love is a game

Summary:

Seems like Tango's game isn't the only thing distracting him from his studies...

Notes:

Day Eighteen - Favourite Build! I've gone for the combination of Decked Out 2 and Skizz's pyramid.

Today, we're back when Skizz and Tango were still in high school, which is quite possibly the furthest we've gone back in time in this AU? Eh, it depends, since the timeline at parts isn't wholly defined. Anyway, I digress

Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Skizz peers over his buddy’s shoulder, “Psst, Top. What are you playing?”

“I’m not playing anything, I’m making a game,” He responds, peering closer to his laptop. It’s one of those fancy ones with a touchscreen as well as a keyboard. Skizz reaches forwards and swipes at the screen.

“Hey!” Tango cries out. Skizz begins to laugh hysterically.

The teacher clears her throat, and both of them fall silent.

Skizz leans back over and whispers, “Forgot we were in class for a moment there.”

“And, let me guess, you’re going to continue to bother me rather than pay attention?”

“You know it! And besides, you’re hardly doing work anyway, dude. What’s this game all about?” He can see on Tango’s laptop a 3d model of some sort of icy fortress.

“The game’s called ‘Decked Out’. It’s like, you go into the dungeon and have to avoid monsters while looking for an artifact, and there’s cards which activate and are like powerups? I guess?” Tango shrugs, “I’ve never explained it to anybody before.”

Skizz wraps an arm around his buddy’s shoulders, “Man, that’s so cool, you never told me you make games for a hobby! Now I wanna make one!”

“Thanks,” He turns a darker shade of pink, “It’s not as difficult as it looks, you could totally do it.”

A bulb lights up in Skizz’s brain, “Dude, what if we studied for our classes by making games out of our notes!”

“Okay, I’m hearing you out,” Tango laughs, totally not enamoured by Skizz showing enthusiasm for his hobby.

He peers at what the teacher has written on the board, trying to tune back into what she’s explaining, “Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, huh? Easy - we could turn each layer into a challenge to try to achieve the aspects of that layer before moving onto the next.”

Tango has to restrain himself from whistling, “Now that, my friend, is thinking like a gamemaker.”

“You think so?” He says joyfully, “You think I could make a game out of that?”

“Look man, if that’s something you’re serious about, then I’m your guy.”

“You’re always my guy!” Skizz lightly smacks him on the head.

Well, that’s a comment Tango definitely won’t be thinking of non-stop for the next three weeks at least.

It doesn’t help that Skizz follows up on that statement by staring into his soul with those piercing blue eyes, his lips quirked into a goofy smile, wisps of hair falling against his forehead.

Try as he might, Tango just can’t look away…

Notes:

Hope you enjoyed another instalment of Tango having an unrequited crush!
