In the wood outskirts of the small moon elf village named “MoonFall”, a seemingly young teen humanoid fox with seven tails made his way past snowy trees and bushes. This was Shukao, not a member of moonfall but a member of something greater. Shukao was looking for the biggest house in the village, the village's most important residents, for he was on a mission. When Shukao made it to the back of the house he saw the village's prophetic champion of the moon, Charis Tanno, or who you would know as Sheet. Sheet was sitting on the balcony writing in his book, a lit candle laminates the night. Shukao made his way up to the balcony by floating, shukao snapped his finger and little stardust appeared for a moment.
“Heya Charis, what’cha writing there?” Shukao said as he leaned against the balcony on the other side of sheet. Sheet jumped for a moment, shukao did just surprise him.
“Shukao, hello. I'm just writing and documenting the knowledge I have learnt today for my parents.” Sheet said as he continued to write. Silence filled the two of them before sheet looked at shukao. “Haven't seen you in a while.”
“Well..” Shukao said before he gave a smile, tapping his finger onto the balcony border. “I've been doing tons of star stuff, y'know. Plus, it's classified so I can't really tell you. Nice try.”
“I suppose I tried.” Sheet smiled. Sheet continued to write some more in the journal.
Shukao stared at sheet and his non-stop writing for a moment before he sighed, looking a lot more worried.
“Y’know Charis, I think you deserve a break from writing… and being stuck in the house.” Said Shukao, he glanced at sheet for his response. “I heard that there will be shooting stars nearby, we could check that out.”
“i’d love to… but you know my parents.. they keep a good watch on me… I'm already at risk of being in trouble if they see me talking to you.” Sheet glances at shukao.
Shukao reaches his hands to sheets, making him gently close the journal “It’ll be fine. I'll make sure that you won't be in trouble, foxes honor.” shukao smiled as he lifts one of his hands off of sheets. Sheet stared at shukao for a moment… a long moment before he sighed, his cheeks being a deeper blue.
“Fine. As long as you can promise me that this will be short.” Sheet sighed, being to mentally tired to even argue back.
“I promise! Okay then, let's get going quickly so we don't miss it either.” shukao said before he grabs onto sheets hands and he floats up, which cause sheet to float up as well. Shukao and Sheet land on the snowy ground softly.
Without a moment of thought, shukao held onto one of sheets hands as he started to run into the forest, sheet forcefully following behind. Both ran through the forest, their feet tapping against the snow floor, both laughing together as the wild life watched them pass by. At some point the two made it to a clearing, with the shooting stars already starting to fall. Shukao looked up at the sky with fondness, he of course was already used to shooting stars. Sheet on the other hand looked at the sky with amazement, he had never seen shooting stars before and this was so new to him.
“We made it to see the rest of the meteor shower! Pretty cool, ay?” shukao said as he looked over to sheet, who was star struck.
“This…. This is amazing.. all of this is so.. new to me. Could you please explain to me why this happens?” Sheet said as he looked over at shukao almost sheepishly.
Shukao looked at sheet and his lovely orange eyes… them shukao smiled, happy to explain “Shooting Stars occurs when Mochuna passes through debris trail of comets or asteroid.”
Shukao looked up at the sky again, watching as the shooting stars were getting less frequent. “It causes a stream of meteoroids to enter the atmosphere at high speed. Friction of the meteors rubbing against air particles vaporizes most of them, creating streaks of light across the sky. Pretty cool right?”
“Amazing. Well, I suppose I actually will learn something new from you.” sheet joked with a grin.
“Heyyyy! I have my cool and amazing facts too!” Shukao said, pretending to be offended dramatically.
“Uh huh… This was nothing I expected. I thank you for showing me this…. And giving me a break.” sheet chuckled a he nudges shukao arm with his elbow.
“soooo… how's…. Life going? Any update on that Virceran guy?” Shukao asked, almost out of nowhere because it WAS out of nowhere. Sheet glances at Shukao for a long moment.
“Well… he is less serious and cold then other guards… probably because he's still a knight in training. I guess I could say he's a friend I have now? Besides you?” sheet said, sounding a little awkward.
“That is good to hear! You need more social interactions with others that isn't just your parents, me, and the church people.” shukao smiled.
“Kao… you just named a lot of folks…” sheet stared at shukao, unamused.
“Hey now, you know what I mean!!” shukao said as he clutches at his non existent pearls. Both laughed before staring at the sky as the shooting stars fizzled out.
“This was fun. Though now I need to start heading back now.” Sheet said as he dust off snow off of the hood he was wearing.
“Oops, almost forgot…. Okay! Let's head back quickly! Last one there is the last!” Shukao said as he began to run off, of course he wouldn't run too far away from sheet so he could actually get home.
“Of course you'll be last if you make it last…” Sheet called out as he ran after shukao.
The two ran back to the back of the house, with shukao making it first. When sheet got there, shukao casually floated himself and sheet up to the balcony. As soon as sheets feet touched the floor of the balcony he heard his mom call out his name, shukao quickly hid underneath the balcony. Sheet's mother opens the door.
“Charis, it is almost midnight! You should be going to bed for we have an important meeting with the church and a member of the eclipse council.” Mrs. Tanno said, her arms crossed as she stared at her now sheepish child.
“Yes mother, I will head to bed immediately.” Sheet nodded his head.
“Goodnight, dear.” Mrs. Tanno smiled before she left the room, the door being aggressively closed.
A moment of silence set upon the balcony for a moment before shukao floated out of hiding. Shukao glared at the now closed door before looking at sheet.
“I am heading to bed now, kao. It was a nice little adventure we went on tonight. Thank you.” Sheet said as he turned to look at shukao with a smile.
“Yeah…. No problem.. have a good sleep.” Shukao slightly frowned.
Sheet nodded as he walked off to his bed. Shukao silently floated into the forest, a bunch of thoughts filled his head. Sheet was an amazing person… sheet was the light in the darkness for his village… yet nothing lasts forever and shukao knows it and he knows it would be his fault.
Shukao walked to the edge of the village, and the edge of the mountain. Shukao sits at the edge and he stares at one of the two moons that circle mochuna and shukao wonders if this was really his path to take. Destiny is a miserable thing.
