Work Text:
I was sitting in the cafeteria in the stadium. Abby sat besides me, absentmindedly tracing her fingers over my lower back as we talked to our friends.
“So, you’re going out again?” I asked. “With all them infected out there right now?” The last couple of weeks we had noticed an increase in infected around the stadium and every time Abby went out, I was terrified she, or our friends, wouldn't come back alive.
“We’ll be careful.” Abby reassured me.
“Yeah, we’ll watch each other’s back out there.” Manny agreed. I sighed as I looked between them. I worked as a chef in the cafeteria and there was never a reason for me to go outside of the stadium, but knowing that my friends and girlfriend were out there just never sat right with me.
“Y/N?” I heard my name being called, but I didn’t recognize the voice. This wasn’t that strange. Everyday I served food to our community. Seeing hundreds of faces multiple times a day, it was common for them to know my name, but not the other way around. It wasn’t like I didn’t try, of course I did, but with so many people it became a hard task.
I searched around the room for the voice, finally landing on a familiar face.
“Jenna?” I stood up from my seat at the table and walked over to her without much thought. “You’re okay?” She smiled a watery smile at me, tears brimming at the edges of her eyes.
“Y/N? I thought you were dead.” I crossed the last couple of feet with a couple quick strides, engulfing her in a tight hug. “You were supposed to be dead.” She said wobbly.
Someone cleared their throat behind us and I stepped back from our hug and turned to face the person.
“Don’t get me wrong, I like a good reunion, but uh…Who’s this?” Abby asked, sounding unsure of herself.
“This is Jenna. We were together in the community before we got overrun, before I joined the WLF.”
“Together?” Abby wondered.
“Yeah, the town wasn’t safe, we didn’t have any protection from the infected. We got separated once we got overrun. God, I thought I lost you.” I said the last part only to Jenna. “When did you get here?”
“Couple days ago.”
“I can’t believe it.” I pulled her into a hug once more.
We spent the next few days catching up with each other. I might have stood up my friends for her once or twice, but they had to understand. I hadn’t seen Jenna in so long. So you can guess I was kinda confused when I had the following conversation with Manny. I knocked on his and Abby’s room door and waited for either one to open up.
“Y/N? Abby isn’t here right now.” He told me as he walked back into his room. I trailed after him, smiling at the messed up bed I had gotten so accustomed to.
“Where is she?”
“Somewhere away from you?” I knitted my brows together.
“Uhm, okay? Why?” I was so confused.
“She figured you want to spend time with what's-her-name?”
“What am I missing here?” Manny groaned.
“You said you were together with Jenna. You know, back before you came here.”
“I was.”
“Don’t you think that would be upsetting to hear for your current girlfriend.” Once again I knitted my brows.
“Manny, I have no idea what you mean?”
“You were together with Jenna.”
“Yes and?”
“Abby’s gonna be scared you want to go back to her.”
“Back to her? Oh my go-... You think I was with Jenna?”
“That’s what you told us.”
“No, I mean yes, but not romantically.”
Manny looked at me stunned. “You mean to tell me she wasn’t your girlfriend?”
“No! We were just friends.”
“Might wanna explain that one to Abby. She’s freaking out.”
“Oh god. Where can I find her?”
“Pretty sure she’s playing with Alice.”
“Thank you, Manny.” I hurried out of the room and to the kennels.
“Abby.” I breathed heavily as I had stormed my way over to her. “We need to talk.”
“If you wanna tell me you’re getting back together with Jenna, I don’t want to hear it.” She said grumpy. I rolled my eyes at her.
“Seriously?” She shrugged her shoulders at me. “I am and never was romantically involved with Jenna. She’s my friend, that’s all.”
“You told us all that you used to be together.” She grumbled.
“As friends. We looked out for each other. Survived together. But nothing more. She’s as straight as they come. And she is not my type.”
“What is your type?” She asked me. I looked at her through my eyelashes, a smile appearing on my lips.
“You know, the tough brooding type. The ones that put their friends and family first. Who knows exactly which of my buttons to press to get a certain reaction.” I stepped closer to her, my mouth right next to her ear. “The ones that know my body like the back of their hand.” Her hands found my waist as she pulled me close to her.
“You think I’m tough?” She asked. I pulled back to look her in the eyes.
“Have you looked at yourself lately? And if we’re talking emotionally, you’ve been through so much and yet you keep going. I’d say that makes you pretty fucking tough.” A smirk plays on her lips.
“So you’re not with Jenna?” She asked once more.
“It’s not even a thought in my mind.”
She bowed her head and captured my lips with her own. As our tongues met she pushed me up against the fence, her hands roaming over my body. I pull her face closer to mine and her right hand ends up on my butt, groping me in full view of everyone around us. I moaned as her tongue darted into my mouth. I hear someone clear their throat and I pull back from our kiss, my hands fisted in Abby’s shirt.
“Maybe you can get a room and spare us all the PDA.” One of the workers said. Abby rolled her head back, groaning.
“We can do that.” I said, grabbing Abby’s hand and pulling her along with me, not in the mood to start a fight. I would find us a private space where we can make up and make out.
