Chapter Text
A call interrupted his alone time.
He put his phone on silent, preparing to spend the rest of his night in heavenly ignorance . Overwhelmed with the daily barrage of missions, and curses. Bouncing around with Yuji, roping in further by Nobara who impelled megumi to join them, pretending to be drag alone with a fictitious scowl.
The kids were good to be around, seeing young, and hopeful faces-adding in maki, Toge, yuuta, and panda, his life was painted with different strokes. They are necessity to keeping his wits about himself, forcing him to stay grounded and thinking of what is to come.
The high energy bunch added, and quickly depleted his energy.
Nanami knew his diminutive crash was to come to fruition: away time from home, bubbly kids, and the final nail: Satoru Gojo. The walking clamorous, dynamic , and relentless man- expunge through the little capacity he had left. Satoru kept up the conversations about his whims, warping him to different locals, eating lunch- sometimes buying for the both of them. Any little thing Gojo wanted to do, he grabs nanami to not be alone.
The one positive with satoru is walking home, his blindfold tucked away able to see the moon and stars . All conversations had been chewed over, hoping from location to location. Kento and Satoru are allowed to be free of words to express their day, giving silence the free will to speak their thoughts openly .
Thursday he had a day to himself, mimicking a day off. He was apprise by Yuji- that him, Nobara, and Gojo were sent on a mission. Yuji was only able to send a selfie of all of them, the two kids posting with Gojo staring out the window. It got a smile out of him, saving it to his phone. Another text came: Gojo now holding the phone, with the kids reaching towards him- he reluctantly saved the photo also.
3 hours to get there, and who knows how long it will be to complete their mission. Even if all goes well, it’s six hours of the day they will be gone.
Yuji sent a text, and so too Satoru
Wish us luck!! 😘😝
Good luck Yuji , and Nobara
A simply luck good , shoving his phone in to the pocket. It was an empty day at the school, an ominousness weighed down his spirit. Rarely seeing students, only briefly seeing Toge, he wished him a good morning, and getting it reflected back.
Nanami body is use to walking around this school, he knew this spot better than the front of his hand. This location remaining a home then any apartment he had- then he remember of his own family home. A foreignness coated his sight, throwing his sense of direction.
Nanami quickly ran through his day, getting two missions that covered his time- removing himself from the campus, and force to relocate. His body stopped warring against himself, departing from the suffocation that triggered his fight or flight- slowing drowning him alive. Marking the first time he wanted to be away, thanking whoever’s that he needed hours away from here.
The curse was a bitch to cleanse, completing no doubt, but it was more strenuous then he like to admit. At one point he believed he will tap into overtime, it nearly pushed him over the edge- home before the curse was. The monster disintegrated just under 3 minutes, warding the triggering of overtime.
Ready to go home, but he still had to return his report. He was able to work something out with ijichi, they had dinner together- or ijichi ate, nanami filled out the paperwork, having few words crossed between them. Another body was nice to have, a person who could commiserate with was a luxury he did taken for granted.
He gave the paperwork to ijichi, taking it to Yaga for him- nanami will take the responsibility for his actions, but he must do so tomorrow with more energy. Nanami checked his phone: no text, calls, or direct messages.
Once they come back, nanami will treat them, being more opened to Gojo antics. He mindlessly twirled his keys, taking in the natural sounds, and scenery, its quiet easy to ignore your surroundings as a civilians, but now as a sorcerer- he entered, and leave sleep walk. Only able to get out the daze by being snapped out, or grounding himself in nature.
Surrounded by the concrete jungle, or getting lost into a forest- every smell, texture, or change in environment swallowed him in reality. Touching his dry wall, dirt, metal, leaves, or plastic cups- he appreciate the moment of life, and the doses of humanity he comes in contact with. And, having real people- students, fellow sorcerer, is the easiest way to stay connected to who he is and what he is doing.
Nanami kicked his shoes at the front door, loosing the tie, unbuttoning his blue shirt, throwing his jacket on the couch. He grabbed the newly bought whiskey, that was planned for a particular stressful week, but got canceled by sleep.
He got his specialized cup only meant for whiskey, not adding ice or making a drink- nanami needed it straight, burning his throat, helping to truly take the lid off. Nanami took a sip, letting the warm fiery liquid flow down. He could cough how strong it was, but he made himself sit motionless- honing in this sensation, made to be in the moment.
Taking another sip, his body sinked into the couch, a loosening effect took hold. Warm, and open- it spreading to his ass, he could laugh how close it made him to run to the bathroom. Yet, he was glued to his seat, alcohol had the added benefit of tiring him out.
He brought himself to the bed, removing his clothes, turning his fan on. Nanami completed the drink, hopping into the bed, getting a warm hug by the freezing covers. Closing his eyes, and burring his head into the pillow- sleep came naturally, quickly than any other night. A light rest, just barely touching REM, however deep enough for his body to consider it sleep.
Hours only passed in minutes, softly snoring- his phone rung, his body was painfully jerked awake, he had to calm himself down before he could address his phone. Nanami takes one look at the clock, his sleepy logic decided to ignore it. The whiskey was out his system, most side effects gone, but the tiredness was unbearable to ignore. Sober he could snap out of it, but with liquor-Nanami listen to the voice.
He closed his eyes, Nanami succumbed to the quietness, being lulled by the delusion of being in an unknown state, and time. Nanami opened his eyes once more, now being greeted with back to back calls.
His deliriousness believe it was Yuji, telling him of their mission, getting a rundown before he go to bed- to bombarded him: with Nobara of their mission, giving the play by play. It was actually customary of their relationship, they updated each other- telling each other when they arrived, and left.
Nanami patted his hand on the bedside table, grabbing his phone that laid there. The screen turned on, squinting at the brightness , once his eyes adjusted he turned the loudness down. There he could really see what’s going on, prepared to speak to the boy for over an hour, having the phrase “but last thing before I go” repeated.
What he got was a message from Yaga, his being the latest, presented at the top.
Nanami, I need you to report to jujutsu tech, an accident had occurred
His got up in his a bewildered state, stuck between sleep and awake. He threw on his previous clothes, having a cleaner set in the closet. But, he could only put on the things on in front of him, being brought back to the land of the living- a roam of cologne, and whiskey clung to his suit.
He placed his glasses back on, pushing his hair back roughly. Nanami had to ignore the shake in his body, causing a gitter as he tried to dress himself. A sigh had to leave his body, calming the wash of nervousness
Having the ability to see curses, some joked that they have a sixth sense. A sensation that predicted destruction, an ability allowed the sorcerer to be prepared to face what ever demon spouted from hell. Nanami thought it was a deeply paranoid cynicism, helping them to prepare for the worse, but sometimes unable to see a hope.
It was cope, a belief that help re shape, or accept the unabashed horror of humanity. He stepped back out into the world, it presented a sense of calmness, a veneer that could give him peace. Tonight was a little different, he couldn’t fight or reason with this panic.
He was called to the school before at night, not all that often, but enough that one knew it wasn’t the end. Nanami did feel as though it was a sort of halt, a moment that will force them all a stop to see what happened, and why did we let it occurred.
This was the first moment he wished to be warped, made to walk instead of being forced to come face to face immediately. However, he will come to like that he walked there- frozen in time, not sure what he will tackled.
