I see everything you see
The two of them were sitting there, as per their usual.
On the beach, just around sunset, the darkness falling soon enough. But it did not bother either of them. As they had an advantage to most living on the island.
Crosshair and Batcher together as per their ritual. The hound hardly leaving the former Sniper’s side, especially during this special bonding time of theirs. It all being as regular ad clockwork during each rotation.
Soon, it would be dark and the small jungle like nature just outside the village was great for honing their skills. The place none too large, but good enough for the duo to prowl in.
Crosshair and Batcher using their special eyesight to mock hunt prey, as they weren’t really catching anything, simply following their instincts and skills to keep up with their talents. Their night vision as the others called it.
Crosshair’s DNA having been sliced with a touch of a feline, his ability to see in the darkness one of the benefits of said slicing. And perhaps there were other traits he had inherited as well due to said DNA.
And so it began. The darkness upon them now.
Crosshair and Batcher were on the move. Stealthily as they did, without a sound making their way in the lush under growth. It was uncanny, something not even Hunter had been able to detect.
Their objective. To track down a rare night owl hardly ever seen in daylight.
The holo-imager ready as per instructed by Tech. Crosshair having promised to capture a few snaps for the Genius’ personal collection.
They were close. Crosshair could easily tell. His eyes honed into the tree branches above them while Batcher sniffed the path they were on, following the scent of the animals there. But soon Batcher’s eyes caught the bird as well.
It was right there. Batcher and Crosshair both saw it. Clear as day, the greyer than grey owl sitting on the topmost tree branch. Hiding in plain sight, or well, not from these two it did not.
Crosshair placed his hand on top of Batcher. The sign he had taught the Hound for stopping all movement when they had located their prey.
Observing, waiting for a spell in total silence like only the two of them could. Crosshair carefully picked out the holo-cam before aiming it at the creature of the night.
Crosshair didn’t want to disturb the bird though, and so using longer exposure with the special lens was a must. Something of Tech’s handiwork it was, the lens.
Aiming the holo-cam, adjusting the focal point, Crosshair snapped several images of the rare bird.
The rare owl totally unaware of what had just expired, thankfully.
Crosshair motioned for Batcher, the two heading back the same way they had gotten into the jungle. With yet another successful op behind them. Feeling good about themselves. Crosshair rewarding Batcher with a treat while having one himself.
It was their special time after all, the ex-Sniper and the Lurca Hound, bonding on Pabu.
