Work Text:

“You ready to go home Luce?” He asks as he walks back into the hospital room after bringing a round of their things and some flowers to the car already.

“I think so. We got this, right?” He can sense some hesitancy in her voice so he makes his way over to her, sitting down on the side of the bed next to her.

“Love, what’s wrong? You know we got this.” She grabs his hand, giving it a tight squeeze not letting go. She’s been trying to hold back her tears and fears all morning but now that it’s time to go home, she’s scared. Scared she’s going to screwed it up. Scared she’s going to hurt her baby.

“I’m scared we’re going to fail her. The last two days have been so magical with her here but we’ve always had the nurses to fall back on. What happens when it’s just us?”

Taking a deep breath to ground himself before he can fully support her, “Luce, we’re new parents, we’re going to mess up. And that’s okay. What matters is we give our little girl all the love we can. The rest will be okay.”

“How do you always know what to say?” She sniffles while wiping a fallen tear on her cheek.

“I don’t. But I know us and I know we got this. Together.” He leans in to give her a chaste kiss, “Okay, you ready to get out of here and bring our sweet girl home?”

“Yes,” a soft smile appears on her face. “Let’s go.”

Their baby, Hazel Mei Bradford was perfect. She had dirty blonde hair just like her dad and brown eyes after her mom. Lucy was in labor for over 30 hours and ultimately had to have a c-section as it was no longer safe for her and baby. He’s never been more proud and more in love with her.

After getting Lucy and Hazel situated in the backseat of his truck, he carefully started the drive home. “My girls doing okay back there?” He asks as he glances back at them through the rear view mirror. His girls, he’s pretty sure he’ll never get tired of saying that.

“We’re good. Hazel’s still fast asleep.” She cooed back, eyes completely drawn to their precious baby girl. The baby girl they had fought so hard for.

They started to try having kids two years ago. Unfortunately Lucy went through two miscarriages and it definitely wrecked her for a little bit. Then, they got pregnant with Hazel when they least expected it.

Lucy is so enthralled in just watching her sleep, she totally misses Tim parking the truck and opening her door. “We’re home, Luce. Let me help you get out and then I’ll grab her.” His voice is soft, careful to not startle either of them.

She carefully steps out of the truck with one hand on his shoulder while his is around her waist. She’s still in quite a bit of pain and too much movement hurts.

“Stay right there, let me go get our girl.” He gives her a quick kiss before rounding the truck and opening the door carefully taking the car seat out. Walking back over to Lucy, he wraps one arm around her to help her walk.

“You want to rest on the couch or in bed?” He asks as they step inside.

“Bed,” she mumbles softly. “I’m hoping after I feed her I can sleep some.”

“Let’s get you into some comfy clothes and all set in bed and then you can feed her while I feed you. Then you can sleep for as long as you want,” he says as he places a kiss on her forehead.

They slowly make their way to the bedroom, helping Lucy sit on the side of the bed while he goes into his dresser drawers and grabs out a pair of sweats and one of his shirts for her to put on. Her own clothes are too tight, plus she loves any excuse to wear his anyways.

He’s so gentle as he pulls down the pair of pants she had on, quickly replacing them with another softer pair. Then comes the shirt which causes a little bit more pain for her. She lets him do all the work, just barely able to keep herself upright.

Watching as he walks back to the dresser to get her favorite pair of fuzzy socks, she starts to tear up. “What did I do to deserve you?” His eyes meet hers and he’s met with tear’s falling down her cheeks. He quickly moves to sit down next to her on the bed, taking her hands in his own.

“What do you mean baby? You gave me a child, a child I have waited so long for. You took care of her for nine months while she was in you, now it’s my turn to take care of you so that we both can take care of her.”

Sniffling, “I guess. I just don’t want you to burn yourself out taking care of me.”

“Never, love. Never.” He reassures as he kisses her tear stained cheeks. “Now c’mon, let’s get you comfy in bed and then you can feed Hazy girl. What do you want for yourself to eat?”

“I don’t know,” she huffs out. He can tell she’s overwhelmed with everything so he suggests something he knows she’ll love and hasn’t been able to eat, except once in the hospital when Angela brought it.

“How about sushi? I can order it and have it delivered soon. Not too messy to eat in bed.”

She just nods her head as she gets Hazel ready to eat. She’s been latching on really well and for that, Lucy is really grateful.

After she’s done feeding and burping, Tim takes her and puts her in the bassinet next to their bed after she falls right to sleep.

“I can’t believe she’s really ours,” Lucy sleepily smiles as she rests her head on his arm.

“Me either. Yeah, it might be a little overwhelming but gosh, how lucky are we that we get to love her for the rest of our lives?”

“We’re the two luckiest girls in the world,” she grins up at him. “You’re the most incredible man and already the best daddy.”

They’ve shared many kisses since their girl had been brought into this world, but this one was the most passionate. “I love you so much.” She whispers against his lips as the need for air has them pull apart.

“I love you too. Always,” He gives her another kiss before hearing a soft knock on the door. He checks his phone seeing it was their lunch.

“I’ll be right back,” he gets out of the bed, careful not to jostle her too much.

They spend the rest of the day in bed just enjoying being a family of three. Well, technically four. Kojo was staying with Genny for another day or so, but both Tim and Lucy knew he would be the best big brother.
