Work Text:

Truly, a fish this big!

The day was as sunny as any other day on the paradise island.

Wrecker was headed to the harbour in a hurry. The small but trusted dingy his vessel for the day waiting for him prepped and ready to go. It was nothing too fancy, but having refurbished the boat himself with several lures and rods for the job ahead, Wrecker was very fond and proud of the small boat.

And Wrecker really loved fishing. A lot.

Usually his catch of the day enough to feed the whole family and then some. When out there, getting a good haul, Wrecker and Shep then preparing a feast for half of Pabu. Some of the times they did, but mostly it was for the family.

Of course it wasn’t unheard of for Wrecker to tell tall fish-tales of his watery exploits either. Mostly the lot of them true but of course as Wrecker wasn’t a liar. Alas, there certainly was some exaggeration here and there for sure.

Especially when it came to fighting of some scary watery monsters while out there, flying solo across the waves of Pabu.

Those so called monsters, which there were a few, true. But one could hardly call any of them a real monster. Some very large size creatures of the high seas whom simply wanted to be left in peace and quiet and not be woken up by passing by fishermen.

But sometimes, they too, like so many other creatures of the Force got curious of the fishing boats headed out there, only ending up following the set trails in hopes of perhaps getting their fair share of the loot.

Wrecker did share his catch often enough with a beastie he now fondly called Toby.

Someone Wrecker had kind of befriended with during his many trips out there to catch the fish of the day. Wrecker having caught the beastie while struggling to get free from one of the lures and then with some effort and lots of persuasion, Wrecker having gotten the beastie free. Ending up giving him part of his catch as compensation.

From that day on, Toby had been a loyal fishing mate for Wrecker getting his treat whenever they met.

It was a curse and true story Wrecker loved to share often and loudly too despite most of the clones joining in the fish filled feast in the Batch’s home having already heard it plenty of times. A few even questioning the truth behind said tale.

“If ya don’t believe me, then why not join me one day out there! I will introduce you to Toby.” Wrecker offered Vik, one of the newer arrivals on the island having said as much to Wrecker about his monster friend.

“It’s true Vik! I’ve seen Toby out there too.” Gregor laughed, knowing full well whom Wrecker was talking about.

“Yeah, it’s a big fish alright, could swallow ya whole.” Wrecker laughed too, but he was joking of course. As Toby only had a taste for fish and shrimp.

“Well, I dunno.” Vik sounded a tad scared perhaps suddenly.

“It’s fine Vik, Wrecker is just pulling your leg.” Omega assured the other clone, as most of the Bad Batch family already having made their acquaintances with the famous Toby the Monster during their time fishing with Wrecker.

“You sure about it, Kid?”

“I am.” Omega laughed at Vik’s doubts.

“I can take ya out tomorrow if ya want.” Wrecker offered Vik then.

“Sure, if you think it’s safe enough.” Vik still having his doubts though.

“I am.”

“Okay, then it’s a date!”

They all laughed, Wrecker sharing his fishing stories with them all. The tales of Pabu as they were known as. While the ever growing family and friends enjoyed their plentiful meal together. Toby but of course, once again the centre of the eve’s stories.
