A Quiet Morning

Summary:

Baze and Chirrut prepare for the day ahead.

Work Text:

Baze emerged from his quarters to find Chirrut perched on the windowsill of the living room, face angled toward the early morning sunlight. Not sure if the other man had noticed his presence or not, Baze walked softly over and stood by his partner. Minutes passed before he spoke.

“Are you thinking or praying?”

“There is something about today,” Chirrut said softly, ignoring the question. “It feels . . . cold. Or like something is about to blow.”

Baze grunted. “Whatever it is, I’ll be there to protect you. It’s my job to be the worrier, not you.”

Chirrut turned, a small smile on his face. “I know.”

Leaning forward, Baze gently kissed the man’s head. “Now we should get going. I think the people of Jedha are going to need to hear the words of a Guardian today.”

“Just one thing first,” Chirrut said, standing. He leaned forward and kissed him. “Now I’m ready.”
