Chapter Text
Elizabeth ducked under a tree, her body shaking and her face soaked in a cold sweat. If she wasn't so clumsy with her long, ivory hair the hunter wouldn't have spotted her escaping and chased after her. On the bright side she'd just avoided being spotted by the hunter's lantern which would've not only blinded her, but exposed her location. On the other hand, she was covered in swamp water and dirt messing up her dark green dress and hair that touched her the back of her knees. The smell was vile but, not as vomit inducing as the hunter's cabin. The memory of that dinning room with the taxidermied bodies, bodies that possible one had lives and goals made her gag. While she had created a mini burrow to take extra safety precautions, the hunter's muffled grunting grew more distant until it blended in with the faint sounds of the endless forest.
After a good minute of contemplating whether to risk going out, she dug her way out of the hole and looked up at the deep, navy sky. The night sky was the most, and only, beautiful thing in the nowhere. Compared to the grotesque and twisted world she was dragged into, the sky was heavenly especially the moon. The moons pale, glowing face outshone the stars that no longer twinkled from the mass pollution of the pale city. It always gave her a bittersweet feeling, the reminder that no matter where she is her and her family are always looking at the same moon. However, her family either forgot her by now, or are dead. In the nowhere time works differently. It's inconsistent. What could be only hours to her could be centuries to her family in her world. Even if they were alive they definitely forgot her. She wasn't the gifted one out of her family, always her cousins who grew up to be successful while she was left in the dirt. Even her younger cousins were more hardworking and "mature" than her. The only achievement she had to her name was her decent grades and not even those were impressive. But, she didn't think about those petty insecurities anymore, there were more important things now. Besides if she survives this and finds a way back everyone will make her the main event.
Just as she was fantasized about the attention she'd get if she made it back home, she felt the odd feeling of being watched. A silent, but watchful stare. Assuming the worst, Elizabeth threw a rock directly at where she felt the creature was watching from. A muffled yelp could be heard. Did she just hit a poor kid?! Elizabeth covered her mouth with her hand but, moved it away quickly to yell a "Sorry! But you kinda deserved that for stalking me!". Wow how generous of her to apologise but then shift the blame onto them. The unsettling, monster turned out to be a boy with a brown, paper bag on his head. He was perched onto a tree branch like a crow. That's when he began pointing at something and a loud breathing could be heard. Elizabeth squinted her eyes trying to understand what he was saying. Just as she realised something no, someone was behind her. The hunter snatched her up and began to head back to the cabin, Elizabeth screamed and yelled for help at him. Yet the boy did nothing. Frozen in shock, he just stared at her being taken away.
Mono then snapped out of his trance. He just watched some innocent looking girl get kidnapped! He wanted to help her but, this world was survival of the fittest. In the nowhere you always pick yourself if you want to live. But her look of terror, she was as scared as he was. If not, she was even more scared! That's it! He was done being a coward. He had watched many die from his unwillingness to help and take risks. It was time he grew a spine and try this time. Even if he failed he'd at least die a hero instead of a coward. So very fearfully, he made his way and followed the hunter's big-footed trail to save that mysterious girl and find safety. Who knows? Maybe that girl could help him in return to survive!
