They were always going to be twins.
Like two sides of the same coin, or a spirit broken into pieces, always longing for its other half, they were always going to find each other again someday.
It didn’t matter if their names were Aqua and Ruby or Gorou and Sarina,
she was always going to be his best friend, and he was always going to protect her.
They could live a hundred lifetimes, have a hundred different names, and be born a hundred miles apart from one another- and it would always be Them against The World.
Aqua rolls over in the crib, the same one his sister is in, and holds her close.
He doesn't know who she was before, but he knows that it doesn't matter. Now, she’s the single most important person in his life. Now, she is his little sister, and he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
Now she is Ruby, and like Sarina before her, she is everything.
