FOTP #1: The Man in the Mist

Summary:

"You really need to work on telling the truth every once in a while. Maybe then it'll be easier to trust you."

Mysterious, unidentified sightings bring the ninja to the kingdom of Shillvaron, one of the four kingdoms in Ninjago. Their mission? Protect the Ruby Princess and her prized possession: the Fire Crystal.

Everything is going well until Lloyd discovers a link from their new enemy to his old enemy: the Overlord. But no one seems to take his suspicions seriously. Cole couldn't care less about what his former rival has to say and Jay has his own problem to worry about. Garmadon was recently thrown back into his teenage years--and Kai has taken a liking to the princess. Lloyd's refusal to tell the whole truth only pushes them further away and he delves into the mystery alone.

But the green ninja isn't as strong as he used to be--physically and mentally--so when his Baddie marking starts acting up again for an unknown reason, fear enters in and it takes everything he has not to fall apart in front of the friends he doesn't fully trust.

Notes:

This series is mainly based on a loose mixture of the 4th and 8th seasons of Ninjago. It is set about three years after Darkness from Within, which must be read first to understand many things going on in this series.

A little background information: This series dives deeper into lore and backstory, although most of Ninjago's canon lore has been changed for this fanfiction's purposes. What you think you know may not be true, but then again, maybe it is? Of course, due to spoilers, I cannot go into further explanation, although it is necessary to know that the Serpentine Wars in canon Ninjago has been replaced with the Elemental War in Flames of the Past. You will find out the rest over the course of the series, so hang in there!

Final note: The ninja have their elemental powers back (not sure why I decided to take them out in the first series?), and Nya is a full ninja by now.

Some characters and events from other seasons may appear.

I HAVE DECIDED IT'S TIME! The first chapter will be posted Monday! Here's the excerpt for the first book of DFW's sequel series, the Man in the Mist!

 

Garmadon stared at him as he halted in front of him, shock, confusion, and anger hitting him all at once. "What do you want with Laurie?" he demanded, suspicion growing inside of him.

Clouse swept past him, snickering a little. "Oh, I think you know the answer to that question," he cooed.

Garmadon swallowed hard. He did know. "Leave her out of this, Clouse," he told him, forcing his voice steady. "She's just a kid."

"Right." Clouse opened the door, pausing in the doorframe and glancing back at Garmadon. "And I'm just the royal advisor."
