Notes:

this is really short but i thought of it at 3am

Work Text:

The world of the sky and the sea are both so far away, yet intrinsically intertwined with one another. They touch one another, and are vastly larger than the bodies of land on Earth. Yet the air held things too high to reach for the water, and things sank too low in the sea for the sky to touch.

On the ocean, a few hundred miles off the coast of Okinawa, there was a boat. This boat was decently sized, a dropdown area with room for a small kitchen, cabinets for non-perishables, a fridge for a few things of fish, leading into a small lounging space, a bathroom, and a nice bedroom. Just big enough for two bodies to curl up next to each other and sleep the day away.

Alas, this is not what the couple was doing. One was swimming, holding his head slightly above water as his tail propelled him in a random direction, further out towards deeper water. The other flew at just about the same rate, facing down towards his lover. The waves splashed up from the rapid tail movement were being evaporated quickly from the heat radiating off the phoenix’s body, but he was able to extinguish his fire momentarily to lean down and kiss his boyfriend as they flew.

Kazuichi Soda couldn’t be more lucky. A gorgeous man actually gave him the time of day! It was certainly odd that he happened to live in the air rather than on the ground like most people, but it meant they could do romantic shit like this more frequently.

His tail was a beautiful mix of pink and green scales, the pink making up most of the appearance. In an asymmetrical striped pattern, the dull green scales wrapped up and around his body, eventually trailing to his lower waist and human torso. There were a few patches of scales elsewhere, especially around the gills at his side and waist, and the small fins on his ears were the same dull green, contrasting his wild pink hair, clinging to his scalp every time he poked his head out of the water.

Shuichi Saihara, on the other hand, believed himself to be luckier. Despite his rather brash nature, and perverted tendencies on occasion, Kazuichi was the smartest and most curious mermaid, no, person the phoenix ever met. Someone who made the damn ability to breathe underwater with vehicles a thing? Fuck, it was so neat.

Kazuichi would say the same thing about Shuichi, of course. He solved so many damn cases by swooping in and picking up criminals from the sky, it was practically an art form. Their first meeting was him being saved from a fishing net, after all.

They had turned back around and made it to the boat. Shuichi made sure the wings on his back weren't on fire, shifting his legs back to a more humanized form as he leaned down to pull Kazuichi up onto the ladder. It was always a bit embarrassing when he shifted, as merfolk didn’t have clothes on unless they had them pre-shift, but based on the deep kiss he got once he was fully out of the water, clearly this was going to be a situation he didn’t need them anyways.
