"A lot of people tell me that!" Jon squeaked with a shy smile. "But yes, I'm 15, I can show you my ID!" He laughed lightly, and the interviewer smiled at him very kindly.

"No need to, but Jon, the question a lot of people want to know: how much is the height difference between you and the youngest Wayne?" Jon tried his hardest not to blush at the double entendre that question could have, damn Collin and his double-entendre comments.

"Well, uh, I'm 5'10'' tall, my family is pretty tall, in general, and they usually think I'm overage for that reason." He nervously adjusted his glasses, still keeping that goofy smile on his face. "Damian is about 5'4", more or less, and we're the same age!" He quickly clarified with quick movements towards the camera pointed at him, another reporter (not much older than himself, probably) quickly approached him.

“Wow! That’s a big diference. The teenage audience wants to know, doesn’t your neck hurt when you kiss?” Jon laughed again, now with a VERY noticeable blush on his cheeks.

"Uuuhm, sometimes a little, but usually Dami stands on his tiptoes and I hold him.” There were a few “aaaaaws” around him, both from the reporters and some curious students who poked their heads out of the crush. A reporter from what he could read as “Gotham News” on his microphone approached him (no more than 20 years old, did they send their youngest employees to ambush him? Good strategy).

"Kent, do you think your relationship could affect Damian Wayne’s future at Wayne Industries?” Oh, that was the spice of life, perfect. He faked his best angry and confused face at the reporter and approached the microphone.

"Are you implying that Bruce Wayne would be against his son?" The reporter went slightly pale and gulped. Jon's lethal gaze was on him, and just as he was about to speak (probably to justify himself), Jon interrupted him. "Let me tell you, it's nonsense because...

Batcave, Wayne Manor, right then and there.

"I raised him too well," Clark lamented, his hand over his face as he watched the live feed from the Batcomputer.

The whole family had been gathered in the cave since the night before, when an article (complete with photos) broke about how Bruce Wayne's youngest son, Damian Wayne, was dating Jonathan Kent, the son of famed Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Lois Lane.

Metropolis and Gotham City exploded—on social media, of course. The only thing anyone had talked about in the last 48 hours was the newly revealed odd couple.

Tim Drake's Apartment, Gotham City, Hours Earlier

Tim was the first to find out, always up on the latest news in Gotham. He'd spent a few weeks at the mansion before fleeing after witnessing a heated argument between Bruce and Damian, which he wanted no part of; he already had enough drama in his life, thank you very much.

He'd returned to his apartment, which he shared with Bernard and Kon, but coincidentally neither of them were there at the time. Anyway, at some point during the night, he fell asleep at his computer (he may not have slept in 39 hours, but that was nothing to him), and as soon as he woke up, the news appeared all over his face.

He fell off his chair.

Turns out, seeing your younger brother (with whom you have a complicated relationship) kissing his best friend (who also happens to be the younger brother of one of your boyfriends) isn't a relaxing news story at two in the morning. It took a cup of coffee and a lot of effort to read the entire story.

He sighed as he finished and sent the link to Dick, because he was the one who handled this kind of thing and Tim didn't want to be the one to tell Bruce—no, that sounded like Dick Grayson's job.

Maybe he sent it to Jason too, just because he was the most likely to be awake at that hour. And Tim was right, so Jason was the next one to find out.

Ooh, I owe Alfred money.

Is that the only thing bothering you?

The little demon is a Wayne; falling in love with his best friend is ingrained in his genes.

...

What do you mean by that?

Jason Todd's Apartment, Gotham City.

Jason had expected it. He'd been involved in raising the little brat when they were in the League of Assassins, and he still was now (all because of Dick's fault and insistence, not because Jason had a heart). Besides, he might have been secretly listening to Robin and Superboy's transmissions, just a little, just to make sure the boys were okay, clearly.

Like the good older/middle brother that he was, he forwarded the message to Dick, texted him countless times, and called him as a last resort (Jason didn't make calls; they were only for emergencies).

"Are you dying?" his older brother asked in a sleepy and somewhat scared voice. Dick was probably still in his apartment in Blüdhaven, so it would take him a little longer to hear the news. He couldn't allow that.

"Unfortunately not," he replied as he went to sit on the couch in the library. At the moment, he and Duke were the only ones in the mansion (besides Alfred and Bruce, of course). Damian had left less than eight hours earlier, furious about some altercation with Bruce (Jason wasn't there when it happened, but he planned to ask when things calmed down), and was probably at the Kent farm with Jon, at Clark's apartment in Gotham with Jon, or anywhere else, but with Jon, of course.

"Jaybird, it's three in the morning..." Dick complained, probably lying in his bed in some ridiculous pajamas and pouting.

"I thought you'd like to see your little brother on the front page, before Bruce. He's still sleeping." He heard the creak of the mattress where Dick was settling in, reading a few random words until he reached the important article. His older brother gasped. God, Jason must have made a video call, his face must be a poem right now. The third to find out was Dick Grayson.

"What!" Sleep had suddenly shaken him off, and he shot out of bed, fumbling through his closet for some clothes and his suit because he was going to Gotham right now. "Since when has this been going on? Why didn't anyone tell me?!"

"I had my suspicions, but I decided not to mention them," he replied calmly. Goldie was probably in overprotective big brother/dad mode. Jonathan should be scared. Personally, Jason would be more worried about Damian than his Kryptonian boyfriend.

"And B doesn't know about this? Jesus, all the sleepovers those two have..."

"Dad patrolled alone last night, and he and Damian fought, so from what I know, he must be sleeping until 10 a.m." He interrupted. The little bat's sex life, or lack thereof, wasn't of much interest to him. At that moment, Duke walked into the library (it was already 4:00, a reasonable time to wake up). Jason nodded at him in greeting. "Hey, Duck, have you seen the new story?"

"Steph just sent it to me," he said, sitting down on the couch across from Jason, book in hand, very relaxed about the new information. "I can't say I didn't expect it." He lightly gave his a light touch and started reading his book, college kids, that's what they are.

"See, Dickface? Totally expected." He turned back to Dick, who was probably having a minor heart attack. "Well, if Steph already knows, Cass and Babs must know too, three less problems." He shrugged.

Actually, the three girls were the first to find out; Barbara always knew (she's Oracle for a reason and is always on the intercoms with the younger ones). Cass found out less than a month ago, after analyzing the two boys a bit. Damian was maybe hard to read, even for her, but Jon was an open book with plenty of bookmarks. So she mentioned it to Stephanie, and together they did a little research (because they weren't Batgirls for nothing), and then told Babs, who had the decency to pretend she didn't know anything.

Kent Family Farm, Smallville.

Around 8 a.m. that same day, Clark was getting ready to make breakfast at his parents' house. Kon was to his left, boredly checking his phone, until he got a text from his boyfriend (Clark wasn't sure which one, Conner has the same notification tone for both) and his heart rate increased noticeably. Clark frowned.

"Is everything okay with Timothy and Bernard?" he asked, turning to Kon, who gulped and smiled.

"They're fine, don't worry." He said with more confidence, hovering over the counter as he typed quickly.

Jonner (superbro)

Where are you?

I'm distracting Kal, but he'll find out soon enough.

Does Lois know about this?

Why didn't I know? I feel so hurt :((

Damian and I are at school, don't worry :))

I told my mom yesterday; she wouldn't have been happy to find out in a newspaper.

Sorry about that :(

I forgive you, I'll tell Kal to check his phone :)

Thanks

Wayne Manor, Gotham City.

The last to know was Bruce (because Alfred always knew everything), when an excited Clark Kent burst into his room at 8:30.

"Clark, it's too early," he said without getting out of his comfortable sheets. Supers tended to blow everything out of proportion, and Bruce could figure it out later. He felt Kent approach his bed and float there, surprisingly quiet.

"Jon and Damian are... together," he said, sounding as if he believed what he was saying. Bruce poked his head out from under the sheets with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, they're always close to each other. They're at school right now," he mumbled and pulled the covers back over himself.

"No, B, they're together as a couple..."

I couldn't remember the last time the cave had been so crowded, probably the last time Dick almost died. It was kind of comforting to be all together without any imminent death.

Sure, if Clark hadn't had to ask Alfred to hide the kryptonite because no bat or bird was going to murder his son. For context, Bruce, Dick, and Clark were in front of the Batcomputer watching the live broadcast of "Gotham News" where Jon was giving a very intimate interview about his relationship with Damian.

Was it even legal for them to interview a minor without their guardians present and in the middle of a schoolyard?

"Jon, here! How long have you been dating Damian Wayne?" Another reporter approached him; this one looked his age, really. Jon was taller than him.

"Oh, well, about four months." He smiled at his with mock shyness, followed by many murmurs.

(...)

"4 months?! This is crazy!" Bruce exclaimed, ruffling his hair in frustration.

Kon, Jason, Duke, and Tim were sitting on the cave floor, playing cards.

"Well, 4 months seems short. They've known each other since they were 10, so..." Kon commented, frowning at his cards. He gave Tim a little shove, who seemed more focused on something other than the game. Tim sighed and tossed a +4 to Jason, who groaned in offense, then turned to Clark.

"Uncle C, did you happen to argue with Jon recently?" He asked, looking at Clark as if he were a puzzle to be solved; the boy really gave him the creeps.

"Us? Yeah, a few days ago." He turned to the young man, faintly listening to Jon talk about how much he liked Damian's eyes and Dick gasping at that. Timothy nodded and muttered something that sounded like "Hmmm."

"Something to share with the class, Timbo?" Jason asked with a leer, tossing a block card to Kon, who insulted him under his breath.

"Well, if Damian fought with Bruce and Jon fought with Clark, maybe they..."

"Oh, Damian did it to piss me off," Bruce said as he ran his hand through his hair for the seventh time. Clark squeezed his shoulder and nodded in agreement.

"What did you do, Bruce?" Dick said, frowning at his father. It wouldn't be the first time Bruce had messed up with one of his sons.

"He was being a little irrational, keeping things from me, so I left him off patrol until further notice." Dick still seemed enraged and was now standing with his arms crossed. Bruce sighed. "I can't work with Damian if he doesn't look out for his own safety, Dick. I set boundaries for all of you, like Robin, that you shouldn't cross, and Damian is no exception."

Dick snorted, but leaned closer, remembering how ridiculous Bruce's rules had seemed to him when he was Damian's age. Follow my orders, stay in my sight, don't put yourself in any unnecessary danger, never fight if I'm not there.

Dick and Tim had been the ones who had respected these rules the most, most of the time, while Jason and Steph had made a point of constantly breaking them. However, Bruce had reasons for having so many rules with his Robins, especially because they weren't just his companions, they were also his children, and Bruce was a very protective father.

Of course, after so many years and more experience, new rules had been added, things like: don't run away, let me know where you're going, call me if you're in trouble, don't hide important things from me, and a dime if I do something to upset you.

“They’re just teenagers behaving like teenagers. It can’t be that bad, right?” Duke said, casually tossing a card as Tim glared at him. Clark and Bruce shared a look and nodded, unconvinced.

“It’s not like they’re inexperienced,” Jason commented, pointing at Kon and Tim, the latter of whom tossed him a blocking card, just because he could.

“The kids are right, B. We’ll figure this out.” Clark patted Bruce on the shoulder as they continued watching the feed.

They were his kids, after all.

Notes:

I'm thinking about writing a sequel to this, but nothing's certain.

Anyway, I needed to get the itch to write about these two out of my system because I love their dynamic (is it out of place to mention they remind me of Drarry?).

There might be a bit of SuperBat if you squint hard, but if that's not your cup of tea, you can just ignore it!

Sad fact: The new rules were put in place after Jason died :(

My knowledge of this universe is very limited and is based on fanfics, three movies, and Wikipedia, so please forgive any mistakes.

Thanks for reading, a comment or kudos would be greatly appreciated :))
